When Alma talks of illuminating our souls through the word of god I made the strangest connection. In Europe in the Middle Ages and especially Ireland there were these things called illuminated manuscripts (or illuminated texts) being made. They were mostly copies of the gospels and scripture. These books were so well made and so well taken care of that some survive now more than a millennium later. But the process of how they were made is what drew my attention. Prodigal amounts of money would be spent collecting the most expensive dyes and inks and even gold and jewels for the book. Carefully crafted leather would be made to bind and protect the pages. hundreds of animal hides would be painstaking stretched taking several weeks each for the pages. And then the actual work would begin of copying down the text, designing the paintings and Inlaying the book with gold. It would take several years with many people helping to complete these works of art. To me bringing the gold and the silver and the inks and dyes and page after page is what we can do. We can study the word of god make every sacrifice we can (these literal treasures were not cheap) to provide the things god needs to turn our souls into beautiful illuminated texts. Every turn of a page of the scriptures is another page for god to write on. Every moment spent pondering is a chance for god a dip of his brush into the ink pot. Those moments where we take the love we have learned and share it with others is an opportunity for god to inlay our hearts in precious gold and jewels. Reading the scriptures now and then can create a pretty page or a small pamphlet but years and years spent studying and reading and pondering and applying gives god hundreds of strokes with a brush, innumerable scratches of the pen and a vast treasure trove of gold to adorn our hearts with.
Your analogy really made me stop and think about the quality of the time I spend in the scriptures. It seems that in the past few years I have been rediscovering them. I feel like I was a child just playing in my mother’s jewelry box before. Putting on the pretty things and parading around, saying, “Look at me. I’m a princess.” Now, as you said, I am discovering that the jewelry box is an immense treasure trove of precious gems, large and small. I’m picking them up one by one and really examining them through my jewelers loop (ie the Holy Spirit) and discovering that these are not just pretty trinkets for me to wear to impress others and show them how I look while I am wearing them. They are an inheritance from a Heavenly King. Their worth is priceless and I will never tire of picking them up, carefully examining them and sharing them with my brothers and sisters. The more I wear and share them, the more I discover. I see others wearing valuable jewels as well and we joyfully exchange them with each other and give them to those who have none. Thank you for your insights into how very precious the scriptures are.

Thankyou so so much for this list!!! Before I found it I would have to relisten to the videos 3-4 times to find a specific comment. This is a goldmine, maybe David and Emily could mention it once in a while so others can benefit from it 😊
I'm so glad you mentioned Harry Potter, because I always feel like I'm not as good as you church people because i love harry potter so much.I knew instantly what their order was when you said,"If you've read Order of the Phoenix"
Our family Loves don't miss this!! We watch it every week. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and insights with us! You're awesome! I agree with Br Butler about camping. 😉⛺ My mom use to say, her idea of roughing it, was spending the night in a Holiday Inn.😊😉
I have a tee shirt that says G>∧∨ which means that God is greater than any mountain we climb, or valleys we cross...God is greater than our struggles uphill or our deepest trials....
This is our second week doing the Summer Hero Reading and Don't miss This videos. As I put on this video on my tv my son, who is 3 years old, yells "HEROS." I am actually enjoying these lessons and happy to teach my family more about the Book of Mormon.
I've had those strength-enabling moments, too, Emily! They are holy and so comforting. It is when we are so vulnerable that God intervenes so sweetly. By the way - I would love a podcast about female disciples. Mary Magdalene was probably one of the greatest disciples who ever lived, and yet we don't often hear about her discipleship.
I literally just screamed out YAAAAAAS !!! When David said why he hates camping!!! I say the EXACT SAME THING! #butihaveahouse #whypretend #outsideisdirty #iliveinmyshower #ACmuch
“Did you cuss?” 😂😂😂 I love David’s sense of humor hahaha. Thank you for making these lessons fun, and sharing your love of Jesus with each of us! It’s been such a blessing during this time. 💕
I really loved the discussion on Thomas & his experience with feeling the wounds in Christ's hands. I love how David said that Christ knew what Thomas's concern was, and then what Emily said about how "I'm not afraid of you being in that place. You bring that concern to me" - that is just so powerful! I think all too often we think that if we have questions or concerns or struggles that we can't go to Christ (or anyone) because it's better to have it all figured out or that we'll get judged if we have questions, when this isn't the case. Yes, it's great to have faith & trust, but Christ still welcomes and helps even if you do have concerns and questions. He's the best person to be able to address those and help you overcome them. Thank you for this!!
I love the focus on the Holy Order of God. This a wonderful lesson. I have always loved the books of Mosiah and of Alma , and gotten so much out of Alma 5 in particular. The CFM curriculum has illuminated teachings in the Book of Mormon that are plain and precious to me. I appreciate, as always, both of your time and talents in bringing forth these truths and sharing them with us.
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos I look forward to them every week. You both inspire me to put more thought and effort into studying the scriptures and come follow me lessons. I love how you mentioned planning your summer scripture study and how sometimes it takes extra preparation and effort. I know the Lord magnifies out efforts when we put in the work♥️
Thank you so much for what you do! I love your messages and enthusiasm every week but this week I really needed the reminder that God is bigger than what we are all going through and he can be what we need in the moment we are in. You were an answer to my prayers, you said just what I needed!
When I think of taking turns stirring, I remember all the years of churning ice-cream with my grandma. as we would take turns, we would talk about hopes and dreams.
I just watched a Hercule Poirot episode where they did the new years pudding and took turns stirring. I had never heard of the tradition before even being a fan of all things British tv/history. Cool coincidence.
Almost Winter here in Australia. Pudding might warm us up. You relinquish all responsibility David. Emily is in the stew then. Immediate goodness of God! Thanks for another great lesson.
"Sing the song of redeeming love" concert tour made me laugh so I'm glad you couldn't erase it. :). Apparently. our senses of humor run in the same general direction. Command strips are holding up my pictures and mirror. I would have cussed if they all fell off the wall, I have to admit. I love your videos,
HA, David!!! Great minds think alike!!! Like you, I always say about camping, "Why would we want to pretend to be homeless?!" Seriously, we spend upwards of half-a-million dollars on a house, and then we throw everything we own in our car and go sleep in a tent in the woods. I feel the same about Scouting: Shouldn't we be teaching our children to be successful in business, etc., rather than successful at Homelessness?!
King Cake would fit very well for your "stir up!" It has a baby Jesus inside! (We make one every year for Mardi Gras/Three Kings day, but they are yummy any time!)
I was introduced to your lessons a couple of months ago by a friend and I absolutely love them! I love your teaching styles and how you relate the scriptures to your (and our) lives. You're a great teaching team. Thankyou, I've found it so insightful and inspiring. I'm British and the pudding you're referring to is our Christmas pudding 😊
“When you look on the dictionary for the most important word, do you know what it is? It could be ‘remember.’ Because all of you have made covenants - to know what to do and you know how to do it - our greatest need is to remember. That is why everyone goes to sacrament meeting every Sabbath day.” - Spencer W. Kimball
I love your videos and all the great teaching you give, but i’ve Got to tell you, I’m British and I’ve NEVER heard of stir up Sunday! I think the pudding you’re talking about is a British Christmas Pudding, but I don’t know anyone who has ever done, or even heard of this tradition. I might have to start it though - it sounds fun!
These chapters apply to us this very week. Alma 5:54 "Yea, will ye persist in supposing that ye are better one than another; yea, will ye persist in the persecution of your brethren".
The Priesthood of the Nephites was the Holy Order. There is no mention of the Aaronic or the Melchizedek priesthood in the Book of Mormon. They had the Holy Order, the fullness of the Melchezadek priesthood, and they ordained Elders, Priests and Teachers to this order. Genesis 14:25-40 (JST) and Alma 13 explain this pretty well. To call it something else does not seem to be scriptural.
Southerners also have a New Year's tradition of putting a dime in the black eyed peas and who ever ends up with it has good luck all year. So fun to hear similarities.
Nice British accent David 🤣....I'm British and never hear of 'Stir Up Sunday'. My mother is over 60 years old and never heard of it 🤣. Maybe is a northern British thing definitely not southern mmmmm 🤔
I'm from Yorkshire living in south England, I've never heard of ‘Stir up Sunday’ either, I had to google it. I nor my parents have ever made Christmas pudding because we don’t like eating it.
I looked on the comments and seen Emily means Christmas Pudding 🤢. Yuck! Something I don't like plus it's got alcohol in and you set fire to it. Emily you shouldn't be promoting alcohol and setting things alight haha. I think you can get alcohol free ones.
Someone mentioned the other bracelets David is wearing. A few years ago, when I was going through a liturgical phase, my wife made me some prayer beads that look similar. What is the significance of David's other bracelets?

That's great! Might I add < for the symbol of us calling out to Him?
Thank you so much for mentioning the blessings given by our prophet and leaders. This is comforting. "I bless you, I promise you, I love you."

I love the hero's from Alma.
Well for me its 'winter of Heros' as I'm in South Africa and winter starts in June for us.
Thank you guys for this. The last part where you talk about tangible grace is something I and my mother really needed to hear today.

I LOVE that fun comment about the concert tour and singing the song of redeeming love. Lol. :)
Mormon was “pudding” together the Book of Mormon ;) lol . I guess he had a few of his own stir up Sundays😂🥁

We wrap the silver coin in greaseproof paper so we don’t swallow it . We also put coins in apple pie at Halloween 🎃🍀
Thank you
I was literally working with command hooks when you guys talked about them 😂😂😂

"Did you cuss?"
"No, I didn't."
"Oh, good for you." LOL!
Alma Chapter 5:4 linked to the talk Neil L. Anderson’s Spiritually Defining Memories from conference this year.
David, never stop making dumb jokes! Cuz I love the jokes
Someone mentioned the other bracelets David is wearing. A few years ago, when I was going through a liturgical phase, my wife made me some prayer beads that look similar. What is the significance of David's other bracelets?
Did anyone find the podcast by Anthony Sweat they were talking about? The link wasn’t in the newsletter.
I know your comment was from 3 years ago, but that's exactly what I'm looking for.
Love this.....
I am sorry to disagree with your comment about being in 3 different cities, but it is only 2. Really enjoy your commentary
I tried to find Anthony Sweat's temple prep with no luck. Can you include a link in the next email? Thanks

I loved the concert comment 😂❤️
I love your definition of command. Where is that referenced from?
So what do all the other bracelets that Dave wears represent?
I’m trying to order bracelets and don’t know where to go. Also, I’ve applied to get your newsletter several times and haven’t received a newsletter.
Emily has an easy shop where you can get the bracelet
Its on Etsy shop.
Love this team! Love their scripture explanation. But...I can never see what's written on the chalk board.
Hi Sue - pause the video at the 09:52 mark and you will be able to see the entire board.

I can not seem to order the bracelets They will not ship to Canada :(
I was surprised not to hear anything about the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost...what's up?
Hi, I’m in Cardiff South Wales UK, How can I order some bracelets please. Thank you 😊

Can you only get the Alma questions if you have the journal ?
Hi Krista -- the questions in the journal are similar to the ones found in Alma 5. But you can order the study journal from Deseret Book, if you want. Here's the link: deseretbook.com/p/dont-miss-this-in-the-book-of-mormon-workbook?ref=Grid%20%7C%20Search-2&variant_id=183198-paperback
David , who hurt you?? 😂😂 why are you hating on pudding ???? 😂😂lol
I was taught not to use the term hangman, because of a boy who's brother had hung himself.
Where are the questions that Alma asks that you mentioned you re-created in more modern terms?
They are in the Don't Miss This study guide....they are for purchase at Deseret Book , Seagull book etc
