Aretha's voice in the mid 80s was quite a step down from what it once was even though she was still an incredible vocalist. George Michael worked with her in 1987 and declared that she was the only one he wanted to work with because she was the best in the business. I'm paraphrasing but the point is we can all find opinion to back up our own. Aretha and Whitney at their very best were the standard of greatness for their generation.
