I’ve heard Jenny say she doesn’t think it’s very good. I disagree. I love all her stuff but there was something really special about how they took a kids show and made it sarcastic and hilarious and still kind of stayed true to the original characters. I never get tired of watching these.

A lot of the jokes still hit and the humor is so subtle that it makes the more bold parts (twilight's non biologically related brother-lover) amazingly absurd. I love it. And you've hit the nail, it literally doesn't feel out of character at all. I think Jenny or anyone looking back on their old art would have a lot of negative reflections about it, it's just kind of how it is with artists. FiW is still my favourite thing to come out of the MLP, like they didn't have to go this hard but they did, and you feel every drop of effort.

This again reframes to me how young I was when I entered this extremely adult fandom back in its glory days lol. 9/10 year old me really had no business being this heavily invested in the fandom but I wouldn't go back and change it. MLP seems to be having a fandom revival and that makes me really happy. I'm glad the love for FiW is still strong today.

I really miss the prime of this fandom. Season 1-2 was great, lots of talented and creative people back then. The constant Copyright strikes from Hasbro really killed a lot of cool content that came from the fans of that show. Its sad really.
Wouldn't trade those memories for anything. It may have been only a fairly short amount of time but during those two season I met plenty of friends who I still talk to on a regular basis. Its just sad to see what it became. MLP was always meant as a show to sell kids toys, but it never seemed to sacrifice the quality of its writing or characters to do it. I don't think I can confidently claim that anymore.
However i do agree on somethings you said however you must remember that this is their property What would you do if you own a popular cartoon and people doing stuff to it and misleading the brand.

Its interesting to interpret "Toss a fig and save the date" may have double significations: "put in a (dried) fig as a sweetener so you dont need to use the dried date" "throw away something menial(as in : it's not worth a fig) and first thing save(record) the date(referring to something of importance in contrast)

I think that this song is about Pinkie wanting to go back in time to save her parents from whatever happened from them in the past. Her parents know that Pinkie can't bear the sadness if they died, so they saved a recording about how they want her to move on and accept their deaths. But Pinkie still wanted to make a portal so she can save them. It's like Gypsy Bard. In Gypsy Bard is about how her parents have died and she was shipped off to the orphanage. The orphanage told Pinkie to forget about her parents to fit in, so she dug graves and danced with orphan foals in the grave. Pinkie mentioned that when you're feeling sad, listen to the song and it'll make you happy because her gypsy magic hypnotizes you to being happy. Well... That's pretty dark...

When you think about it, pinkie has no choice then to hide behind a mask of happiness. Her parents gave up on her and when she looked for them, they died. Her sister never cared about her. She was abandoned and misstreated. She is closing of her self from everypony because with out her mask, she fells vulnerable. Idk just thought I'd share

I know nothing about friendship is witchcraft and very little about my little pony itself, yet I've fallen in love with this song and have listened to it on repeat for these past few weeks!
I never really watched this when it came out but I’ve been going through some of the more common FiW stuff recently just to experience it. Jenny Nicholson said she packed this series with references to Disney’s adaptation of Hunchback of Notre Dame. The references are in the littlest places! It’s a completely random subject to incorporate into the plot but every Hunchback reference does make me crack up.
Still... still coming back to this. I've have this song stuck in my head after years of not hearing it. And suddenly I thought about it and it hasn't been more than a day or two I go without listening to it in my playlist... that and Bard.
I’m late to this fandom and it’s so interesting learning who was apart of it. I had no idea Fandroid and Jenny Nicolson were involved with Friendship is Witchcraft! Really makes the world feel small when multiple TH-cam channels I’ve been watching for years all to work together.

Unpopular opinion: I still love this fandom. Sure, it’s not the same as it was back in 2011-13, and a lot of people have left, but a lot of great people have stayed, too. There are still many of us who have stuck with it since the beginning (or since we started watching) and are still dedicated. The ones who are still here are very tight-knit, and there are still people making awesome fan projects. I agree that the show was a little iffy in seasons 6 and 7, but I believe 8 was a bit better, and now that we’re in I last season, I feel that it’s gonna go out with a bang. Even long after the show has ended, the fandom will still be here. And who knows, maybe G5 will be even better (though I kinda doubt it, lol).
I don't think it's that unpopular an opinion. I've been here since 2012 (in the fandom, not literally in these comments :D ) and like you say, the people who are still around are often those who really, really like MLP. Many of those who were in it for the lulz'n'memes drifted away years ago. I actually liked S7 quite a bit, but that's personal opinion of course. S9 is seeming solid so far, I think. :)

I think that this song is about Pinkie wanting to go back in time to save her parents from whatever happened from them in the past.
Her parents know that Pinkie can't bear the sadness if they died, so they saved a recording about how they want her to move on and accept their deaths. But Pinkie still wanted to make a portal so she can save them.
It's like Gypsy Bard. In Gypsy Bard is about how her parents have died and she was shipped off to the orphanage. The orphanage told Pinkie to forget about her parents to fit in, so she dug graves and danced with orphan foals in the grave. Pinkie mentioned that when you're feeling sad, listen to the song and it'll make you happy because her gypsy magic hypnotizes you to being happy.

They were so mad and disappointed in my parents for giving me an MLP themed birthday party, and talking about how it’s witchcraft and magic. And right now I’m remembering exactly what they said,”there’s a secret hidden version, with its real name ‘friendship is witchcraft’” when my mom and I were like, ‘ohhh haha no that’s probably something else’ he said “don’t believe me? When you think about it, pinkie has no choice then to hide behind a mask of happiness. Her parents gave up on her and when she looked for them, they died. Her sister never cared about her. She was abandoned and misstreated.

I never really watched this when it came out but I’ve been going through some of the more common FiW stuff recently just to experience it. Jenny Nicholson said she packed this series with references to Disney’s adaptation of Hunchback of Notre Dame. The references are in the littlest places! It’s a completely random subject to incorporate into the plot but every Hunchback reference does make me crack up.

Unpopular opinion: I still love this fandom. Sure, it’s not the same as it was back in 2011-13, and a lot of people have left, but a lot of great people have stayed, too. There are still many of us who have stuck with it since the beginning (or since we started watching) and are still dedicated. The ones who are still here are very tight-knit, and there are still people making awesome fan projects. I agree that the show was a little iffy in seasons 6 and 7, but I believe 8 was a bit better, and now that we’re in I last season, I feel that it’s gonna go out with a bang. Even long after the show has ended, the fandom will still be here. And who knows, maybe G5 will be even better (though I kinda doubt it, lol).
I don't think it's that unpopular an opinion. I've been here since 2012 (in the fandom, not literally in these comments :D ) and like you say, the people who are still around are often those who really, really like MLP. Many of those who were in it for the lulz'n'memes drifted away years ago. I actually liked S7 quite a bit, but that's personal opinion of course. S9 is seeming solid so far, I think. :)
Now that I’ve gone back and watched it again, I think S7 is actually better than 8 (6 is still a mixed bag, though).
