Spencer does the same thing, it's a common thing in rock and metal. During certain parts you can hear her singing those same "strained" notes in a clear tone that doesn't sound strained. If you don't like the sound of it that's one thing, but she's not "struggling to hit those notes," it's a stylistic choice.
Rocking the squeaky innocent cleans and raw growls with your own plain voice like always. Keep it up. Saw them play this live in Tampa and it was soul reviving. It's marigold and more metal trinity.

I found the music of Red Handed Denial and Periphery at around the same time a few years ago and liked what I heard from both. It's really cool the two sounds complement each other in a cover like this.
