Sensus Fidelium, ArchBishop Fulton Sheen, Wolrd on Fire, Real Crusades History, Ascencion Presents and, obviously, Divine Mercy Channel and so on, many youtube channels with videos of catholic and faith formation, try to use your time of gaming to study the faith and to watch those channels instead.

I'm 35 too and I'm not gonna lie - I still love playing video games. But the closer I get to God, the less desirable gaming becomes. I still play, but not as often as I used to. There is goodness and beauty in temporal things, even in (some) videogames, and as Catholics we can appreciate what is good and beautiful without being attached to those things. I've always felt a certain degree of embarrassment for being a gamer, but watching videos like this and reading these comments makes me feel a little better about being a Catholic gamer! ^_^

This was an excellent video! I wish I was that strong in my faith when I was a kid. I’m going to be 37 this year and have just started to really dig into my faith.
I have also been in love with video games since I was very young and am a collector and have many older games and consoles. I just don’t have the time anymore with two young kids and a third on the way. I mostly stick to retro arcade style games because they are simple, fun, and can be played for short periods of time. I used to be heavy into very long RPGs with long stories, but really don’t have the time for those anymore.
I’m hoping my kids will get into them as well so we can possibly bond over them.
I think this video just gave me the push I need to really downsize my collection and purge some of the games I own that may fall under Benedict’s recommendation.
Thanks Father Chris, love the videos!

I don't want to be scrupulous but I have noticed a change for the better and have not felt any loss. I am amazed at the deluge on the internet of prayer cenacles, podcasts, talks by priests, bishops, and religious living and dead which are available anytime day or night. Praise be to God I have joined and listened and read the work of many of the above.

I’ve been gaming a lot when I was younger, now I sometimes don’t play for a couple of weeks. While I’m playing mostly violent games like Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto, I’m quite sure they don’t alter how I view the world and or people. What I’m sometimes thinking about though is if committing sins in the game might also count towards our own sin count. Like for example shooting a car driver in GTA because he hit your car. On one side it’s a computer, not a real human, but on the other side you’re committing an act out of anger and hate.

    • @gaitanexpress3971
      @gaitanexpress3971 หลายเดือนก่อน

Dear brother, remember that we should abstain from all types of games that implicate violence because it's not normal to entertain ourselves with a game that foments it. Jesus invites us to love. Some weeks ago I was asking the lord for confirmation for not playing videogames, and this is what it appeared in my bible: Assyria looked like a ferocious lion:
He killed and tore his enemies to pieces,
      then he took his wealth
and he distributed them among his people.
      Nobody invaded their territory.
But where is his power now?
      Where are your fierce soldiers?
This is very similar to what we do in violent games. We steal, kill, and destroy, just as the devil. Take that risk of abandoning these games, so that you can experience plenty of life.

To add to this sure I'm a year late to the party 😅 as a Catholic and gamer i wanted to chime in. Games can provide some virtual insight. From around the age of 8yrs i wanted to be a sniper in the military, when i was 14 i was playing Medal of honour Frontline (world war 2 first person shooter) and one particular stage i always loved equipping the sniper rifle. One soldier would always be sitting near a campfire looking kind of emotionally down, this one particular occassion i went to pull the trigger, but hesitated as i had the thought "What if this was real and he had a family?" So i sat there contemplating. Realising by hesitating and finding having the revelation that i value human life and can empathise with an enemy, i can't become a sniper.
Since then (2003) i walked away from that childhood dream of becoming a sniper.
As i said, games can bring insight into matters, recently i played yakuza 3 and the protagonist has walked away from the Yakuza and is trying to raise children in an orphanage. There's disagreements and falling outs between the kids so Kiryu (protagonist) has to help resolve the conflict in a calm manner. Now i mentioned that because as a guy; my father passed away when i was 5, so i didn't really have tgat fatherly influence on how to behave like a man and resolve conflicts, seeing this virtual role play of solving conflict made it click for me.
On the other hand, recently gamers (on the right and middle) have been put into a bad light due to how they've been reacting to Matt Walsh's converage on woke ideologies in video games, this stems from Matt Walsh back in 2018 saying that it's a problem that kids spend hours playing these violent video games. Gamers really didn't take to kindly to that and that bad blood has resurfaced. Matt Walsh even hyperbolically and satirically took the mickey out of anime and expanded on that drama when people were offended by his remarks that anime is satanic by saying "Adolf Hitler was an anime fan".
Why do i mention this, because as Fr Chris Alar points out in his conclusion that these forms of entertainment can consume us, doing things in moderation (in order to be detached) etc and what I've seen from gamers who make comics, tv, games thier whole source of living when that medium is criticised they lack the comprehension to realise the arguments being made. They become so consumed by it that it's actually destroying thier ability to rationalise. Connected to this, i recently had one of matt Walsh's detractors take issue matt Walsh's stance on anime being satanic, despite me pointing out that some anime is actually based off of eastern spiritualism and demonology to the point where it overglorifies the power of demons and the issue of oversexuslising women is exposing viewers to the spirit of lust, it's abundantly clear that Matt Walsh is justified in his comment even though he was being hyperpolic is branding the whole genre as satanic, of course the detractor couldn't comprehend that viewpoint because they were so engrossed in that medium. So a healthy level of detachment from these things should also be advised, otherwise like many secular gamers out there it becomes an idol.

There was the one Simpson's episode where the one program the kids on the show were watching was made 'less violently graphic.' The next scene showed the children all walking outside, riding bikes, and playing games and enjoying the outdoor life. Yes we have some of the best technological inventions ever. But the kids are missing out on something really important. Limit games with kids? That sounds counterproductive. Unless you have a discussion beforehand with them and then go out with the kids into the world and show them what is really important in play, and experience.

  • @lumpichu

I used to love playing video games. At one time, I decided to stop it altogether partially as a form of penance and sacrifice (I didn't see enough of it at all in my life and felt I could do it) and partially because I also realized how wordly the whole entertainment thing is and it leads from God and usually - at least the serious ones I liked to play like RPGs usually involve more or less of sinful content. I no longer could stand it, even a little of it. So now it it's not really a sacrifice, because they mostly disgust me. Maybe I'm scrupulous, but I don't think it's God's will for me to return to it. It also saves money better spent elsewhere, because keeping the hardware capable playing videogames well isn't cheap. Currently, I don't have time for it anyway. To be honest, sometimes it still is a sacrifice and temptation comes, when a good sequel of video game series I loved to play comes out, but not often.

@@hanmirz4803 Thank you but it was only halted because there was a faulty translation that was very incorrect into Italian by an Italian nun. It is the church's moral obligation if something appears to go against scripture and tradition to not allow it. And at one point this appeared to because there was a faulty translation. Once the translation was accurately corrected and professionally done, it paved the way for complete acceptance, her canonization, and the institution of the feast of Divine Mercy. Also, it goes hand in hand with the Rosary because the Rosary is like the first part of the Mass, the liturgy of the word, we meditate on scripture. I think the problem is that in the current Babylon that we live in, we can't really live the way God wants us to live. I think he would rather we do reading / studying / fishing / farming/ walking/ talking / interacting/ etc, instead of playing video games or watching tv, but we. for the most part, live in really spaced out cities and it's overly expensive to meet up with people you know. I'm thinking the peasant farmers of the medieval times had the most holy lives. They tilled the soil, were allowed to raise their own animals for the their own use, were fruitful and multiplied after marriage, had families and friends, and went to mass and pilgrimages to holy sites . Now none of that is easy to do in this age of Babylon.

I would say watching TV is ok as long as it’s “Living Divine Mercy” on EWTN.

With the same amount of money I wasted in video games, I could have moved to a city in order to be able to attend Latin Mass. God help me!

My son that's an atheist, let's my grandchildren play live action video games. I've shown my displeasure but I have no power over it. Already against his wishes I have taught my young grandchildren to pray especially the rosary. I even have bought them rosaries, now we're making rosaries out of some of my more precious beads with sterling chain. (I am/was a jeweler) I've semi retired to care for my grandchildren and homeschool them. (even though my son said jokingly) I don't want my kids going to Catholic school. Do you have any advice for me to get them to not play as much? My 6 year old granddaughter was being flirted with, by a strange man in one gave called Fort Night. I'm terrified for them mentally, physically and most importantly spiritually.

    Amen Father Cris
Video games not sins. But if forget to pray or go to Holy mass because of video games that is a big mortal sin.
To all catholic gamers you need to go Holy mass every sunday and on Holy days of obligations before playing videogames,
We must always remember Faith in God and His Holy Catholic Apostolic Church are the most important than video games,

Whenever I play a game I invite God to be with me as I play and I also ask permission to God first before I play so that I am still aware of God's presence. I don't know if this is a good thing or not, help me.
    Btw, I play COC, I don't think it's violent...

I play with my son ( 5yrs old) for about 20 min every few days.
One of our little bonding moments. He is pretty respectful of the limits so that is why I like to play with him. We have fun together
