Timely topic Mike. Perfect for spring tuneup and checks. Tire pressure, tire conditions, oil, and controls I check before every ride - it’s my OCD. T-CLOCS inspections need to be accomplished regularly. Thanks Mike for the reminder and safety brief. Stay safe brother.
I use a tender all the time, if i'm not riding and the bike is in the garage it's on the tender, just replaced my battery, got 5 years out of the original battery. Good video.
Am picking up a new (used) Harley-Davidson next month, and a work like this goes down as a "must-have" with regard to the before-I-get-started checklist. Thank you VERY much for taking the time to do this, and will be looking back for more insight and fun. Again, all appreciations.
Great video. When I bought my wife’s sportster 1200 I was told by the dealer to plug the battery in all the time when the bike is sitting. He had one battery last 10 years by doing this and I’ve always done this with all my bikes. We’ve had the XL1200 now for 5 years and haven’t replaced the battery.
from bikes I've owned to bike I've sold, one BIG thing I ALWAYS see, old brake fluid, brake fluid sucks up some moisture, usually should be changed every 2 years or something around there...more people should see this video, I'm a maintence freak as you know, this video has good info...takes what 30 minutes to check a bike once or twice a year, or hope nothing fails or worse.
Hey Man Mountain Mike, good reminder vid. Just because a tire is new does not mean it doesn’t have a manufacturing flaw or you run over something that damaged the tire. Check it out. Also don’t forget about fork fluid changes and brake fluid flush. Wheel bearings go bad. Try and wobble your tires from side to side. The TMPS Mike mentioned is a great safety feature that I need to add to my own bike. Thanks for the reminder Man Mountain Mike and with proper maintenance, you can keep on riding. I’m out for now. Y’all peace out.
Good points, I don't flush fluids every spring but I do check them. I had bearing go out and seize to the wheel. it was the one time my Harley had to be trailered home from a breakdown....
Sorry to hear about that bad luck brother. Getting trailered or tow trucked off the side of the road is a really empty feeling. I been there and done that more than once…especially with my 75 shovel head. Thanks for nothing AMF.
Didn't check the shifter on both of my bikes. The shifter on my FJ1200 was so loose it almost fell off and the chain tightener had been done all wrong. While riding my Super Glide on Bear Butte Road the toe part of the shifter fell off!!! I didn't realize it until I was halfway down to Junction Ave!!!! Fortunately the Sturgis H-D dealer had one on hand and 15 minutes later was done replacing it. T-CLOCS inspection would have been a big benefit for both bikes.
My 98 vstar drained the battery it had a draw .... if I rode it alot no problem but if it sat for a few days it was dead .... this video is a great it's a pre trip video for motorcycles like for driving the semi pre trip inspection .......
Thanks,I beat you to checking everything you mentioned,I just spent 450.00 to check it all and got brand new tires,, but you're right about doing what you said for a safe ride.
That happened to me with battery in mine (95 efi Electraglide) the bike would spit and sputter and have difficulty starting. Come to find out the after market battery I purchased at a local metric shop would not screw in properly, the terminals had no way to keep a screw in. So I went and purchased an oem battery at my hd dealer. No problem since and easily connected and screwed in tight
How true, my buddy and I was cleaning our bikes and I got mine cleaned and finished and pulled up to park. Low and behold I put my kickstand down and walla!! I did'nt clean my kickstand and boot.
Really Great information Man, not to long ago, I was riding my 1989 Sporty in my local Big Box store, and some how broke the Side Stand Spring, (I found the spring, Hook-end broke-off) anyway, I carry a hand full of Zip-Ties so when that spring jumped off, I used a zip-tie to hold-up the stand. I didn't pull it real tight, just tight enough to slip over the end of the Side Stand so I only needed to use one Zip-Tie, before getting a new spring.
Good information. I now check every fastener on the bike after my handlebar clamp got loose after going over miles of tar snakes at 60 miles an hour. Thought somebody pushed both my mirrors, but it was the bars dropped (rotated) a bit. LUCKY that time 😬
Batteries are definitely expensive. I own seven motorcycles, the oldest is my 1949 EL Panhead, and the newest is my 2018 Ural gear-up and of course I can't ride them all, all the time. So any bikes that aren't being ridden are on trickle chargers.
Great info and a reminder to check your bike before a long trip. Will definitely save you money by taking preventative measures. See you next week brother✌🤘
Tires: 2018 Street Glide Special, less than 500 miles (I know!). Anyway, someone mentioned motorcycle tires should be replaced after 5 years regardless of mileage. Thoughts?
I don't know that I would argue with them but I know if the tires look fine (No signs of cracking or splitting, don't leak air, etc.. I would ride them. I just got a used Dyna and tires on it are probably 10 years old or more and I am going to try and get thru the summer on them before replacing them. Garage vs exposed to sunlight matters too.
Question for you - you have the Factory mag wheels like I have. What type of Valve stem are you Using with the Tire Air Monitor ? Dealer said the Steel Stems will not work on those wheels I have been afraid of Tire Monitor usage because of the "Rubber stem will Flex " ! Battery on Tender is a Great Idea ! In Battery Bolts Usage of Outer Star Washers will keep Battery Bolts Coming Loose !!! Good Video the Keep up Good Work !
in 1997 , i bought a new Suzuki Marauder from tampa powerspoerts. came with a yuasa battery from suzuki. that battery lasted 8 years and was reliable till it quit. standard lead acid .nothing special. i think i was because i rode it every day . since then can't get 2 years out of a battery . iv'e tried agm and name brands. 2 yrs max. im gona measure output voltage of my bike and see if it is the culprit or just baytery tech went backwards.
I am horrified by some of the bikes I see running around here. Little to no maintenance. Bald tires, brakes that don't work. Wiring that is shotty at best. An they wonder why I don't ride with them on weekends. Being on a bike is dangerous enough without having to worry about the bike in front of me having parts fall off.
Wow, never, seen shit like this, coo if you own a led sled, hmm, i own a Zx14r Ninja, welds, engine, all wiring, 9 years, Ninja Plastic covers, just wax, hmm dont vibrate, goes 190 mph, battery dont go low, dont have all the shit harley does, no body wants to still a Ninja, lol, loner bike, me and the hyway😎
Never heard of Tclocs, but all of those points are good reminders to check, There's nothing better than a tight smooth running bike. Thanks !

Dude, Real advice folk! This brother is looking out for the cycle community! Thanks for sharing your concerns and views with us, greatly appreciated!
Great advice we discuses this when i was with FORR go over pointers. Tires are #1

Great system of check points. Not gonna miss much with that one.

Good information Mike! Come springtime we are all excited to get back on our bikes but we need to get all those safety checks done!
Great reminder as we move into the riding season here in the Midwest. Thanks Mike. Ride safe and enjoy. 👊✌️👍

Excellent information, and I love that dolly you showed us..👍💯

I try and do it really well at the beginning of the season and then a quick check every month.

Thanks, I check my bike over every ride, but I have never checked for frame cracks, I will be checking the Today.
The kickstand is probably the most neglected on that list.
Yeah, checklist help you not forget the little things!

LUCKY that time 😬
I used to not worry about a torque wrench, but after my last street bike, every nut and bolt it gets used.
Great info 👍 as we all know we can overlook things.
I bought the fobo 2 tpms, and luv it!😊

I’m running factory wheels and rubber stems and I have ran them in the rubber factory stem for 9,000 miles no issues.
@Riding in the Ozarks , only problem is If it Breaks , Boom Air All Sudden is Gone , Not a Slow Leak.
@@donaldcross7978 true but if you watch my video on the system they don’t weigh much more than a steel valve stem cap.
Great topic 👍👍👍

I been doing pretty good on yuasa.
Where can I buy that jack? That’s exactly what I need
There is a link in the description look for let’s roll link
Good info for weekend posers who only ride on sunny sundays. Common sense for a biker.
CHECK THE GROUND WIRES .
Is there an app for this maintenance stuff?
Just the checklist but that’s a great idea
thxx

Leaky Harley! Lol doesn't surprise me!!
60k miles on my 2016 never leaked a drop…
Isn't a t clock what they use to tell when it is t time?
Wow. I only have 1 relay and one 30amp breaker.
Dude...where you out of? Have a commercial shop?
I only work on my own but a friend of mine works on bikes on the side, In South Central MO.
I believe you
