Of course it's better to baby it, but with Toyotas you know you can be agressive like that and it will still work perfectly. Try doing that in a BMW. 😀😀

Hey man, so I’m trying to put the spring back on and it’s not letting me click the button anymore and put the hand brake down. I’m tightening it on like normal but no matter what it doesn’t go down
Props to Toyota/Subaru for putting a handbrake in this car rather than a whack electric parking brake.
For those that don’t want to damage the factory one use a piece of rubber to help minimize damage

You can very easily just wrap a rag around the button to protect it from the teeth of the channel locks so its reusable!

there was no need to destroy the stock button but sure
