You must watch this video!!!!! This was a very well done ‘how to’ video. We put this hoop together this weekend and this video was on the whole way through. Lots of great tips in addition to directions. Regarding the insert of the initial tube, the videos tip saved hours of frustration. I can’t say thank you enough. Thank you!
I agree excellent video Dad! 👍🏽👍🏽 Sent it to my son in law to help. Thank you for all the detailed explanations. I watched your whole video myself, I seriously think I could’ve assembled it myself lol
A friend bought and assembled an NXT 54 portable goal. However, something went wrong because the backboard faced down 45 degrees no matter the height adjustment. I offered to take a look. Unfortunately, the assembly instructions were trashed so I turned to YT and your remarkable step-by-step assembly process. When comparing your assembled goal to this one, it became apparent that part 51, the highest section of the post, had been twisted 180 the degrees and resulting in the downward angle. After a couple hours of careful disassembly and frequent check-ins on your video, part 51 was twisted another 180 degrees, bolts and nuts were reconnected and the goal is ready for action. You saved the day. Thank you so much for this post!
Oh, that’s excellent! I really enjoy seeing stuff like this. Well, I mean, it stinks your fries ran into this issue, but I’m glad the video helped you guys! So good to hear.
Good deal. Hope the video helps. I did use a funnel. Just make sure it has a pretty wide stem so the sand doesn’t get stuck in there. Worst case, you can gently pour in from a relatively small hole in the bag. Good luck!
I've got my hoop installed! Thanks again for uploading this. I've got a question to crowd source here... has anybody gone through the trouble of creating a "base rebounder" for this hoop like some of the slightly more expensive Spalding hoops have? I'm finding that shooting free throws especially is very frustrating, as the ball careens off the stabilizing arms in every conceivable direction after a made shot. I'm looking into this and will post back here if I find something that works. Thanks!
Yeh, if there’s an inconvenience with this hoop, that’s it. I was thinking of trying of those metal “ball returns” that hang off the rim, but haven’t tried yet. Be great to hear if anything works for anyone.
Incredibly helpful video thank you so much. I've only had one issue with the assembly and it has to do with the locking mechanism. Did anyone else have trouble with the actuator bar not catching in the lock mechanism? The lock mechanism is not working for us and the bar is just sliding through unfortunately. It just won't lock in place :(
Thank you for this video! Very helpful and easy to follow. One question about Step 24, which is when you add the top pole by fastening 3 screws. The pole fits snugly in place, but when I try to tighten the screws into the hexagonal holes, the connection between the two poles is no longer flush. There's a slight gap at the seam of the connection, and it only happens when I try to keep the screw top inside the hexagonal hole. Curious why this might be happening. In the video, I can see that the top pole is perfectly flush with the bottom pole (25:45)
Sorry for the delayed response. Only thing I can think of is double checking if you followed the directions on the order of the screws in “detail a” and “detail b” in the instructions? And then make sure the screws are in those hexagonal holes as well.
I’d probably keep the springs in. If you aren’t going to move the height, shouldn’t hear them anyway? Interesting though. I’ve not had an issue with any sound from the springs.
Thanks for the video. It’s exact what I’m looking for as I prep to put together this hoop for my son. I’m not sure if you recall from your experience but what steps would say say absolutely require another adult?
Hey thanks! Honestly, I can’t recall since it’s been a couple years. I think the extension certainty made it easier. Worst case, you just go buy an extension at a hardware store for a few bucks.
The ballast cant seem to connect to the back 2 holes. I feel like the ballast was cast wrong. It seems impossible to do. Can't do step 13. Going to pack everything up and send it back.
I’ve not tried since we keep it at 10 feet and none of us can dunk on that. I’d say you most likely don’t want to put a ton of force on it. Light dunking is probably better.
Huh. That’s weird. There’s another thread in the comments of this video where someone had the opposite problem - the hoop was pointing down. They had to rotate the top of the pole 180 degrees. Perhaps you are having the same issue?
Thank you so much for this! How long would you estimate an idiot like myself (mostly by myself) to put together? I have put two Spaulding hoops up -- one original, one replacement backboard)--and the first took about 5 hours, the replacement took me about 2-3h. It was not easy and a giant pain in the you-know-what. Is it your impression this is somewhat less onerous? The instructions seem much clearer and easy to follow. Also, over the past year or so due to very bad weather (we have hurricanes) I have had to lay our hoop down a couple of times per year, which has the potential to damage the rim. Does this seem that it would be amenable to lying it down without damaging the rim? Thanks again.
Hey there. Thanks for the kind words. Yeh, this wasn’t bad to put together. The directions say 90 minutes, but I’d plan on three hours realistically. The good thing is the directions are really clear and all the pieces are marked, so you know exactly what you are doing in each step. I think if you are gentle with the hoop, you can lay it down, but you might want to ask the manufacturer. I have almost four bags of sand in mine and it’s held up to 60-65 mph winds so far. If you can, I’d suggest filling it instead of laying it down every time the weather gets bad. Makes it much more stable to play on too.
Hey there. Couple things. Are you using the narrower, silver rod from that package that has three tubes inside? Also, make sure you are using the right washer as noted in the directions. And you do have to wiggle a bit when you put the rod through the wheels…when you get to that part. Hope this helps!
Hey, how easy would it be to move this around? For example from the backyard to the driveway and vice versa. Can I also put sand bags on top instead of filling the inside with sand?
Hey there. It’s really easy to move around when there’s no water or sand in the base. Once you start to fill the base with water or sand, it gets progressively heavier to move, but not impossible. Probably depends to what extent you fill it. But remember, you want it weighted down so 1) it doesn’t blow over and 2) it doesn’t vibrate a ton when the ball hits the backboard or rim. You could certainly put sand bags on top. That would weigh it down too. And it would be easier to move around if you just remove the bags. The manufacturer doesn’t recommend, though.
There’s no drain on the bottom. Only way to remove water is to tip the hoop backwards. That forces the water to come out. I think removing sand would be harder. Same principle would apply though. I think if you really think you’ll be moving the hoop around a lot, you might just put sand bags on top or consider a hoop with a drain on the bottom. Might want to check with the manufacturer, though. Perhaps they have other ideas or options.
@@daddoesvideos Put a hose down the hole, go slightly downhill with the other end, suck the hose until you taste dirty water. Gravity will do the rest. Warning: does not work with sand.
Hey there. I’m not sure exactly, but I would guess the setup is quite similar, I’d not the same, with the 50. I believe the only difference is the backboard size, but I could be wrong.
There’s a very slight vibration. But for a portable hoop, you barely notice it. We have 150-200 lbs of sand in it too, though. Haven’t dunked on it, so can’t attest to that. My hunch is there would be a bit more shake after that!
I’m having the same problem! Did you ever resolve the issue with the hoop and backboard slanting down? The pole also won’t extend all the way for me. @drakebemke @daddoesvideos
Some others in the comments have experienced this. Seems like the pole might need to be rotated 180 degrees, depending on your situation. Maybe call customer service, too, for some help?
@@daddoesvideos Thanks for the video. It was very helpful. Can you tell me how many lb each sand bag was? I see 50lb in HD and wondering if I need one or 3. TIA
Hah. No, it took a lot longer. I mean, I went a lot slower because I was recording the video. I would guess you should be able to get the whole thing set up in about 3 hours or so. Maybe a little more.
One of them is bigger so ig I’ll save the other one in case this one breaks and also when I try to raise my hoop higher or lower it’s just doesn’t stay do you know why that does that
Huh. Not sure. Might want to review steps 19 and 20 in my video. Those start at 20:20. And then maybe take a look at steps 36 and 37. Those start at around 35:00. Something with that locking mechanism isn’t working right though.

Sure. When assembled, it’s about 61 inches long, 32 inches wide, and about 16 inches high.
