Basically, millions of Irish people died a couple of hundred years ago because of a disease to the potato crop and England didn't help them and in fact made it worse, making them export some of the only good food they did produce. The population of Ireland is still lower than it was before the famine because around 2 million died i think. I'm no expert but yeah. So making a joke about Irish people leaving out the potatoes or whatever brings it to mind, especially from an English person lol
