@@HighBarReviews Interestingly enough, many times in the past Ash has been given a robotic hand. Its not too far fetched that in the far future they'd give him one.
The chainsaw and super shotgun were directly influenced by Evil Dead 2 when id Software created DOOM back in 1993. DOOM was originally going to be a licensed Aliens game, but 20th Century Studios weren't giving id Software enough creative freedom so they scrapped their deal and created DOOM.
The Preator suit is the best IMHO. I think that not showing his skin and face makes him more mysterious, almost as if he isn't human. By making him more human in Doom Eternal, they take away that "force of nature" vibe he gave of in the reboot
16:01 I mean really I can excuse his arms but if you look at him in game not only is his abdomen not exposed but if you look on the cover that part of his Armour has been scratched away hints the bloody scar on his stomach. Really I think almost every design is cool in some way and I have a hard time choosing between them.
well when you have tree trunks for arms, I don't think any suit, how much advanced it was, will be able to cover them lol. so that's hwy he has exposed arms in doom eternal.
The thing about Doom Slayer is that he doesn't *need* the Praetor Suit. Neither the old nor the new one. The lore will have it that he fought hell for years and years before being blessed by the Seraphim to continue the slaughter for eternity. The Praetor suit was given to him at a later point -- by the Wretch. It likely served the purpose of inspiring the Elite of the Sentinel army's armor pieces as they actually look noticeably 'low tech', with shotgun shells and similar on their belt. Same color palette as well. This was naturally done *after* Doom Slayer joined their ranks and became one of the highest ranked -- as noted by the orange on his right shoulder which goes again in both iterations of the Praetor suit and on artwork of the elite, uncorrupted soldiers. The suit is a throwback to the Doom Guy's suit with the exposed arms, but it's only the suit. The guy is the same man. Doom 3 would probably be one of the other dimensions they speak of.. but he IS Doom Guy as well. I wouldn't be surprised if there's references to Doom 3 in Doom Eternal in ways other than easter eggs as well. To me the Doom Slayer's suit of Doom Eternal is the coolest one. He doesn't need the protection the suit brings so weak points can be exposed and maybe having the bulk of the suit to cover those fucking tree trunk arms would make it more annoying to move around. Doom Eternal's suit has a feel of unstoppable force. I can't imagine them ever being able to top that one.
2016 is so cool it’s so mysterious, without the naked table intro you wouldn’t know his race, his body damage, if he’s ripped blah blah blah. He is just pure anger and hate towards demons. I like the new additions to the eternal version but I’d rather 2016
I like how clouded the visor is in 2016. With the lore and gameplay building him up so much not being able to see his face clearly makes him come off as a force of nature and leaves room to the imagination that anything could be under that helmet.
If you go into the Slayer's office, in the fortress, in Doom Eternal, you can see the original Praetor suit dismantled on a work bench. My personal interpretation of this is that Doomguy ripped the thing apart, trying to remove Sam's modifications (the tether from Doom 2016), and what he has now is a somewhat cobbled together (advanced cobbling), good enough, replacement. So, yes, 2016 suit is a better design. It was presumably created by Sentinel engineers, after all. Eternal suit is what Doomguy, Vega, and the fortress 3D printer could come up with on short notice. They added a cool wrist blade, but didn't want to wait for the arm covers to print, because weapons took priority, and we all saw how long it took to finish the ballista.
The abs weren’t exposed, The suit was torn. If you look closely there are scratches and ragged cloth. Also the other marine in the background doesn’t have exposed abs.
I agree with you here. Although the new Armor looks awesome, I prefer the 2016 version. Plus in Doom Eternal you can use the 2016 armor with the new Armblade and shoulder cannon. So that will look awesome. But I like the 2016 armor due to it's more mysterious nature, like you said. Very few parts of even his face are visible. I think I'd like the new set more if the visor was less transparent.
Doom Eternal is easily the best design for me, it's the Movie Sonic / Skylanders Crash of the Doom franchise! Also, I love the Doom franchise, it has fun games and is incredibly interesting to go through Also you forgot to mention that Doom had *a flippin' pinball machine in pinball fx for modern consoles* , it's entirely based on Doom 2016, so there's nothing new to see there besides the fact that the machine is actually very fun like it's fps counterpart
The exposed abs of the first doom was just because his t shirt was ripped, as seen if you looked closely around said exposed abs surrounding, you could see ripped clothing.
This is super true. I think the new Doom Slayer was done right in 2016, and while his 2020 design is still awesome, I really dislike his arms being exposed like they are, even if there is lore to explain it off. The only other problem with his design now, including 2016, is the visor being slightly transparent. I'd rather it be completely opaque so he can be really ambiguous and immersive like Isaac Clarke was in his first game.
The Doom Eternal devs have publicly said that the Slayer's new Praetor suit was designed to empower the player and make them feel as badass as possible. Doom has always been a power fantasy, and the new character design is supposed to reflect that idea. Personally, I like the practicality of the 2016 Praetor suit the best since it feels more in-line with what a suit of armor is supposed to do, but I understand the change nonetheless. Plus, getting to customize the Slayer kind of makes this a moot point.
Definately agree, seeing the 100% metal armor in Doom 2016 is more mysterious and omnipotent to me. The Eternal representation looks definately more badass but also like Doomguy takes it more personal, and it completely ruins the feel that I could be that guy because of such manly biceps lol
I like to think that after many attempts, a character's design reaches it's apex. Think about how many different Marios we had before he got a consistent form. I think the Doom Eternal design is the apex for this character. It's classic, it's badass, and it's more refined than we've ever seen. He has so many abilities now, he is perfect Smash Brothers material. The doom blade, the shoulder cannon, the dash, there's a lot of potential there.
As much as I love Doomguy’s Design in *DOOM ETERNAL*, I’ll always have *DOOM 2016* as my favorite since it had this slim, aesthetic, mysterious vibe. Not to mention how it revitalize *DOOM* and brought it back to the gaming industry. It’s nostalgic and just my favorite design for me
I was expecting you to go with eternal, but it was a pleasant surprise when you agreed with me about 2016's version being better. I don't like the exposed arms, and I think the mystery of the character is great. Also, the colour scheme is more pleasant, whereas eternal's colour scheme with the strange green on the bronze to brown colour, and it looks almost like doom slayer swamp edition.
I may have a reason for why the arms are exposed We saw in a video made by IGN that the 2016 suit is in peices and seems to be under construction at the moment in the fortress of doom and the slayer needed a new suit of armour The exposed arms could be for flexibility purposes due to him always running and gunning,it probably makes it easier to move his arms around
I agree, and a big factor would be how easy it is to self project onto the 2016 design and feel even more of a demon killing badass, which is a big part of doom's gameplay of that power fantasy and immersion.
I love how *D O O M* series is one of the only few game/movie series that the design changes were liked by all, but some designs were more preferred than others, per person.
I like to imagine that the exposed biceps on the slayers armor in Eternal is less of him being fearless to what he's fighting, and more his arms are just too damn big to fit into any armor for the suit.
I WOULD think the Doom Eternal suit is best, if it weren't for the predator-esque gauntlet-blade and shoulder-cannon. They're very gimmicky and don't really contribute anything. The blade even detracts in my opinion. Part of the badass appeal is how he rips and tears demons apart with his bare hands. Plus gauntlet blades are generally impractical and gimmicky
Once I found out you could play with the OG Praetor Suit, I ran through the level where you rescue Hayden to get more Sentinel Batteries and unlocked the door it was behind.
erm, btw, the new lore which is in doom 2016 states that the doom slayer was given increased strength and durability...he doesnt NEED the amour other than that it helps him harness argent energy
I personally like both 2016 and Eternal’s designs. 2016 has a more mysterious look to it and the slightly obscured face adds to the mystery of who the Doom Slayer really is. However, Eternal exudes this raw energy of “I’m about to fuck your shit up” much better than its earlier counterpart and since the identity of who the Doom Slayer had been revealed it only made sense to show more of his face.
I love all the designs, and the 2020 praetor suit looks badass to the max, but if im being a massive design dork about things id also favor the 2016 suit, because the 2020 suit's design is a bit....noisey, while i actually really like the exposed upper arms , asymmetric limb armour and changes to the helmet the addition of extra "spikey bits" , grenade launcher and retractable arm-knife makes the design just a little more cluttered than 2016's suit. Then again, the 2020 suit has more matt colours while 2016's was shiny, so again, it really is hard to say, definitely a matter of personal preference!
I agree with you, 2016's design is more practical and mysterious. In Doom 2016 we can not see his face or hear his voice. I love the idea that Doom Slayer is beyond an angry dude with super human strength. He's been through a lot, he is not human anymore. He is like a natural force of destruction for demons. I think they have lost some of that in Doom Eternal. Seeing him from outside feels weird to me. He just stands around in silence and anger, listening to other characters in a lot of cutscenes and pumps his shotgun sometimes to scare some of them. In Doom 2016 he doesn't give a shit about any character, his first reaction to Samuel Hayden was to smash the console he's been talking through. There are some moments he stands and listens in Doom 2016 too but we don't see him from outside so it doesn't feel weird.
I love the original Doomguy appearance the best, simply because it'd look right at home in a lot of the action sci-fi movies around that time like Aliens (1986), RoboCop (1987), and Starship Troopers (1997), with it's bulky armor giving it a cool and goofy charm.
Actually his new suit is actually just a modified version of his 2016 armour. If you go into his personal quarters you find the glove, helmet and torso in his workshop, meaning that he took apart the old one to build his new suit.
It can be fun to look at each skin as a different implication to the story. Start the game with the Demonic Skin: Hayden sent DoomGuy back to hell, where he fought for so long that he came back partially corrupted. Start the game with the Classic Skin: The praetor suit was damaged (found broken in the man cave), so DoomGuy had to don the old suit that feels the most comfortable to him. Start the game with the Zombie Skin: wherever DoomGuy was sent, it brutally murdered him...but he didn’t stay dead. Start the game with the Mullet Skin: DoomGuy had a breakdown, ate bags of chips and drank barrels of booze in his fortress until the invasion made him accept it was time to get back out there. Start the game with the Doomicorn Skin: the only way back to this dimension was by sacrificing a unicorn, which DoomGuy did...and had a lot of fun.
William Joseph "BJ" Blazkovicz, after the war, had a son. That son went into showbiz and took the stage name Blaze. His son in turn was named after the child's grandfather. William Blazkovicz II would sign his name "Billy Blaze". That'd be Commander Keen, and he doesn't look like he belongs because he's a child. Doomguy's canonical first name, outside of games like Doom RPG, is yet unknown but he is canonically a Blazkovicz and the grandson of Commander Keen. And yes, the Slayer is him.
I think the exposed abs were pretty cool in the original design. The abs weren't exposed by design though, a demon ripped that part off the armor. You can see how the armor would have looked like intact in Quake champions, where it allows you to customize it.
For me the 2014 reveal of the original concept design, though blocky is the definitive DOOM armor/Doom Guy/Slayer/Marine design. Very practical everything in his body is not exposed and that helmet is very cool like old scifi films.
man love your video, were you thinking of doing a similar video on halo master chief? i think what we see in the armor design from halo infinite trailer is a mix of previous one.

My headcanon is still that Ash from The Evil Dead Franchise is Doomguy. Both use a Shotgun and Chainsaw and both Fight the Undead/Demons.
But one has a hand the other doesn't
@@HighBarReviews Interestingly enough, many times in the past Ash has been given a robotic hand. Its not too far fetched that in the far future they'd give him one.
@@AgherDeadpan oh yea I forgot about that
The chainsaw and super shotgun were directly influenced by Evil Dead 2 when id Software created DOOM back in 1993. DOOM was originally going to be a licensed Aliens game, but 20th Century Studios weren't giving id Software enough creative freedom so they scrapped their deal and created DOOM.
Ash was one of the biggest influences for Doomguy, according to the classic Doom devs.
14:06 You actually do get a glimpse of his face on the HUD when you pick up powerups.
Haven't even seen the video yet but we can agree that the DOOM Eternal Design is best right?
Okay guess I have to unsubscribe now
🤣
Lmao
No
Original is better
The Preator suit is the best IMHO. I think that not showing his skin and face makes him more mysterious, almost as if he isn't human. By making him more human in Doom Eternal, they take away that "force of nature" vibe he gave of in the reboot
They're all good in there own way. They all fit the style of their respective games.
Agreed!
Except for the movies...
@@lerombus6020 Yeah, I was just thinking about the games. The movies weren't my thing.
Except Doom 3
@@thisguy1640 I meant Doom 3 too. The lack of helmet creates a more human connection which compliments the games horror and psychological attributes.
8:45 - Basically, imagine the original Doom on crack - or some alien equivalent - and this is what you end up with....
Argent energy, anyone? ;)
MF FLAME I 100% agree 2016 was just amazing in every way
I like how clouded the visor is in 2016. With the lore and gameplay building him up so much not being able to see his face clearly makes him come off as a force of nature and leaves room to the imagination that anything could be under that helmet.
In my opinion,The 2016 armor is the coolest looking,But I can see why people like the Eternal armor and customization(UNICORNS)
0:14 WHY DIDN’T DOOMGUY SHOOT THAT HORRIFIC SONIC
I really enjoyed this video! Thanks for doing it. The intro was comedy gold!
No problem at all! Thanks for watching!
As a Quake 3 fan I can say the 3D model on Tony Hawk literally is the same of Q3's one. Even the textures are the same.
That would make sense tbh!
And engine maybe :)
Crazy how much the Doom model in Q3 looks like the original Romero's concept design
The abs weren’t exposed, The suit was torn. If you look closely there are scratches and ragged cloth. Also the other marine in the background doesn’t have exposed abs.
It took me way too long to realize that the suit wasn't just stupidly designed
I agree with you here. Although the new Armor looks awesome, I prefer the 2016 version. Plus in Doom Eternal you can use the 2016 armor with the new Armblade and shoulder cannon. So that will look awesome. But I like the 2016 armor due to it's more mysterious nature, like you said. Very few parts of even his face are visible. I think I'd like the new set more if the visor was less transparent.
I actually like that you can see his face in Eternal. I'm usually not a fan of this, but in Eternal, it just fits so well...
Doom Eternal is easily the best design for me, it's the Movie Sonic / Skylanders Crash of the Doom franchise!
Also, I love the Doom franchise, it has fun games and is incredibly interesting to go through
Also you forgot to mention that Doom had *a flippin' pinball machine in pinball fx for modern consoles* , it's entirely based on Doom 2016, so there's nothing new to see there besides the fact that the machine is actually very fun like it's fps counterpart
Question: How did Skylanders Crash differ from the original design? All I really remember about Skylanders was them massacring my poor boy Spyro.
you say it like skylanders crash was good.
@@Dephire yes, that design is *BEAUTIFUL*
@@chomperelectric2676 Hmm, I suppose I was thinking of Spyro.
@@Dephire yeah, Spyro doesn't look very good in Skylanders, the reignited design is better
You have brought the Doomicorn upon us, and I’m not even mad.
I like the Doom 2016 design "more" in that he seems more like a badass human than straight up superhuman
But now that your badass human is warmed up... It's time for him to become a badass diety of mass destruction and pain
@@hovis_esports Meh. People have weird ass taste.
But, he is a superhuman tho, a super badass one
@@mathiaseriksen6600 don't care didn't ask plus you're white

Well good thing you can use the praetor suit in doom eternal.
Commander Keen. Man I remember plaing this game as a kid when it came out. Think it was Commander Keen in Goodbye, Galaxy or some thing. lol
Think that's the exact one I had!
It’s nostalgic and just my favorite design for me
I personally like the classic doomguy from Doom/Doom 2/Final Doom personally
Doom 2016 isn't a remake actually. Its part 3 of the original doom
I've always been different I sometimes like the mysterious badasses showing some type of human to them if that makes sense.
yes, I just love the doomslayer wrists, the little knobs idk what they are
It's all about personal preference. For me, I love that I can see them big beefy ARMS. So I really dig this new design. He's gorgeous.
The doom 2016 poster suit the one that has a orangish visor and looks like it has been enchanted by flame powers
I may have a reason for why the arms are exposed
We saw in a video made by IGN that the 2016 suit is in peices and seems to be under construction at the moment in the fortress of doom and the slayer needed a new suit of armour
The exposed arms could be for flexibility purposes due to him always running and gunning,it probably makes it easier to move his arms around
I agree, and a big factor would be how easy it is to self project onto the 2016 design and feel even more of a demon killing badass, which is a big part of doom's gameplay of that power fantasy and immersion.
I love how the slayer himself modified his armor while recycling components from the previous praetor suit to the newly upgraded one.
I love how *D O O M* series is one of the only few game/movie series that the design changes were liked by all, but some designs were more preferred than others, per person.
His biceps are expose in Eternal because they got too big for the suit.
Have you seen the new customization trailer withe cool new designs and a new version of the classic doom guy costume
My favorite is Eternal suit. I just love the chunky plugs/bolts and the buff arms, along with the abs.
The Doom Eternal Suit looks like the slayer murdered a predator, then took his plasma caster and wristblade as trophies.
It appears that the "ripped ab plate" is nor armor, but rather a shirt, judging by the tear pattern.
I like to imagine that the exposed biceps on the slayers armor in Eternal is less of him being fearless to what he's fighting, and more his arms are just too damn big to fit into any armor for the suit.
My all time favourite appearance of the Dom Marine is the one in Quake Champions - the arena skin. It's simple and really cool looking.
I think the eternal suit is the best but personally I’d prefer it if his arms were completely covered
Person:What about Doom Anil-
Me:Shut up
Person:But-
Me:That never happened
erm, btw, the new lore which is in doom 2016 states that the doom slayer was given increased strength and durability...he doesnt NEED the amour other than that it helps him harness argent energy
It states that he doesn't need the armour?
2016 looks too generic & Halo ish. That's why they need some predator shoulder cannon shit & exposed BICEP MOOSLE.
I forget how many Doom guys there have been!!! Top video dude, Doom 3's guy needs to keep his helmet on! there was something so odd about it
I agree with you, 2016's design is more practical and mysterious.
3:40 where's that from?
Can't believe you all really slept on the doom comic design.
WHO'S A MAN AND A HALF
I'M A MAN AND A HALF
I haven't seen anyone mention how lowkey badass the shoulder cannon is, hope to see a demon skull collection get added to Fortress of Doom
I love the original Doomguy appearance the best, simply because it'd look right at home in a lot of the action sci-fi movies around that time like Aliens (1986), RoboCop (1987), and Starship Troopers (1997), with it's bulky armor giving it a cool and goofy charm.
Love this video. If you’re going to return to the series, would you talk about the demons? I would love a video on either the Cacodemon or Revenant.
In my opinion I like Doom Eternals one because it's like a re-imagining of the first design
12:52 You could find a skateboard in Doonslayer's room in Doom eternal
That's awesome lol
What is absolutely awesome that you can use the 2016 armor via an unlockable in Eternal. First thing I'm gonna change will be that
What is the name of the song at 0:40? I'm not sure if it's 2016 or eternal.
Doom Eternals Doom Slayer doesn't need arm armour because he is literally too angry to die. Doom slayer could go into battle naked and still win.
He actually had a unused voice in Quake 3 Arena.
wait ... this isn't the tom nook video I was looking for! 😨😱
( I like it (this video) so far )
(good)
William Joseph "BJ" Blazkovicz, after the war, had a son.
There are always two rules to each DOOM Appearances, Green Armor and no sleeves
And it should always be that way
I think the exposed abs were pretty cool in the original design. The abs weren't exposed by design though, a demon ripped that part off the armor. You can see how the armor would have looked like intact in Quake champions, where it allows you to customize it.
Beginning: “would be rude to not take these off” *pulls out pistol*
For me the 2014 reveal of the original concept design, though blocky is the definitive DOOM armor/Doom Guy/Slayer/Marine design. Very practical everything in his body is not exposed and that helmet is very cool like old scifi films.
His newest suit has a blade and flame thrower attachment giving him a edge.
They should add the damaged preaetor suit from the doom 2016 trailer in doom eternal
man love your video, were you thinking of doing a similar video on halo master chief? i think what we see in the armor design from halo infinite trailer is a mix of previous one.
The slayer in doom eternal reminds me of the predator with his shoulder cannon and wrist blade. But in general I like all of Doomslayers designs
Actually, if you look at doom one’s box art, you can see the portion showing his abs is ripped. And the sprite in the roll call has no abs showing.
