I’ve just discovered these and got my first one (the small green one) and I am in LOVE! I collect vintage BB games and am so excited to see that they’re still making toys like this. Awesome stuff!
My friend just got me a Perplexus Beast and I absolutely love it! Such a great way to zone out and relax. I really appreciate you making this video since I wanted to see which were the better ones to buy. I just ordered the Perplexus Portal after watching your video. You earned a sub and I hope they keep making cool new mazes. Thanks again!
Welcome aboard! I hope you'll stick around even though I do a bunch of non perplexus stuff too! I agree that they're such a great toy and challenge to help you pass the time. The Portal is absolutely awesome, but I would not sleep on any of the other top 10 picks either! I'm also looking forward to more great mazes in the future!
Thank you for this excellent summary review of the Perplexus world. Just found out about these and now I know which ones to go for (first). Great work! Big thank you from Sweden.
This shows a global trend with which I almost agree (which are average, good, excellent...). And I also think the 3 best ones are Death Star, Portal and Epic (although they are not the ones I would recommend to a beginner player due to their difficulties^^). Excellent video.
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it! I do agree it seems to be a pretty broad consensus that these are the best perplexuses too, I'm a little surprised the basically everyone feels the same.
Yes, I’d agree that the Portal and Epic are the best Perplexuses I’ve ever played with, but I still don’t understand how you find the Portal easier than the Epic when it only has two additional checkpoints (Epic has three) and is 25 obstacles longer. I can see why you might think that (most of the time it’s just that you need to take it easy and not just keep doing stunts) but I always find myself getting further in my Epic than my Portal.
I guess maybe less frustrating would be a better description than easier? It is longer and less checkpoints but it feels way more balanced to me. I completed it wayyy faster than I completed the Epic and there were no spots where I got super stuck or frustrated on the Portal like I do on the Epic, so that's why I see it as easier overall.
Great video! You clearly know your perplexuses - I just completed the Rubik’s Hybrid 2x2 and found it really fun if a bit frustrating and was curious what other people thought, and yours was one of the first that came up. I’m interested to hear what you think of it
I am in love with moving or complex components/obstacles. By moving, I mean swinging cups, gondolas, or all those weighted ones. By complex, I mean tubes, holes, and straight up windiness that makes everything almost 4-D. Combine those and you get 80-90 on perplexus epic. I love that part
Thank you so much for making this ranking video. It helps me decide which ones not to buy. You are a great reviewer. Personally, I would recommend people to buy the Original as a starter and save their money with the Rookie.
I Got the Perplexus Snitch, and the Epic, beat the Snitch, the Epic is Frustrating though, I am using the checkpoints and am at the level 56 checkpoint, and have reached 77 as my furthest. I just need to keep practicing it though! Also have only had the Epic for 2 days, so not to worried. I will get it in time
I totally agree with your top three, though Portal I have yet to play with (hopefully winging its way here right now!), Death Star is just a little bit too difficult, with all the difficulty packed into the central third of the path - the three or four real-awkward moves have held me up so many times, that jump-and-drop and the no-wall section! But, I am appalled to hear you say that you haven't yet beat Epic - come on, get your mind off Lego and concentrate on Epic over Christmas! It is telling though, isn't it, how most of your top ten were designed by one man, Michael McGinnis. He really is a genius at designing these games, I wish I had a home and pockets large enough to own one of his enormous sculpture games! Rebel is not difficult, for most of us hardened Perplexus-players, it's really easy, but it IS fun and fast, I actually like to play it at a very slow even speed, making the ball move as beautifully smoothly as possible. I do think you ought to pick up a Tiger Superplexus at some point, it's much heavier and plays, I think, nicer than the Original, but that's just my opinion. Let's enjoy Portal and all the others as we go, and fingers crossed for the next challenge!! Thanks for the video, I agree wholeheartedly with all your choices.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! See the response to this video has been great! It was a little daunting at first just because it is such a big video and long too lol but I really didn't want to break it up in to parts either. I'm really happy with how it turned out though, because it definitely took a while to put it all together. I'm also quite surprised at how much people seem to agree with these rankings lol. I was expecting at least a few contrarians but I guess it goes to show the best Perplexuses really are the best ones and there's not much question about it. I agree it is very clear that McGinnis is the master when it comes to designing these things and I'm so glad he's still at it. I would like to clarify though. I have beaten the Epic, several times now. What I haven't done is beat it start to finish without using the checkpoints. Something I have done for every Perplexus except my top 3 which also happen to be the biggest. I am probably going to give that a go over Christmas nonetheless!
@@RCInsight When I'm not working on the laptop or gardening, I try to complete one of the games, so that I'll have completed them all in one day - Epic generally stalls this idea, but I'll keep going, they are a great distraction game. I view Epic as being reasonably (for us experienced players) easy in the first half, but much harder second-half, I love some of the moves, the stairs, the awesome drop to that tunnel, the zip-line sequence, that raised-level ziggy-zaggy bit, the no-wall bit to the see-saw, the amazing final drop three moves from the end - you get so used to doing them that you forget how difficult they are! I hope MM comes up with another Snitch-sized game soon - anything from him is more than welcome. The marketing is so poor by Spinmaster, they are virtually non-existent over here. Thanks again for the videos, I do refer back to them sometimes, and doing one that long is a challenge to make. Your studio set-up for the visuals is fine, your audio as well. top three for difficulty? Well, 1 Death Star 2 Epic 3 Portal... who knows!
@@AlanDoel That is indeed my top 3 for hardest right now. I'd want to put twist after that but it has so many legit checkpoints so... idk will have to play through all of them. Actually as I say this, I do know 2x2 rubiks hybrid. It might even break in to that top 3 honestly. And completely agree, I wish the spinmaster marketing was better!
Hi, this video introduced me to Perplexus for the first time ever (the TH-cam algorithm sent me here). Which Perplexus would you recommend for me? (please take into account that I have dozens of extremely difficult twisty puzzles [Rubik's cubes etc.] that I solve on a regular basis.)
Hi there, Sorry for the delayed reply. I'm honestly not sure. I have another video, which is ranking all the perplexus from easiest to hardest, that may help give you some additional insight. I'd say any of the mainline puzzles that are currently still available for retail would be a good place to start. That would be the rookie/rebel, the original/beast, the epic or the portal. Starting with the Epic or the Portal might be a bit much just because of the scale and difficulty, but if you're used to puzzles and dexterity toys then it might be ok. Personally I'd start with the Rebel. Yes it's easy and you'll probably beat it in a day but it's still one of my favourites and I have fun with it to this day (10 years later) it'll help you get the ropes and then figure out if you think you can tackle some of the bigger ones like the epic no problem. That would be my advice. (ultimately if you have a lot of fun with it you'll probably end up wanted to collect most if not all of them anyway lol)
@@RCInsight Thanks for the insight, I actually ordered yesterday the Portal and an off-brand 158 obstacles "Maze Ball". I watched many of your videos on the Perplexus (including the difficulty ranking), they really helped inform me about this kind of puzzle.
Thank you so much for this video! I just discovered Perplexuses today while browsing Amazon for maze balls for my 6 yr old. He loves mazes (on paper) but we’ve never tried one of these 3d puzzles before. I’m thinking of getting him a perplexus go spiral to start, but do you think it’d be too challenging for a 6 yr old?
I think it depends on which spiral you’re talking about. The mini spiral or the GO! Spiral. The mini spiral for sure is super easy and I don’t think that would be a problem. GO! Spiral he may find challenging but it really depends. I also loved 2D mazes when I was that age and I think I got my first Perplexus at 8. That would’ve been the Perplexus original and it was challenging (took me months to complete at first) but I loved it. If he has good hand eye coordination and patience, even if it’s challenging then I think really any Perplexus is fine. So long as he can handle to frustration of failure and be able to put it down and come back to it then I don’t think you’ll have any issues.
The ones I play the most are the green go! (despite how short it is it has nice challenges) and the rebel (it’s the easiest, but very satisfying and introduces several Classic obstacles). The Original has way too many sections without a rail from the third checkpoint on. The Epic is very challenging, but some obstacles (esp those where you have to turn the globe 180° very fast) are downright mean. I also have the rubik 2x2 but I find it way too challenging. It is hard enough to find the path, so I don’t find it very playable
I agree with most of this! I definitely often find myself coming back to the perplexus GO!'s and the rookie. The rookie is absolutely the most satisfying to just pick up and play through on a whim even though it's pretty easy overall. Finding the path for the 2x2 is definitely it's biggest drawback. It's an interesting puzzle but finding the path is a nightmare. I literally have the whole thing mapped out in my notes and still struggle with it. Mapping it took forever as well.
I agree completely! It took me so long to make my own cheat sheet it was a nightmare. I am probably going to finish it illegitimately in the next few days just for the sake of reviewing it. Walkthrough is probably still a ways away though.
Amazing video! now I'm ready to start my own collection with the best models. -- Just a question please, does anybody know if the new EPIC is a little different to the old model? the colours are different,...but I guess there might be some more differences since the new ORIGINAL - now called BEAST - is not exactly the same as the classic one.
I can't say for sure since I don't have a newer version of the epic, but my assumption is it would be nothing more than a reskin and maybe it possibly addresses issues older versions may have had. I know with the Original for example, there's one section where mine is missing a wall so you can easily jump more than halfway ahead on the maze, but newer versions, even before it was rebranded to beast fixed that issue. So if there were any changes with the current version of the epic, I'd suspect they're hardly noticeable.
My perplexus beast has a problem where the first obstacle after checkpoint 3 is slightly smaller that the marble so the only way to make it through is to give the ball a jolt usually launching the ball off the track is that common?
Hoping to do a sharper image vs perplexus video sometime soon! It's not an official Perplexus model so it didn't make this list but I have covered it on the channel.
I have only just got in to perplexus. I currently only have one. The green go. I love it just wish it was bigger. I am thinking of buying a bigger one. I am looking at the rebel or the beast. I am leaning towards the rebel but I was wondering if it is too easy. I would like a bit of a challenge. What do you think?
Personally I would go for the Rebel. It is a little easier but I think it is so much better than the original. Ultimately you'll probably end up getting both anyway, since you'll beat one and then want the other after loll. But I'd say Rebel and also the Harry Potter Golden Snitch is a decent challenge compared to the other go balls, but it is still on the shorter side.
They're not my favourites but they're decent. I'd argue they display better than they play, so I suppose it comes down to why you want them in the first place.
My childhood friend had a perplexus beast and I always came to him to play with it but one day the metal ball just vanished.. He still has it but the ball is gone
It's been awhile since I've played or thought of a lot of these so I don't have much to comment on your placements but I really enjoyed the video and it makes me happy seeing content made for one of my favorite niches. I'm curious since you mentioned it, what's your best time for 1-70 on Rookie? That's definitely one of my favorites to speedrun especially with it being almost 8 years since I did my first run of it.
I'm glad you enjoyed it and I'm glad I can still come up with Perplexus content after all these years, even if it's only a video or two a month. If I recall correctly, I think I had done a timed run around 1:52 however I'm not sure if that's way off or not so I'll have to give it another stab over Christmas. I just checked to speedrun.com to get a sense of how fast other ppl have completed it and it would seem you have a very very solid run time! I will give it another speedrun shot over Christmas though and follow up on this comment cuz you have piqued my interest on this again!
@@RCInsight 1:52 is not bad and I'm confident you could beat that. Thank you btw, I've put a little too much time into speedrunning some of these lol, looking forward to seeing what time you end up with.
Ok so I just did a super casual speedrun (as in, not at all good, first speedrun attempt in years) and it clocked in around 1:30 so 1:52 is definitely way slow. If I had to guess my best was probably closer to a minute, but idk if I've ever hit a sub 1 minute run.
Technically the cascading cups and spiral are both titled "mini" even though they're not particularly small. That's probably what I was referring to with mini. However, the world's smallest perplexus's are also quite literally mini so it's possible (but less likely) that was what I was referring to.
@@RCInsight well I have a worlds smallest, but you mentioned there was one you would like to have and u kept calling it the A-mini and that they were impossible to find nowadays. Which one was that?
@@Flockingtheherd ohh, the a~mini! is technically not even a perplexus, it predates perplexus but was designed by the same guy and only released in Japan. It was sorta a pilot to the perplexus and I actually just recently missed a chance to grab one and was very disappointed. But yea, it's a special one that's not technically a perplexus.
Sorry for the delayed reply! I've been away on vacation lol. Personally, I think the Perplexus GO! Spiral and Stairs as well as the Rebel would be my starting point for an introduction into Perplexus. If you find those a breeze, then really anything else in the top 10, the Beast, Epic, Death Star, Portal and so on, are all great options after that.
@@RCInsight don’t be sorry, also I just got the Perplexus GO! Spiral to start with, once I beat that i might go with one of the bigger versions of Perplexus that you mentioned in your top 10 list.
Awesome! I think the GO! Spiral is a great place to start and it is definitely among my favourites. I do think the Rebel is probably the way to go after that, since it's like an introduction to the larger sized puzzles in my opinion. But honestly whatever you do, I'd say it's hard to go wrong
My 6y son plays Perplexus at school, and he already managed to solve Rebel (aka Rookie). Do you suggest buying Beast (Original) first and then go to Portal, or go straight to Portal, as the Portal supersedes the Beast? P.S. Thanks for this great detailed comparison.
I'm so sorry for such a delayed response, I've been away the last little bit, if you haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet, I'd say beast or maybe a copy of the warp/twist if you can find any of those still hanging out somewhere. If you have already bought him his next one I'd love to know what you went with and how he's fared!
@@RCInsight We ordered Portal at the end. Both I and my son enjoy it, solving it when we have time and desire. Although he can't pass reliably every obstacle, he is quite good, and failures do not frustrate him.
How the freak do you find some of these anymore? I'm a big Perplexus fan but finding even some of the more recent Perplexus puzzles these days seems almost impossible to find, especially fully new, or even so much as info about them. Perplexus Twist seems as far as I can tell to just no longer even be sold by Spinmaster (thankfully I've already had mine for years) and the World's Smallest version of that I wasn't even sure existed lol, since the review photos people posted on Amazon all showed the World's Smallest _original_ instead (which I already have). And I can never find any real information anywhere, no one's talking about these even though in my opinion these are literally like top-tier toys.
Honestly don't know how to find some of them, since I was lucky to get most of them when they were first available. I did have to scour the internet for a few of them (mini twist, and keychain mini's) but thanks to a stroke of luck I managed to come across some on ebay. I do agree it's a shame they aren't more popular because they are definitely top tier toys. Maybe one day they'll explode for some unknown reason!
@@RCInsight Yeah, hopefully. They're also probably the closest physical toys I've ever come across to video games, they have a lot of the exact same appeal but are still actual toys which is great. But it's sad they've really dropped off in popularity (since I remember them once being at least somewhat popular) and are so weirdly hard to find oftentimes (even my copy of the recent Perplexus Portal I got for Christmas has a bunch of scratch marks and stuff on it, it's not in pristine "new" condition it seems, idk if that was due to rough shipping or what). After searching around for the past couple days, I will say it seems like Amazon is probably one of the worse places to look for these things, I didn't even know the Perplexus Go! Stairs one existed because it straight-up doesn't exist on Amazon (only the Spiral does, which I also got for Christmas) but is easily findable on Walmart, meanwhile on ebay I was actually able to find a fair number of options for the freaking original Superplexus from 2002.
It's funny you ask this. I had an idea for a future video that sorta had to do with this topic. Here's where my nerdy English major comes in but "perfect" is a very loaded term lol. I don't know that there could ever be a perfect perplexus and obviously what's perfect for one person isn't for another. I think at its core what I want to see in a perplexus though is a large puzzle (think epic or death star or portal) good obstacle design, where it still feels challenging but none of the obstacles feel like they're solely luck based. And lastly just overall solid game design and aesthetics. Those are kinda the combination of things that would make the best perplexus imo
FOR ME THE WORST PERPLEXUS IN THE WORLD ARE THE PERPLEXUS TWIST AND THE SMALLEST PERPLEXUS TWIST👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎 IF ANYONE AGREE WITH ME, PLEASE, LIKE THIS COMMENT

What about the sharper image? Also known as the space one I think. (Its red and black)
@@RCInsight thank you. Rebel it is. Great advice
Do you recommend getting the perplexus mini.
They're not my favourites but they're decent. I'd argue they display better than they play, so I suppose it comes down to why you want them in the first place.
what about the perplexes rookie?
I have the Death Star version
What do you mean when you say perplexes A mini? I can’t find any pictures of anything called that
Technically the cascading cups and spiral are both titled "mini" even though they're not particularly small.
What’s the best Perplexus to buy if your a beginner/new to the world of Perplexus
@@RCInsight
We ordered Portal at the end. Both I and my son enjoy it, solving it when we have time and desire. Although he can't pass reliably every obstacle, he is quite good, and failures do not frustrate him.
Where’s perplexus warp???
I’m getting portal if I can, but the only perplexus I’ve ever played was original, and I’ve only gotten to roughly 70. Do you think I should get it?
I think it's worthwhile 100% its my fav perplexus. Who cares if you can't solve it right away, I'm sure itll come with time.
Actually the number 14 has a bigger version
How come you didn’t talk about the beast
Beast and Original are the same model :)
I have #14!🎉
Боже, я не хочу иметь У СЕБЯ все эти лабиринты, но было бы классно если кто-то даст мне их поиграть, чтобы ПРОЙТИ ИХ ВСЕ😍🤤
Clearly, there is no such thing as the "perfect " perplexus. What would a perfect perplexus be like in your opinion?
I have #3
I have the original version!
It's a good video but he didn't miss one perplexus and that is the perplexus rememball from Harry Potter
Its the exact same course as the rebel/rookie just recoloured. Thats why I didn't include it :)
@@RCInsight I see thanks for informing me I don't know much about these puzzles but I have the plexus rememball
You should get it. It's very good and a very good time killer
k
I have the original 13:36
FOR ME THE WORST PERPLEXUS IN THE WORLD ARE THE PERPLEXUS TWIST AND THE SMALLEST PERPLEXUS TWIST👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
