The final challenge is to design a cut scene from a pixel art game. In this video 2 graphic designers go head to head to create pixel based artwork for a video game from the 80's. The video game cut scene had to include a main character a boss fight and a super power. You get to decide which designers advance to the next round!

Think Renata's pixel art is more original in the making. She indeed crafted every pixel. Trevor did an amazing job but he put too many details into the picture which makes it look more like an illustration with sharpened edges and reduced colors, rather that actual pixelart. It's so hard to pick the winner...
Yea his differently cooler but she closely followed the prompt and made actually pixel art from scratch
My thoughts exactly. It misses the element of actual 'pixel art'. This is more like low-res
I think the design on the right is better, however, it is technically not pixelart, so it's not fair to give it the win. the left design is pretty good and it stayed true to the pixelart format... i think the left one wins but that's just my opinion :p both did a fantastic job throughout the competition, incredible designers!

Yes, some of the fun of pixel art is being limited to a certain size
yeah the limit should be they only choose one pixel color. then let's decide who can draw better
Renata's art is more true to the challenge, and as a non emulator type of guy, i must go with her work, great job.

Her work is not post-apocalyptic compared to the guy. I don't understand what you like about her work, it looks like a normal rpg game tbh
Renata truly answered the brief. The second is a little too defined to be classed as pixel art. Plus Renata painstakingly created each pixel. She has truly shone during this competition. Excelling in areas she claims to be out of her comfort. She has really impressed me 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Renata: I prefer the artstyle used in the pixel art to Trevor's, but the "main attack/ability" I feel was kind of lost.
Trevor: Love the enemy design, but the lack of game UI kind of brings it down for me. Although yeah in cutscenes, game UI does tend to disappear for a bit.
So hard to choose they're both so good !!

Yeah, I agree, and even hers looks quite "organic". I was expecting some old-school 32x32 game sprites, but these are more like title screens. Or like the artistic scenes in the LucasArts Indiana Jones or Monkey Island games perhaps.
But I guess these designers are too young to know about Pong and Space Invaders, and I am to old to know what pixelart means nowadays, so I'll refrain from giving advice on how to vote. :-)

Renata's colors are fantastic and really give off the pixel art vibe. The volumes, lights and shadows, character outlines, outstanding illustration!

I liked both works. I believe that because it is more of a mainstrem Trevor will win the vote. But I liked Renata's work much more artistically and for its originality. Good work from both.

Both designs are so good but I feel like "Ingrata" stuck to the breif more and made the illustration pixelated and the other kind of cheated as the illustration looks clearer for having way more pixels. I also loved her game's back story.

hyperlight drifter is definitely one of the best pixel art games i have ever played. it has the tightest gameplay and the most gorgeous pixel art and animation

I can only imagine how long it took her to plan out every pixel, even the fill in was long. Trevor did great but didn't follow the prompt he made a pixel art styled illustration not pixel art.

My favorite pixel game is Primordia which is a post-apocalyptic future game so when I heard the final idea it fit so well.
I had a gameboy color and absolutely loved that thing
There was no specification of bit rate so both art is fair in my opinion. Renata’s looks like you are actually in game and starting to play where is Trevor’s is a actual cut scene which is usually better quality than the actual game. I think I will go with Trevor on this one but both are amazing

I just discovered your channel a few days ago. I dabbled with graphic design in college (nearly 30 years ago) - back before digital tools were common enough to learn them in college. I've always been "graphic design adjacent" throughout my career. I'm just now learning Adobe Illustrator. Can you recommend a particular (or set of) basic classes to get me familiar with the layout, standard tools, etc.? I'm familiar with PhotoShop and similar tools - but the vector based thought process is new to me. Loving your stuff. Thanks!

I'm a big fan of the pixel art style. Stardew Valley, Undertale, Enter the gungeon and party hard are some really good pixel art games.

The Messenger is one of my absolute favourite pixel platformers of all time. Great writing and dialogue, level design, mechanics, etc. but most importantly the switch from 16-bit to 32-bit art and music halfway through the game (or was it 8-bit to 16-bit? I'm not really sure)
Tower Fall is an amzing plateform ish pixel art style game on Steam. Highly recommend :)
