Today I present to you a complete drum transcription and performance of the Creedence Clearwater Revival classic “Fortunate Son” recorded in 1969 at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California. The overlaid sheet music follows the video so you can play along beat for beat.
Doug Clifford, the drummer of Creedence Clearwater Revival, is known for his solid and powerful playing style. His ability to deliver a steady and dynamic rhythm was an essential part of the band's distinctive sound.
“Fortunate Son” was released in 1969 and quickly became an anthem of the Vietnam anti-war movement and a symbol of resistance to US military involvement. The song, based on social injustice and class barriers, was composed by John Fogerty in just 20 minutes out of anger at the inequality he experienced during the Vietnam War.
However, “Fortunate Son” is more than a protest against the Vietnam War, it is more relevant than ever. The song is a timeless appeal for social justice and peace. It calls on us to recognize the injustices caused by power and privilege and to take action against them.

@@JazzDrummersCorner Not a huge CCR fan, more of a hard rock kinda' guy. But I can appreciate the work you put into the transcriptions, not only the notation but identifying the parts of the song form. It's really helpfully to learners to see the 'big picture' before focusing on all the 'details' (i.e., playing notes without reference to where one is in the song).
