    The settings at 480Hz are very limited, but I bought the monitor for 480Hz. Could you cover settings for 480Hz? What I really want is a way to disable VRR at 480Hz, but the setting is grayed in 480Hz mode.

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve not checked but I expect it’s greyed out as off rather than on isn’t it? If it’s forced on in the menu, just disable it from your graphics card menu on that side 😀

    • @jcnikoley
      @jcnikoley 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tftcentral It's forced on at all times in 480 Hz (greyed out as choice). Disabling it in Nvidia control panel, the monitor still reports it's operating in VRR mode.
      In 240 Hz, the monitor doesn't report VRR when it's turned off in Nv control panel.
      There's no flicker at 480 Hz with VRR turned on in Nv control panel. At 240 Hz, it flickers in VRR just like my 240 Hz 1440p LG oled.
      I don't think the VRR feature works at all at 480 Hz, but the monitor falsely reports it as on.

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @jcnikoley yeah that seems the likeliest scenario if it’s reporting it on when you’ve disabled it from NVCP. Sounds like you wanted it off anyway, so that’s all good 👍

    My question doesn't directly relate to this video itself but rather the monitor in this video. I've noticed that ASUS has been getting a little preds on using the same panel in their version of a dual mode. But they offer ELMB. I don't really know how it works. So does it require a special video card or setting in the computer or is it completely In the monitor itself, I run AMD video card and I use Linux. So that's why I want to know about those things because ELMB could be really good for me where I'm sensitive to motion blur. Also, not sure off top my head, but the Asus might have a better written, explicitly stated, burning warranty than LG is offering last I checked. Have you had a chance or plan to take a look at the asus variant of this panel?

      It’s a little tricky to recommend OLED for a use case which involves a lot of static content, as there’s an increased risk of image retention. But if you’ve decided OLED is ok for you then it will certainly offer excellent picture quality. I think a 32” 4K model where there’s the higher pixel density and the improved text clarity would be a very wise choice though if you do

    • @tftcentral

      That’s what happens if you view SDR content and things like windows desktop within HDR mode. Only enable HDR for actual HDR content which should look correct again as it’s mastered in the wider colour gamut and tone mapped appropriately

      @tftcentral okay, thanks got the advice. I wish windows had an auto HDR mode. HDR is terrible on windows and on monitors. Which is why me personally if im getting a OLED, HDR has to be working correctly. It doesn't make sense to have a OLED and lack HDR and for this monitor when you turn on HDR its dim and life less.
      Windows needs to work on HDR as well as LG needs to get their monitors closer to LG OLED TVS with performance and brightness then its worth it.
      And i can tell by how he's talking in the video, Not many options and really there's not much you can do to fix on the monitor. Its bland and SDR / OLED = meh experience ngl

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      HDR in windows is fine, for actual HDR content. The way it handles SDR content including the windows desktop within HDR mode is often a problem though which is why we recommend only enabling HDR mode when you’re going to view actual HDR content. No issue there really

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You mean as reported by Windows HDR calibration tool? That will be a bug with the way it's reporting info sent from the monitor to the tool, but actual luminance will be different to what that figure shows on the screen - i mean it shows that for 100% full white window too i expect, which isn't realistic on an OLED. Just make sure you've set to 'high' peak brightness and you should be achieving up to 1300 nits peak for small APL %

    • @PD-ws4td
      @PD-ws4td 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@tftcentral No, it's reporting 600 nits in windows and in the NVIDIA app. And doing calibrations both using windows and in games they clip at 600. you must disable dsc apparently and change some settings in cru to make it clip at 1300 nits. there are posts online about it. but I want to play at 240hz not 120...

    • @tftcentral
      @tftcentral  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Best way to do it then would be to just skip the Windows HDR calibration process. although even if you follow it, it won't really be clipping you at 600 nits....it won't impact the actual peak luminance being output by the screen, I've tried in the past to deliberately lower it using that tool and then re-measuring the luminance with a device and it doesn't impact it). It's just a bug with the figure being reported by the monitor to the app, quite a few of these new screens have the same issue.

    Spent 1 day on this monitor before returning. Do not buy this monitor until you see it in person. My Alienware 1440p oled uw looks way better for colors.

      Coming from a benq TN panel the only thing I dislike about the panel is the graininess I know this is because it’s a woled but still also something to consider

    Why not leave HDR on the whole time?

      Because it overexposes and undersaturates SDR content, which is like 90% of all PC games anyways.
      Just try it with some older games that don't support native HDR. Start them in SDR, take some screenshots in different areas, then do the same when started while HDR is active in windows.
      You'll see that, while the brightness is increased when you keep HDR turned on at all times, in regular SDR games the image will be "washed out", with duller colours and overblown saturation.
      And while Auto HDR is promising, it doesn't work with everything and might create it's own issues.
      In general, you only turn on HDR for games that natively support it (or if you're using third party methods/mods to implement it).

    How can people not be using FPS Mode, it is the best picture setting with -> Brightness 100 -> Peak Brightness: High -> Color Temp C10 (Rest no need to touch unless you want Oled protection on)
    Edit; I changed into same settings on Gamer 1 and ended up making a profile. The picture was dark and boring so had to turn up HDR brightness from 30 to 100 in Windows HDR settings. The colors/contrast seems tuned down. To get the clarity back I think sitting at 75 sharpness seems good. The picture is less living, but it looks more natural. Using the same settings as above.
    Remember turning on 10 bit color and 0-255 color range in Nvidia Control Panel.
    Gotta say after tuning Gamer 1 it made me feel more like home, but I have enjoyed the FPS mode since I got the monitor so will need to test further. Anyways I don't find any better settings than these. Have fun!

      Because it’s hugely inaccurate, overly saturated and in that combination, overly bright. But having said that, if you like that setting that’s obv fine

      @@tftcentral I can understand what you mean. But this monitor can work with that no problem compared to earlier ones. I find them both likeable in each way, its nice to be able to change the settings by 2 clicks. I love this monitor so much. It could be brighter but honestly i dont give a shit. It changes when you get in games, its just amazing 🤣 Sun is blending me in games so I'm curious on the new settings

    The display of this monitor is awful. They need to fix their firmware or move toward a new OLED technology. Compared to QD-OLED black shadow detail is crushed badly. Was using my iPhone 13 Pro Max/Galaxy Tab S8+ displays to compare detail while using the Black Equalizer but couldn’t match the detail of those OLED displays. Returned this monitor and bought a AW3225QF and couldn’t be happier.

      They released update firmware where it did fix the crushing of Blacks. Dont have the monitor myself but seen a couple of reviewers mention this

      @@tftcentral Eh on OLED it looks identical to srgb mode. After tuning it with the slider in windows I can't tell the difference between srgb and HDR with sdr content. Feels like that article was written for lcd panels.

      @BeHempy if you want to run it with HDR on all the time, that’s fine. I wouldn’t. You’re right that it can be less of an issue on OLED though, but not every screen behaves as nicely as the C2.
