I was facing this jerking movement while changing gears from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3, applying the second technique really helps...holding the bite point for some time and then apply little gas, then slowly releasing the clutch makes it so smooth. Thanks for the tip
for me, i always have a really long delay for accelerationg when changing from 1 to 2, or i get a massive jerk. ive started applying a little gas when pulling the clutch out and got perfectly smooth gear changes, but i thought that would be damaging the clutch. does anyone know whether using a slight pressure on the gas when releasing the clutch is bad or fine?
Just got a manual car and had no clue how to drive it and these videos helped me so much!! I’m on day two and doing way better than the first time I ever drove it
You are a better driving teacher than mine at this moment. He always gets irritated every time I slowed down as I shift gears... Thank you for the assurance that as a beginner, slowing down is a natural thing...
Good explanation, my teachers did not do a good job explaining it to me, had to figure it out on my own, the key word you explained here is "gently release the gas" like theres still revs in the engine.
I've always heard never to add gas while you hold the clutch at the bite point on an upshift, but i always felt it was smoother, and felt that smoother was better for the clutch, the engine, the transmission. every time i do it its so smooth, it feels like it can't be bad for the car, so i'm glad to hear you do it too.
Upshifting to 2nd gear is my current problem when driving manual and this video just saved my life and my wallet. I can't thank you enough good sir. Greetings from CA!

“During your driving lessons you aren’t going to get hugely skilful, you’re going to get skilful enough to pass a driving test”. Nailed it. Thank you so much, Richard! I feel like my driving instructor wants me to aspire to being a precision driver (and makes me do methods for changing gears and for manoeuvres that are way beyond my realistic skill level). All it does is increase the amount of mistakes I make, which undermines my confidence, and leads to even more problems.
I was able to learn manual transmission with this person. My brother has been driving a manual for many years, but he didn't explain it as well as this person did. I was able to learn how to drive a manual transmission much faster after watching videos on how to find the flat point, uphill start, and so on.

These videos are absolutely phenomenal. I have only ever driven automatic transmission vehicles and I bought my first manual recently. These videos are a godsend.
