It would’ve made more sense if instead of keeping the boys inside as test for the cure, they were keeping them inside to protect them because they were the cure. And instead of the infected being mindless, they were smart and trying to get the cure to destroy it.

TGATS WHAT IM SAYING, like even if it was a purposely released virus. Wouldn't they think of a cure before releasing it. Just in case? And ontop of that, instead of sedating and kidnapping ; indoctrinating all of the immunes they could have just told the truth and have had volunteers to make a cure whilst the immune are protected in the mazes as defences. Wicked didn't need to hide the truth and buried their own graves. It is never explained why all of the immune have their memories wiped

It feels like an author came up with a fantastic book idea, finished it and realized they didn’t answer all of the questions. So they wrote more and more books but weren’t able to ever put of bow on it and tie all the loose ends up.

22:58 there was a lot of stuff they had to cut out to keep their PG-13 rating. Examples: WICKED guards hanging from the ceiling with purple faces, Winston’s face being brutally messed up after the metal ball thing, and that one guy getting suffocated by all that blue gunk. When they cut out all that brutal stuff, they have to take a different approach that is still appropriate. Glad the final movie has the same ending as the books

Everytime i watch (and read) this series i just find new plot holes and more questions. Last rewatch of movie one - According to what the gladers say: no one survies a night in the maze, no ones seen a greiver and they only come out at night, no ones been stung during the day before but the maze doors close at dusk and thats when the grievers come out. so how do they know its a griever doing the stinging? how did this happen previously for them to have this info... cause according to them it cant. its the lack of backstory that was bugging me this time.
I dont want to even tell you how many watches it took before i realized the changing was the flare.

@@UncalibratedAimbot what the boys call the changing (when someone is stung by a greiver) is them being injected with the flare virus. took me a few watches to realize it was the same thing. I had the privilege of doing a 1 on 1 interview with James Dashner way back in 2016, during his promotional tour for The Fever Code. We had a fun dynamic, the interview being more of a lively conversation where we spoke about the series in general and used a lot of the book lingo. I remember being surprised that the attendance at the event wasn’t very large, about 10ish people. Which I thought was very strange given it was 2016, still in the midst of the YA craze. Veronica Roth had a way bigger crowd when I met her at Bookcon 2017. To me, that perfectly shows just how underrated Maze Runner was compared to Divergent and Hunger Games.

The books are 10 thousand times bette,lr, way more plot, and many HUGE things left out from the movies. The Scorch Trials movie is honestly really bad. It’s cool yes, but when you read the book, it’s completely different. The movies hit harder (at least for me) like when the person dies on the building in The Death Cure, like that shit fucked me even though I knew it would happen lol. But like I said there’s way more events in the book, more betrayal, new things like telepathy, it’s lit. You’ll love the series even more.
Edit: Way more character depth and connections with one another imo - although the movies give you the sad visuals, it gives you the depth

The reason for the maze is so unsatisfying, that the author might as well made WICKED into a religious cult, that demands children's sacrifice, in a retelling of the minotaur kind of way. Also, the maze was the best asset of the series and the books, that take place outside of it feel a bit "flat" in comparaison.

Great video! I also felt I was missing something but it appears I do not and it's just the story.
I have a couple of thoughts on the story I'd like to share. First of all I also feel like the story was made up on the go. I also read the books twice. First the original trilogy and afterwards the prequel (where Thomas and Therese built the maze, can't remember the title) and then again the original trilogy, as I felt the prequel shared much game changing information. However, I was disappointed to not find anything clueing at what the prequel had shared and instead (I think) I found inconsistencies.
As we know, the prequel drops that Therese still has her memory. This was revealed in a memo by Therese to the W.I.C.K.E.D. employees (I read the German version, not sure what the memos are called in English). In the end of the first book however, there is a memo from Ava Paige, telling her employees something like "do you remember what the girl put on her arm, before she lost her memory?". This is clearly hinting that Therese's memory was erased whatsoever. I am not sure if that was poorly translated and not an issue in the English version. I do not see why Paige would lie to her employees. So ???? Is this an inconsistency? Or is there any other explanation I cannot see?
Next, in the prequel we also learn how Therese and Thomas learn about the Telepathy thing all by themselves. Therese first contacts Thomas and then continues to teach him. All of this is kept secret from W.I.C.K.E.D., even though Thomas suspects they know him and Therese are already using it. In the trilogy, Thomas (multiple times) remembers a teacher of W.I.C.K.E.D, teaching him how to use it. So again ???? Is his memory wrong here, or what is the idea here? Is he, in reality, remembering Therese teaching him?
Finally, Thomas remembers how him, Therese, Rachel and Arris (that's how you spell him?) are about to be sent into the labyrinth. He remembers that they know their memory is about to be erased. But in the prequel we learn that Thomas thought (until the very last moment) that they are allowed to keep their memories and to spy for wicked. I do not see how this is supposed to work out.
Please let me know what you think about these :)

I honestly dont think that the problems lie mainly in the mystery that the series tries to set up and its resolution: i honestly read the books and I think it wasn't done badly, but it's fair to say that more could have been done. I'll put my hand forward by saying that i'm a fan of the series but we have to say things as they are. The books are too short and don't give us the chance to fully explore some things, like Thomas' connections with some characters. Johnson tells Thomas that he met him but there is no trace of that in the prequels, Dashner as usual compresses (in my opinion well) the whole story into a short but developing it well. However, this vice of his prevents us from resolving some small things that would have been pleasant to know. If the books had even just 30-40 more pages there would have been so much more space for details

I mean the email that “Terrisa” sent in the epilogue of Fever Code could have been faked. Eva Paige already faked Thomas’s email prior in the book and it would make sense for her to to fake Terrisas email too. It’s possible that Terrisa really didn’t have her memories or at least not all of them during the trilogy and was betrayed by wicked like Thomas was. My personal headcannon is that she does not have her memories or at the very least, only has memories that wicked gave her

@@11mr_fox21 there is no prove that the email is faked, it's true and it's the plot twist of the book.
If you remember, in the opening pages of kill order, Teresa looks at Thomas meanwhile his memorys were erased, feeling sorry that her boyfriend (in the end they both love each other, little to be done) will not remember her BUT in fever code the original plan (to which Teresa had falsely agreed) expected to enter with her memories intact. It's clear there was a "betrayal" and you can easily see it by connecting these facts and noting how Aris and Teresa could talk to each other in the maze even if they should not know the existence of each other

I really really disliked the Maze Runner books. It was like Lost. The story is built on it's mysteries, and the narrative is engaging. However, the answers to the mysteries are a massive let down. For one thing the whole plot point of trying to put people through all these stressful situations, to get the cure for the virus, makes absolutely no scientific sense. That's just not how medicine works. Research is one of the most important parts of being a writer, and clearly James Dashner did almost no research. If you're going to write science fiction, maybe learn a little science. That's just one of my reasons for disliking this book. The answers to the questions just don't hold up.

It kinda bothered me too but that's where our suspension of disbelief is meant to come in across essentially any fictional work.
Like mentioned above its up to us to fill in the gaps and I actually had a blast thinking about how this all fit together since i read the books over a decade ago in school.
The conclusion I came to years before the movies is that the virus is not a normal virus, given its almost zombie like nature taking over the mind it makes sci-fi sense that something about a persons brain chemistry can make them immune, but the only way to fully study someones brain is to fully activate its various responces, hence the maze where presumably the subjects have implants monitioring their brain chemistry and activity.
The whole "the cure is in the blood" part kinda contradicts this but i could go on a whole other tangent regarding that lol
Bottom line some of us love it because its bad, because there is so many holes to be filled in and the only limitations are our own imaginations.
Personally its one of if not the best looks into a zombie virus, its cause, its symptoms and potential cure all while giving us next to no answers and instead encouraging us to find our own.
