As a BYU alum of 17 years, I can confidently say that the only consistent characteristic of BYU football is overachieving until people notice, and then cratering spectacularly once expectations rise. I want to be wrong this year. But I don't think I am.
One thing I’d like to point out to the Utah fans that claim the PAC 12 was some sort of powerhouse- literally only 2 of the original PAC 12 teams are ranked, and one of them is Utah. Meanwhile, 4 of the top 20 are BigXII teams, and you could definitely make the argument that Tech, ASU, and Colorado deserve a spot in the top 25.
As a WVU Fan BYU is my 2nd fav team, keep winning.

SMU has averaged 46 points against the rest of their schedule. BYU didn't give them a single touchdown.
BYUs defense made Kstate completely implode.
They have the strongest strength of record in the nation.
They're the only team to beat two ranked teams.
They're clearly deeper than last year where a few injuries created holes in the team that they couldn't account for, plus the first half of last year's schedule was weaker than the second half, not the case this year.
If you still don't let yourself get excited at this point, what's even the point in watching sports?

BYU is good, but they haven't exactly blown everyone out. It's far more likely that they drop 2-4 of the next 7 thanit is that the ball keeps bouncing their way.
@@johnfaris5376 I looked up the national champion the past couple years. Both Georgia and Michigan had a couple games where they narrowly won over unranked teams. It's completely normal for a team ranked #14 to let their foot off the gas when they score 21 points in the first quarter. That's life, and yeah, if they really were falling apart, then they could've lost that game.
But they kept their focus and won the game. That's not a red flag.
Again, you can't compare the first and last halfs of this and last season. Read my comment if you didn't get that.
As for injuries, BYU doesn't have their starting center. Last game, they had their 3rd string right guard. This game is the first with a full running back corp. There are always injuries, but this team is deep and fighting like hell.
Even when they lose a game or two, they'll likely still be ranked because they're playing very well.
I'm not saying they'll be undefeated and national champions. I am saying this team is wildly impressive, deserving of the hype and the ranking, and that's something to get excited about.
Arizona State's second half Big 12 schedule is about as brutal as it gets. Of the teams toward the top of the league, Iowa State and Arizona State will have to run the gauntlet in order to still be there at the end.
I have often said that the quality of a league has much more to do with a comprison of their bottom teams than by comparing those on top.

The BYU students section will be there and loud. But sometimes BYU day crowds aren’t as full because of church responsibilities sometimes are on Saturdays. Service projects, baptisms, cleaning the church building and other stuff like that. That being said because we are 5-0 it’s going to be full.
We are getting back some of our running back depth so Jake won’t have to run as much and can focus on the pass game.
I think our biggest problem is converting 3rd downs and sustaining drives. If we do that one thing better then in the past we win. I don’t think we get better at that until the play calling improves. I have zero confidence that ARod will improve game calling. That’s why I’m nervous every game.
The defense may carry the team again, but that isn’t sustainable. We will lose a few games minimum if we overly rely on defense. The offense play calling has to improve.
They need the run game to pick up. Those 3rd and 7’s need to be 3rd and 4’s and the offense will get better. I’m worried without Pay

What more than anything is fans of big 12 schools to watch the games of other big 12 schools that they’re not a fan of the build the TV numbers for the conference this is what will drive the next contract fans that just watched their own team and not watch other teams are not helping at all all they need to be football fans as well as their school fans. This is the difference between the SEC and big 10 and all the other conferences. Please do not at the end of your game. Turn it over to an SEC or Big Ten game. Hell no turn it to another big 12 game. The fact is the only member of the new Pac-12 that was offered a place in the BIg-12 was San Diego State, which was offered a half share at $15 million and turned it down, figuring you couldn't compete at that money for 7 years. The only cache that Washington State and Oregon State have was that they were in the Pac-12. The TV audience was in large part due to that because they were playing other Pac-12 teams that did have a big audience. The Big 12 gave thwm a hard no, and I don't think that's going to change. I don't know who they would take out of the new Pac-12, maybe San Diego State and Boise State. even then, it won't be a full share, that's for sure. Yes, you're right, the whole new Pac-12 is just a life raft for Wazzu and Oregon State.
As for your tirade about schools having stayed in the name, give me a break, Arizona State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Michigan State, and Louisiana State University.
It's a super conference is formed, it's not going to be 70 teams, it's going to be more like 60 or 55. The greedy Hogs in the SEC and Big 12 aren't going to want to give up any money for the likes of BYU, West Virginia, three or four teams in the ACC will bite the dust, as well as several teams in the Big 12. Even if they get in that super conference it will be based on wins and they'll be receiving a pittance compared to what the big boys do.
No they have nots and are far better off pointing in your own playoff system. I doubt academics will have much to do with this new playoff system; however, this is a point of reference Outside of the top four schools in the Pac-12, all the other schools academically were ranked below San Diego State except for ASU, which was tied at 105. Boise State unfortunately, something like 338. As for many of the teams in the Big 12 and ACC, there's a delusion of inclusion in this so-called super conference.

If you look at the Massey Composite (an averaging of dozens of ratings systems that use math rather than "brand") they have ISU at 8 and BYU at 10 as well. Yes, by math, they deserve to be there.

Stop crying about Utah. If you want to play AAC or mountain West teams every week that will kiss your ass then go do that. Utah is tough and competitive.
