If anyone is back ordered on the FX6. I just ordered one on adorama. It was backordered a little over a week ago but within days it was fulfilled! Can’t wait to try it out.
Just grabbed my first FX6 yesterday after waiting since March. Not played around with it much (due to client projects atm) but i am super excited. Awesome video by the way, great review dude.
Moved from the Komodo to the fx3 recently, best decision i've made. Definitely wanna eventually get the fx6, but currently rocking the fx3 as A cam and fx30 as b cam. The 12,800 base iso has been a game changer, especially considering I couldn't comfortably take the Komodo past 3200.
Yeah the Komodo is way more for controlle environments and it does amazing at that , but the fx6 for the more guerrilla type shoots has been excellent for me
I got a question for you -- I'm so close to offing our FX3s and was looking at a Komodo, but after reading comments like these I think I would miss the lowlight capabilities and ease of use. But I just can't get over the fact that I can't view my settings info while using an external monitor - which I feel is such a basic function of a "cinema camera". Am I missing something or are you working while limited only to a clean feed on monitor? We are working more with wireless monitoring and for a director to not be able to see record or TC info, camera settings etc. on the display without cropping it to a 4:3 and reducing the effective resolution of the monitor seems absolutely silly to me.
@@GloryVisualsArchive I mean the fx3 isn't really meant to be on a huge set with tons of workers. If it's vital that the director sees info on a separate monitor, it's already not the camera for you. But it can still send a good signal to the monitor for them to view what's happening. Shouldn't really need to monitor settings if we know what they're set to in camera. But the fx3 is mean to be a one man band camera. If you want more cinema functionality, that's what the fx6 was created for. That's a more direct comparison to the Komodo, and I would 100% say the fx6 wins that battle. The Komodo is cool because of the RED name, and that's really it in my opinion. Doesn't even have built in ND's, has no timecode port, has no xlr's on the camera, etc. Long story short, if you want the RED name go for it, if not then the fx6 is a better option. But I prefer my fx3 over both.
@@conner_productions I get that - but it’s even more important IMO for the operator. As an operator, not being able to even see my own settings on an external monitor is annoying considering even the a6000 has this function (because the LCD is 16x9 and not 4:3)
@@GloryVisualsArchive Yeah I get that, but at the same time i usually don't use an external monitor, especially if I'm using autofocus as I can't touch my monitor for touch focus. I genuinely believe the fx3 is a better camera than the fx6 and Komodo after using all of them, but if you're debating getting a Komodo I would just say that it's really overhyped (as is usually the case with all red's)
I gotta tell you Bro, I not only enjoyed your real world review, I respect that you speak from experience as a professional in this industry. I am a full time content creator and make my living off of what I shoot. As a corporate video content creator I will say that the tools aren’t what make you, but your skill set and your ability to make clients comfortable from their initial inquiry until the shoot wraps. With that being said, I agree the proper tools for your workflow WILL make your life much easier. I own both the FX-6 and FX-3. Both cameras have served me well (and paid for themselves ten times over in revenue from my clients) What I respect the most about your review is it’s not your typical “influencer” reciting specs off of the website (with the rental barcodes visible on the body and links below to affiliates for discounts on gear). You don’t come off like so many of these paid shills (who I won’t name). There are too many “fakers” out there that claim to do what we do every day and show no evidence that they are anything but paid influencers. No light stands, no gaffers tape, no company vehicles…..just a backpack and a gimbal at a skatepark or in the woods shooting everything in 60 fps and speed ramped edits. Whereas with you I am actually seeing you on set with BTS footage. I respect an opinion from a working pro, much like I would respect the opinion of a manager who’s previously done my job (and knows what’s he talking about) before telling me what I need to do to improve my performance. You gave your opinion based on your “real world” everyday experience as an industry professional and showed evidence to back it up. Props Brotha. If you’re ever in the NY/NJ area and want to shoot or need a crew to help on a project hit me up. I know you are legit-you’ve proven it.

@@KofiYeboah We’re right where we need to be. In the niche where there is no politics and nepotism getting you the job. The segment that we work in is one on which you have to prove you’re qualified to do the job and then you have to execute on set and prove it all over again. I got into this business to be an entrepreneur not a cameraman for hire.
You can see the FX6's biggest issue at 7:50 around the sun - yellow colors create weird artifacts when they are close to clipping and it's not really fixable in post. I'm actually surprised how this is not talked about more.

Just bought it for TH-cam videos. I think it's gonna be fun :) What I noticed after playing with it all day - You got only two ISO options when shooting Slog3 - 800 and 12800. Nothing in between. Also, that cable connecting the monitor with FX6 body. It's not the best quality plug and at some point I have a feeling it will fail. Great review Sir. Started watching U, when looking for FX6 videos :)

It may be my computer, but do you use some sort of stereo expander on your voice? If so, on some certain headsets, it seem like the audio's clipping multiple places in this film. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Keep up the amazing work, man!
I have he auto level and the ai voice isolator in DaVinci on so it shouldn’t? Then again the first word of a new sentence when I’m taking I am loud haha
@@KofiYeboah I'm not sure if you should bother about it. Since I'm the only one reporting it, it must be our production headset that's too sensitive. I've experienced myself when we produced a film with stereo expander on. If you're curious, the headset I'm using is the Sony MDR-7508.

Nice review, Kofi. I've been documenting my journey with Komodo, R5C etc over on my channel as well. I would've thrown the FX6 in there also, but as you mentioned they've been extraordinarily difficult to get a hold of until just recently. Regarding the no audio when the top handle isn't on thing...can you still run time code into the body and track audio to a recorder, or does losing the handle lose timecode as well?
From what I hear, Sonys changing that, I’ve seen fx6’s being more in stock lately !! And absolutely you can ! I usually have a tentacle sync with my fx6 when working with a sound guy👍🏾
Just got my FX 6. It was ordered in February. The bayonet side mounted handle seems to have some slack. In other words when mounted, you can twist it forward and back about 1/16", which is enough to make a click as it moves back and forth. Is this normal? Does your side handle mount solid?

2 more months until I have my fx6 my schools sending it to me for my digital cinematography degree going to take a bit getting used to going from just a standard digital camera to this beast.

I got an old A7ii and been recording 1080p using a Weebill S. Although the a7ii has ibis, I find it to be subpar and truly relied on the Weebill S for walking around. The 3 options for this sensor makes it difficult to decide, a7s iii, fx3, or fx6. I like the 2 smaller cameras because of ibis but I like the bigger brother fx6 because of built in ND. Based on my experience, perhaps it's wiser to use gimbal and oss from lens for stability and benefit from the FX6 ND filter which would be very useful. What are your thoughts?
Coming from a gh5 I can say upgrading to the fx6 was a nobrainer. Ive also got an a73 as b cam, but wouldnt want to use that as an a cam over the FX6. It really helps you becoming a better filmmaker as you can’t rely on stabilizers and ibis that much. And clients love the “bigger” camera, especially with a rig this will get more beefy!
Actually, it was a workflow/ergonomics thing , the c70 outside of lacking lowlight was more than fine! I even paired it with some Leica R lenses and it looked phenomenal, the 3 cameras have very comparable quality, it’s moreso use case that’ll sway one or the ofjer
Hello how are you, I know it has nothing to do with this topic, but seeing that you have an fx6, you could still help me.. I am trying to attach the proxies files that create my fx6 in premier pro but I get this error (proxy media and full resolution media should have the same audio channels), the thing is that the original file has 8 channels and the proxy 2, I have tried to change it in the camera, in the proxy menu and it won't let me change the audio channels, I have also tried to do it in the premier pro menu and the same thing keeps coming out. Does anyone know something?? can you help me
Just bought a Ninja V and hated it with a passion. About to return it and probably get this M1. The whole SLOG3 not showing up properly all the workarounds I've seen to make it usable not for me. and this is someone coming from a feelworld F6.
@@KofiYeboah lol nice. i recently turned it off and I shot an interview with that setting. I exposed it a bit darker and I noticed I’m getting a lot of noise in the shadows. Do you try to ensure you hit specific markers on the waveform to minimize noise or do you just let resolve do it’s denoise magic? 😅
Amazing Review! I used the fx6 today and i have to say I prefer the image of my canon 250d. I was very surprised, but i hate sony colors and i was very disappointed. Maybe I have to learn the workflow a bit but straight out of camera the image looked terrible. I think for the price I would go with a canon c70 or with the new Lumix s5ii for 2000 dollars.
@@KofiYeboah 2 C70's an R5c and EOS that lives on a gimbal. SONY's are smokin cameras. You can't go wrong with either. Pick your annoyance battles. I hear collaboration talk with Canon and RED that could be interesting. I also hear people leaving Canon because the client might prefer SONY. I'm all about the end product. However you get there... as long as it's not an iPhone.

Loving the channel but you definitely partial to fx6 lol! C70 being $500 cheaper means if you want that’s 5 ef to rf mount adapters, has more 3 more stops ND filters, no need for top handle, same mount as all new reds, better battery life and DGO sensor which you left out 😊 …. At end of day as you said all cameras great but with all new firmware c70 better value
@@KofiYeboah I am, only comment on creators I respect! I’ve shot with all the cameras as well and the edge I give to Sony is low light but other than that C70 all day! If you’re ever in LA hmu, wishing I knew about you when I was in Toronto for TIFF
@@KamalJones ahah the lowlight was the EXACT tipping point for me as I work with doc directors from time to time and the C70 just couldn’t hang haha I was a last minute addition from an agency, there’s always next year haha!

interesting footage of the c70 in lowlight. I thought with the DGO sensor it was supposed to be good around the 6400 iso range.
Its not BAD per se, like it could be worse, honestly, but the fx6 is alot better imo

11:49 couldn’t you jam timecode to an H5 recorder using TentacleSynch to have clean audio?
The audio guy for that commercial prefers the tentacle, I have an H6, and idk how to on the h6 😅

Strange , I had not one problem on the ninja V, like if a lot actually!

Can you use the Sony ECM-B1M or ECMB10 Microphones that don’t require an audio Jack and/or the top handle?
No unfortunately, they connect via hotshoe and the only hotshoe is the top handle

Awesome video man! Quick question for you. On the FX6's Noise Suppression settings, what level do you usually set it on?
Mines actually always off 😅
@@KofiYeboah lol nice. i recently turned it off and I shot an interview with that setting. I exposed it a bit darker and I noticed I’m getting a lot of noise in the shadows. Do you try to ensure you hit specific markers on the waveform to minimize noise or do you just let resolve do it’s denoise magic? 😅

Amazing Review! I used the fx6 today and i have to say I prefer the image of my canon 250d. I was very surprised, but i hate sony colors and i was very disappointed. Maybe I have to learn the workflow a bit but straight out of camera the image looked terrible. I think for the price I would go with a canon c70 or with the new Lumix s5ii for 2000 dollars.
To each their own! I’ve found im able to get amazing stuff out of the camera , but it’s not for EVERYONE

I came (back) to Sony, former C70/R5 guy myself!
@@KofiYeboah 2 C70's an R5c and EOS that lives on a gimbal. SONY's are smokin cameras. You can't go wrong with either. Pick your annoyance battles. I hear collaboration talk with Canon and RED that could be interesting. I also hear people leaving Canon because the client might prefer SONY. I'm all about the end product. However you get there... as long as it's not an iPhone.

Loving the channel but you definitely partial to fx6 lol! C70 being $500 cheaper means if you want that’s 5 ef to rf mount adapters, has more 3 more stops ND filters, no need for top handle, same mount as all new reds, better battery life and DGO sensor which you left out 😊 …. At end of day as you said all cameras great but with all new firmware c70 better value

@@KofiYeboah I am, only comment on creators I respect! I’ve shot with all the cameras as well and the edge I give to Sony is low light but other than that C70 all day! If you’re ever in LA hmu, wishing I knew about you when I was in Toronto for TIFF
@@KamalJones ahah the lowlight was the EXACT tipping point for me as I work with doc directors from time to time and the C70 just couldn’t hang haha
I was a last minute addition from an agency, there’s always next year haha!
