    Red LED stays on solid on my pair of 4.2b but won't heat up? Is the thermal fuse gone? I thought there'd be no circuit at all if it had?

      Correct your thermal fuse is fine so can only mean you have 2 broken elements (heaters)

    Where do you source the correct resistors in bulk for R8 R11 ? I can only find the pair or single for sale.

      RS or Farnell there are a few combos to pick from but you can pay for the more exotic flavors, a good start is fanell 3086689 which is a 47 ohm 1 watt melf with a 300v max (50ohms will cost you so go for a 47 or 51 ohm), off top of my head think the original r8/r11 are 0.4w @50 ohm

    Hello, i took my north american GHD 4.2B model to europe. I attempted to use it with a converter and it didnt heat up. It started beeping. I am back in north america now and my straightner will not turn on. Any ideas what this may be? And any possible solutions? Thank you so much!

    My straighteners all of a sudden starting beeping manicly and they heat up but the beeping and a cracking sort of noise happens when i try and straighten and they won’t go away do you know what this could be

      the swivel joint will need replacing and possibly the cable also, if its left unrepaired R8 or R11 will fail and they will become dead

    Hi Kev, Great, clear video! Only question I have is what size resistor is R8? I can’t read the ring colours on my wife’s set as it’s black/burnt.

      If your GHD has a R11 also then R8 and R11 are 50 ohms, if it only has a R8 then R8 is 100 ohms, 47 or 52or 56 ohms will work fine and are easier to find.

    What's the big black square near the microcontroller?

    Hi Kev, do you know what the resistors are on the GHD 4.2b they have 105 written on them, I guess 1megaohm. I've ordered multiple but I keep getting them too small, they are 6mm x 3mm ish

    Kev I've got the same digital thermometer as you , I repair GHD's myself. Does your thermometer max out at 200 degrees? Mine does. Not sure if it's the thermometer or my thermocouple probe.

    My plates don't meet on my ghds do you know how to mend them?

    • @KevsElectricalWorkshop
      @KevsElectricalWorkshop  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      On this model the plates meet at the inner end first and require extra pressure to meet over the length, the plates are mounted on rubbers to allow the plate to move. if you cant get any part of the plates to meet you have a issue with the hinge.

      What would you like to know, short story 32 years in instrumentation and process control (aerospace sector) and since last year facilities engineer (design/build/install bespoke equipment for the aerospace sector... hence lack of vids recently). Started doing GHD's over 10 years ago and still doing them my last count was over 10,000 repaired

      @@KevsElectricalWorkshop I'm just curious why you have so many hair straighteners on your bench? A sort of work at home contract you have with the manufacturer dealing with customer repair? They send them to a PO box near you or you pick up a bunch..? I'm just curious what those are doing there, how they get there, and what happens to them after lol

    • @KevsElectricalWorkshop
      @KevsElectricalWorkshop  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also run my own repair business repairing GHD's, GHD's are sent direct from customer and returned back to them

      @@KevsElectricalWorkshop To me it just seems like the kind of cheap thing you get a new one of, it amazes me you fix so many, and how cheap they seem in look and feel... You are the authorized service centre and the customer services give out your address or you have an ad in the phone box with your extremely specific specialty?

    • @KevsElectricalWorkshop
      @KevsElectricalWorkshop  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheap no you pay for the label, these are the Apple of the hair styling world, Authorised service centres dont exist if its out of warranty your out of luck hence why there is so many people repairing them.
