If there is a singer on this planet who is better at what he does than Andreas Scholl, I can't imagine who it is. He is simply in a class by himself and never fails to deliver a superlative performance!
Y porqué hay que traducir al anglosajón?😢😢 el anglosajón no tiene nada 👎 de la gracia necesaria para hacer traducciones , en cambio el FRANCÉS es completamente válido para hacerse entender mundialmente ❤😊
I have loved Scholl's work for years but hadn't heard of Dam-Jensen because I've been out of the opera world for a long time now. Their voices together are one of the most exquisite sounds I have ever heard but so is each of their voices alone. Wow. So glad I came across this today!
Two voices like bells, ringing in harmony...No, that's not accurate...Bells wish that they sounded this lovely. Incomparable beauty. (Their voices too!)
I think the costumes and the setting add a sense of purity/serenity and peace now that all the evil has been defeated. It might be minimalism, but a central point of minimalism is to express as much as possible, while "doing" as little as possible. I think they succeeed well here. Besides, they are both quite good at singing. I do like Dam Jensen best here, though. Of course, she is my favorite soprano so that might be why:P
Inger Dam-Jensen won the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition in 1993, two years after her stage debut, and has appeared regularly at the Danish Royal Opera for many years. I saw her perform Ophélie in Thomas' "Hamlet" here in Copenhagen in 1995 and she was wonderful.
Very fine performance. Andreas and sounds looks good, he has filled out well. Ms. Dam-Jensen sounds quite good. I've not heard here before and am quite impressed! I'm not a fan of minimalist production, but at least the staging doesn't have them hanging upside down out of a window to express "fragility or danger." The singing is first-rate, which why one goes to or listens to opera in the first place...or it SHOULD be!
You know your singing. I have been playing and replaying that exact 2:44 to 3:06 glorious section. I wouldn't have noticed the dissonance, but you are right about its impact. Taken whole, this is heart-rendering beauty.
Although there have been some remarks about Scholl's limited stage-presence, he acquits himself here in his usual heroic form. Next time he will be better, and also the time after that. He is a handsom man whose voice and demeanor were made for the opera
A.SCHOOL IS THE LUCKIEST BLOKE SUPERB C ONTRATENOR HE WENT ON TO PLAY CEASAR WITH CECILIA BARTOLI!!!!!!!! IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PRODUCTION WOW. WHO,WHO ELSE BUT LE ROI.........SCHOLL
Well, dancing was a much more important part of opera performances than it is now. There was dancing during all the instrumental parts, of which there were many in some operas (Rameau's, for instance). So opera is about singing, rather than dancing. And it wasn't always so.
I am really disappointed because of these minimalist customs and stage decorations. While they add nothing to the music, the create an alien atmospheare. It would be fascinating to see these peaces in original baroque setting!
Wunderbar, wunderbar ❤❤😊😊
So clean, clear and simple. Pure art.
Thank god this beauty can still exist in this often terrible world.

A link to this heavenly duetto was among our wedding gifts. The gifter passed away several years ago, yet the memories remain as well as our family.
Magnifique !❤❤❤

Their voices match perfectly well. Wonderful!!
My favourite singers of baroque music! Thanks for posting this video!
Thank you
I just finished watching this on DVD -- the whole thing ROCKS! If you haven't seen all of it yet, go get it -- seriously, it's fantastic!
angelic voices in perfect harmony, this is the best performance ever and a perfect match made in Heaven!!! Sublime every time.
It is exceedingly beautiful. What a wonderful aria performed with passions and a touch of warmth by these two great artists.
This is absolutely wonderful. Not heard Inger Dam Jensen before her voice is effortless and Mr Scholl as usual amazing
Rarely is a soprano voice as pleasant and yet dominant as that of Inger Dam Jensen! Even the great Andreas Scholl is only second with her!
Both of their voices are perfect for this rep. and they blend beautifully. Well matched casting! And beautiful production.

Totally agree. This performance is just sublime and probably perfect.
Two voices perfectly complimenting each other. Sublime.
Great performance
Their voices are beautifully matched and suited to each other.
Perfect four ( 4)👌 performances including the musicians and the audiance .Greeting from Jerusalem Palestine 🇵🇸 ♥.
Great duet and performance.
IN ADDITION TO A MARVELOUS VOICE MR. SCHOLL POSSESES THE MOST WONDERFUL
STAGE PRECENSE
Plus he looks good in uniform
@@reasonablyserious He'd look great in any sort of clothes...or even without any.
This piece is absolutely divine!
And magnificently sung as well...
This is quality music-making!
Takie piekne.Slucham i ogladam wiele razy.
Bravo. Inger is one of my favourite Sopranos. Clarity, pitch perfect and true warmth. This performance is sublime.
Great Handel performing!
A wonderful performance.

I'm so going to buy this.
Sublime-thank you for posting
2:44 to 3:06 = perfection. As well as the dissonance at 4:38 held extra long. Sublime performance.

@marchesano Yes, he has filled out and it's about time. He was too thin
He's a dancer, he appeared twice during the performance.
It is a pity that Andreas almost did not sing in the opera during the heyday of his voice (1993-2007). It's a disaster. He's as good as Daniels.
It's an opera and all about people singing, as opposed to dancing.
I thought this was 2007? I only see 2007 on amazon
Her ringing soprano overwhelms his voice. That's the problem with the counter-tenor voice. Male altos can not achieve the volume of female sopranos.
here the singer does not drown him
Flores and Bartoli have tiny voices, but they sing in the opera)
I disagree..Scholl's voice does ring through. I don't disagree with your generalisation but in this case Scholls squillo is more than adequate
Beautiful music and voices, but what a God-awful nightmare of a set. Postmodern relativism is destroying opera.
