    Had to come by and give credit! your video saved me a job! I locked my weed eater up completely from inaccurate oil and fuel mix. I was in a hurry and topped off, next thing i know it seizes while im using it. Pulled plug, sprayed pb blaster in cylinder, waited 5 mins and tapped with a wood punch and everything retracted. Smoked like hell but now working normally! Thank you sir!

      Where are yah suppose to tap with the wooden punch? Everyone is saying tap but not say where. Down in the spark plug hole? I'm on a job with a seized engine.

    When I started searching TH-cam on how to fix this, I was already where you had lead people to be. I had pulled off the pull start housing to make sure it was free and I had also pulled the plug. The cylinder looked very dry so I filled it with some PB spray. It wouldn’t pull without messing with it further so I took a nail set up side down and lightly tapped the piston head and slowly but Surely it started moving downward. I used the pull cord again and it just got stuck again. One more time of tapping the piston all the way down got enough lubricant on the cylinder wall to free the whole thing. Within five minutes my Weedwhacker was running. By the way, 50 to 1 ratio is way less oil than 32 to 1. 32 to 1 oil is 4 ounces per gallon. 50 to 1 is 2 1/2 ounces of oil per gallon so that is a lot leaner. Anyway thank you for posting. Don’t loan out your money making tools.

      Thanks to Mr. Cowett's video and Mr. Gidney's comments. My Featherlite FX26 weed eater seized up. So I removed the spark plus, sprayed WD-40 into the piston chamber, waited an hour, tapped down the piston using the dull side of a nail, put the spark plug back, and then I was able to pull the cord to start the engine. The weed eater came right back and worked just fine. THANK YOU BOTH!

    • @rickgidney1005
      @rickgidney1005 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Y. Joshua Chang you’re welcome sir, for sure. Remember that the piston ring eventually takes the beating of it’s life and will eventually get to the point of not letting the motor start because of no compression. I make sure my Weedwhacker is going half speed or three-quarter speed full-time in order for the motor to keep the air flowing by it to keep it cool. Don’t dog it out too much. Use it up for what it’s worth. Have fun

    I had a similar situation with a Poulan leaf blower about 10 years ago. I refilled my 2stroke gas can and forgot to add the oil to it. The machine ran about five minutes, lost power, died at an idle, and was locked up. I immediately remember that I didn’t add oil to the gas. I pulled the spark plug and filled the cylinder with automatic transmission fluid (its what I had around and I didn’t want to spend any money on it). I left it setting a week (while on vacation) and the piston broke free very easily when I got back to it. It started immediately and smoked like a fiend for about 10 minutes (until all the atf in the muffler burned away). It is still running good today. Yeah, don’t just throw your machine out before you try to free it up first.

    This really works! I was an idiot and mistakenly bought a can of 100% gas to use in my weed eater. After the motor seized, I realized my mistake. I followed this video and just used a few shots of PB blaster instead of the stuff he used. Weed eater fired right up!

    Have the same trimmer had the same problem. I took mine apart and I think you had the same problem I did. The piston wasn't siezed, it was the bushing or berring on the connector rod that overheated and jammed up. I got it freed up but I might want to replace that piece because it's still a bit sticky. It could probably run fine without it being replaced but will probably run into the same problem later if I don't.
