Thanks for the video. Had the old version for over ten years. Finally time to replace. Looked at several other brands, but had good luck with my last Hobart. This video confirmed my hunch. Going to get this new model.

I have a 140 handler and absolutely love it. You did an outstanding video review. With the 140 and the 12ci. 99.9% I cut 1/8” or less. The point .01% I cut is 3/16”. Of course it’s a Hobart and with this 12ci all the bases are covered.
Heck ya- it’s fully capable and great for most normal people’s needs.

Cool video what air compressor cfm required for tourch?
NONE! That’s the whole point! This little dude has a compressor built in, no air needed!

Great video….wouldn’t mind trying before I buy. I took a welding class summer 2020 from you and later bought a Miller 220 AC/DC. I am still learning aluminum AC tig. It going okay, but I need more torch time. I bought an evolution circular saw to cut some metal I bought and have been debating getting a plasma but didn’t want to get a big air compressor with drying stuff, etc. This Hobart seems like it’ll work. Did it ever cut 1/4”?
I have tried it on 1/4'' before and while it certainly struggled and had to go slow, it did the job! The "ceiling" of the old shop was 1/4'' steel and we had to poke a hole for lines from the air compressor- and we did it with this little Hobart machine (my neighbors).

It's a versatile machine with its limitations, but it's got some pretty epic qualities that made it the right decision for me!
Great video, first time I hv ever lol watching an instructional video. I have the same model (first time plasma cutting) which i bought for crafts and customizing, hobby type stuff, and have used it daily for at least the last 2 weeks and am thoroughly enjoying it. I like that it cuts through painted or rusty steel requiring little prep time so I can just jump off into the project. The problem I've had is it does a lot of starting and stopping, a couple seconds of cutting then a few seconds delay. I thought it might be an electrical issue so I plugged it into the wall outlet directly and it may hv helped some but I've started cleaning up the area where the ground wire is being clamped as well and it also seems to have helped however the problem still occurs more often than it should. Have you experienced this issue? For what I do it's a.great tool but the starting and stopping makes intricate cuts extremely difficult.

No, they’re very different.
These days- plasma for anything under 1/2” and torch for anything real big.
Plasma is quick, easy, and doesn’t blow up your garage.
can this be fed stargon for cutting titanium?
No, it doesn’t get fed compressed air at all, it has its own built in compressor.
Unless the room you were in is completely filled with straight argon, but in that case I have other concerns for your health.

Hey I know this is a bit off topic for this video, but I was looking for some advice on vanagons. I’m looking at buying a complete 1987 vanagon gl in good shape except it’s not running. I was wondering the bolt size and location for the crankshaft bolt so I can see if I can turn the motor over. Also if you have any suggestions on what to look out for or what tools to bring for the job it would be greatly appreciated, thanks -z
If you can’t turn it by hand from the belts- that engine is ruined. I don’t have any east to type out blanket advice on what to look for but I’d say: seam rust is almost unrepairable- don’t think it’s minor, if the engine turns or cranks it can likely be made to run, if things are missing- particularly on the engine, that’s going to be tricky to source and expensive to fix. Plan to throw at least $5k at Any bus that’s sat in order to get it properly and safely back on the road. All new brakes all the way around, new tires, some brake lines, coolant lines.
If it looks like I needs an exhaust- that’s expensive.

I read a bunch of reviews and it looks like this is for someone that uses it at home for small jobs. People complain that it shuts off from over heating and has to sit for 7 min before it turns back on and when it turns back on you can’t use it for too long before it shuts off from overheating again. People say it doesn’t have enough volume of air so there is more slag then a regular plasma cutter that uses air from an air compressor and you have to cut pretty slow. All and all from what I have read it seems to be perfect for someone that just needs it for small jobs, thinner metal and/or need it because an air compressor is not available like if ur a mobile mechanic or a farmer that needs to cut something in a field on a tractor. If u are using this at ur shop that has an air compressor or home or where ever that has an air compressor then get a cutter that uses compressed air u will be happier
I couldn’t disagree more. I have two other plasma cutters with air compressors- and I still reach for this more then any other.
It’s phenomenal, and has held up flawlessly over the years.

With a monster inverter, I don’t see why not!
Small comment on your technique. Try pulling towards you when cutting , you will have a less jerky motion.

Drag the tip don't push it... Your cuts will be way smoother and controlled. Using a guide bar or straight edge also helps steady your hand to make machine like cuts. And the open part of the wire tip guide goes toward the handle.

I own the same Hobart air force model. I have been welding/fabricating for over 30 years.
I bought mine for retirement hobby projects, but that little beast can make you $$$
Another tip
Stay off the Red bull, Mt. Dew, and coffee in general.
The caffeine really messes with your hand control. Shakey hands = Shakey cuts and crappy welds.

Oh ya- plasma is cooooool! It has properties of both a liquid and a gas. Do some googling, it’s magical!
