Wow! In 1969 I was 10, and on a class field trip at a AJ Bayless general store in Phoenix, AZ. I bought a pack on Basketball cards that had a Lew Alcinder RC just like that one. I sold it to a Card Shop in late 90's, or early 2000"s for like $75.

Or anything else, I have watched so many vintage breaks where it’s obvious the packs were resealed and put in a box or the cards were so damaged from mold and mildew and placed in a clean box.

Wish it was that easy. Not everything sells as fast. If you want/need money now… sell as bulk. Otherwise, sit and wait. And in todays market, not as many people buying card board pictures of men. Haha

55k is a steal . 1 box goes 11-16k for 1 box he has boxes and tons of old cards worth thousands just for 1. I would of sold myself 1 at a time easily made 150k or more I could u not? 1 card was 7000 he has thousands of cards and those boxes not open easily 40-50 k just for wax . If I’m wrong I’m wrong but way talking I believe u could sell and sell or go to conventions sell piece by piece so easy

The LBJ, Luka, Kareem, Mahomes and Bird/Magic Box alone worth 35k+. Add in all the other wax, slabs, raws & it looks like you got a steal.
They did. They should’ve threw in another 25k just for appreciation once they realized they have gotten hold to a steal but everyone is not that generous
We met Dan at his price. And not sure if you are a reseller or have an eBay store, but cards are not exactly jumping off the shelves. We’re still trying to sell cards form episode 1. So we’re pretty confident when we put a price out… there knowing the market is declining and the number of buyers is half what it was during Covid. If you threw another 25k, you’d be kicking yourself. Gotta be smarter than that.

Especially when he could have spent that money on a nicer house. He didn’t get all of that from that one collection and you know he bought a ton before the pandemic but still overpaid, especially on those Lukas that have come down in value so much. He’s selling because he has buyers remorse and wants to push it all out of his memory about because looking at it all is a daily reminder about all of the money he lost buying all of that.

not understanding this, that mahomes card sold last month for $17,500, The lebron refractor is 7k, the 2 Luka contenders are around 7k+. Thats over 31k and doesnt even include the PSA 10 Favre and Mahomes. Help me out here

I love this guys collection...Among collectors there should be a app or service where you can sign up and if you pass away and have a decent collection...you can pay or sign up to make sure your collection is not sold for $10 as he was sorta joking but not....Someone reputable with enough knowledge where they can oversea collection sales where at least the beneficieries are getting face value
Another great episode. I could really feel Dan’s pain selling his collection. But he’s right if his kids aren’t interested you have to sell it and get out at some point. Kudos to Dan for allowing some other people to come along and really enjoy this amazing hobby.

It's what happened to my dad's collection. The grandkids don't care about sports, and mom would sell thousands for pennies.
In my opinion, this hobby doesn't allow you to fall in love with anything beyond a personal collection... Now, if you're in the card business, absolutely fall in love with profit margins...

As always, I appreciate you breaking down the price of what you think it's worth (based on completed sold prices, and with the market in mind), the margin's you're comfortable with, and what you think you can sell for. This transparency is informative for the viewer, and goes some way in building trust from the seller (and, therefore, expanding your network). Top stuff!
I think you were very fair. Sure, the seller would've been able to get thousands more for his collection... if he was willing to spend the time to find the right buyer/s, and then mess around with potential returns and other headaches. There's also a chance that prices slump in the short-term (esp. with the market not looking great at the moment). This way, he elimates the risk, gets the cash, has zero stress, and can spend that time with his family doing the things they love. Win-win for both parties!
I hope you'll do a recap of what eventually sold in due course, and (if willing to share) how much profit.

that was a steal for 53. There were some really nice cards. But in the long haul his daughter probably would have ended up throwing them in a dumpster. I am sad for him though it must of hurt his heart getting rid of the collection it took him a lifetime to build.

Great collection. The best long term investment is the vintage sealed wax. People are always going to rip so supply goes down and prices go up.

Fun show! I remember finding my last boxes of the Bird Johnson wax. 1986 at a card shop in Omaha, NE. Bought their last 3 boxes and opened them. Put together a couple master sets. Eventually sold them.

Oh I'm respectful of people but i caught some b.s. in the restated value. 16k then Ty said 14k. Plus I agree with one of yours previous comments on this post That he would have made so much more had he broke it down and you're so correct = The math on this deal did not add up at all. I sold my big collection and semiretired but did it the right way. Took my stuff out a lil at a time over a yr and didn't have somebody come in and buy it all like this deal was done. The dealer won and the seller didn't like you'd think. You're thinking "Oh man.. he got $53K". Well he could've gotten alot more. Just based on what I sold almost all my stuff for and then seeing his.. I had 93 SP wax boxes Jeter rc I kept for 12 yrs or so and sold for $450 ea. Key rc's like Montana, Gretzky (10), Jordan, Rice, Brady, Lebron, and so much more. Vintage Clemente, Mantles, Aaron, Mays, Namath, etc. Autos like Mantle, Ali, gretzky, Jordan, and so much more. He had Mahomes autos rc's graded. Im just saying I can look at a deal and give U an honest PR. I agree with your opinion. This was quoted far less. I Had at least 3 closets full of cards. 2 were walk in. His stuffs graded and mine wasn't back then. Beckett or not... It's still a reputable co. I sold mine before they dropped & I kept some more but U look at a handful of those key graded cards and they sell for big money. Plus with the 81 82 BBCE wax boxes being 16K or 20K I know without a doubt that it's worth 80k just by itself. That guy had way more in value than that. I guarantee U more than $250k if U added it all up. Don't believe me than I implore you to sit down with a pen and paper, watch the video, pause it as U write down all these cards and grades and I bet U it's a hell of alot more than 80K worth. Still not enticed? I dare ya.. I double dare ya too. You'll see!!

I’m not jealous of him, you know he spent a ton of money buying all of those cards to have an impressive collection which anyone can bankrupt themselves doing. Why do you think he sold it all at once and he even admitted he couldn’t stop collecting. It’s an addiction that some collectors get and they can’t stop putting themselves in the poor house. Selling it all at once gets rid of the reminders of how much he spent and now lost for a collection that he overspent on throughout the years and now took a huge loss. It’s not like the other video where the guy bought hobby and retail boxes of 2017 Prizm for retail prices and then turned around and made a huge profit. If he had owned a retail store and had all of the 1980’s boxes leftover from excess stock that he paid $10 a box for back in the day then it would have made sense. But no, he bought all of that stuff already BBCE wrapped and the modern cards already graded. Like Ty asked him about the Mahomes if he just picked it up off the ground, nope he bought it at a show a shop and wouldn’t disclose how much he paid for it. Then Ty and his group do like all of us smart collectors do and buy it for a fraction of what the collector paid.
Actually Danny got a lot of this stuff for cheap. He bought a large collection from someone willing to sell at a incredible price.
@@CHASINGCARDBOARD the older stuff that he graded yes, but not the BBCE stuff and all of the modern. He even said he was buying up before the pandemic and 1980/81 Topps basketball boxes weren't exactly cheap even before the pandemic let alone ones that are BBCE wrapped.

Guys when you sell you should kick him back some more money at least another 10-15k when all said and done. Sometimes being honest and saying no, what you have is worth more pays off in the long run and brings more business. When people see you rip someone off that knows what the guy had, and so did you guys. Yea, you take a risk, but you know damn good and well you should of given him 75k minimum. I guess good business practices and ethics are hard to come buy these days. Whatever his reasoning for selling and I'm sure it was a good one and its noones business but it doesn't give someone the right to see that as desperate and take a man's collection he has put together his entire life for half of its value and still left tons of meat on the bone for you guys. I'm disappointed not going to lie. At 75k you would easily make 25-35k off that deal. Man I wouldn't be abke to look at myself in the mirror after that one fellas. BAD FORM

Oh definitely. This collection. Was worth 3-4 times what he got. Just think of all the $100-$200 cards he flipped through in random boxes. And we didn’t even see 1% of the singles.

You got out at 60% below market, a fair deal would of been 70-75k.
When a seller is wanting to sell a collection of this size, you never pay eBay comps. Especially with how much the market is dropping, and how long it takes to resell a collection of the size, never pay comps. No brainer

Mahomes is NOT a 1/1 ...it's a /20.... and Luka is not even close to 20k right now. We paid a very realistic CURRENT market price on the collection.

I used to collect ,i had collection from the 70s and 80s ,i became a teen and had a girlfriend ,i loaded up my collection and sold it for 350$ in 1986-87 ,probably woth 10s of thousands today ,i had a lot of really good cards ! Lol! 😢 oh well it is what it is ....

this guy is the worst. he lowballed him all the way and even when the seller came back with an equal lowball number of $55k, he could have just taken it there. instead, he further lowballed coming back at $53k. I wouldn't have said nothing if he just agreed to what the seller wanted at $55k. he could have been a real good human being saying he'd give him an xtra $5k at $60k but it's the sellers fault and ultimately sellers decision. but to be a cheap human garbage of a waste of space human...disgusting

Yeah they fleeced him for sure. Them replying to every single comment stating this is the tell. He clearly needed the $ sooner than later as he was willing to take way less if all cash, and today. Buuuuut the didn't force his hand, they low balled him sure, but he had every right to decline it. I think they played off the fact he didn't want to waste their time for nothing as he didn't seem to think to highly of himself or his collection which was immaculate. I can't be mad at the buyer though... If I offer you 20k for a 2020 huracan as it's all I'm willing to pay and YOU accept the deal and sell it, I don't see the buyer as a bad guy. I just wish people were a little more fair, but business is business... I've over paid when people gave me a price of $50 and the card was $1200.. i could of taken it for $50, probably shoulve but my conscience wouldn't let me. I gave him the hobby 70 percent of recent comps. I'll never be rich doing things as i do, but I do sleep easier knowing what I did make profit was for the work done, not off Exploiting others lack of knowledge or situation.

Another great episode. I would love to know what he had into the collection. It's obviously too hard to calculate when buying for years and years but it would be fascinating to know.
He got a majority of the graded and vintage form another seller, and he got an incredible deal! Less than $500.
Keep in mind viewers, BBCE is that packs are sealed and not tampered with. In no way does it mean all packs in the box are original to that box. As in if you had 3 boxes with 12 packs left in each, one could add all 36 to let's say a 1986 Topps box then send to BBCE for authentication. It is only when BBCE witnesses all boxes opened from a sealed case that the wrapping sticker will state FASC. Those are always cost more. All non FASC boxes does not mean they were all put together from multiple boxes, many of them are the day they came out of the case but not able to get FASC label.
Exactly, BBCE is not respected by anyone after all of the mistakes they’ve made in the hobby. They don’t even check sealed cases to make sure it’s the correct product inside.
