    Thanks so much for making this guide! This is the song that first wanted to make me learn balalaika, a couple of years ago... I gave up with the idea once, rediscovered the same song and decided to jump for it, saved up the money, purchased a balalaika and - damn! Nearly destroyed in shipping. Head snapped clean off. Two months of procrastination and restoration work and I finally sit down to learn to play, and not only have you made a guide to the exact song I want, but it's easy for a beginner like me! Thanks again from the UK!

      I will be posting more tutorials in the future, not to worry. My balalaika is broken right now though, so I can’t say when exactly I’ll be able to.
      I’ve very glad that my videos were helpful for you, and hope your grandfather enjoyed his musical surprise!

      I had never heard of smuglyanka until your comment, but after going and listening to it, I would love to do a tutorial on it!
      I’ll have to learn it myself first though, so it may be a little while. Stay tuned!

    Nice job mate, continue like this! Btw I have some problem for close the 2 E with the thumb, why? And where could I take the notes for more pieces?

    • @solomonisms9000
      @solomonisms9000  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad you enjoyed! Playing with the thumb can be quite difficult and requires some getting used to. I had to adjust the way I hold the neck of the instrument to be able to do it properly. Try using the side of your thumb rather than the pad. That might give you a bit more reach.
      Perhaps soon I will make a brief video about balalaika techniques that work for me.
      As for other pieces, I'm afraid I can't be much help. I play by ear, and can't read sheet music. I have another tutorial, and plan to make more, so stay tuned for that I suppose.

    • @solomonisms9000

      Glad to be of help!
      My balalaika is a battered, used, antique souvenir from the Moscow 1980 Olympics. Lots of character, not so much quality.
      If you want a great source for quality instruments, go to the website "Thomann" they are based in Germany, but have both UK and US based sites. They carry several balalaikas, and can be trusted to deliver a quality instrument. I got my Lute from them, and have no complaints, and I still buy strings for many of my instruments from them, including my balalaika. They have a 3 year warranty if something goes wrong, and offer a fixed shipping rate, so you won't be doubling the expense to have it delivered.
      Best of luck, and happy playing!

      I bought mine used from a local collector. If you’re interested in getting one, I recommend buying from Thomann Music. I get my strings from them, and have bought an instrument from them as well. Very reliable. Here’s a link.
