I just came across your video, really nice layout. I’ve been a TCA member since 2000, mainly O ga with some HO and Lionel and MTH but these Atlas Engines are sweet, I best order me their catalog. I’m 66 and have stepped back from collecting these past few yrs. I have a 79 yr old friend who still buys trains ( lots of them 🤣 ). These Atlas have lit a fire and stirred my passion again 👍🇺🇸
Hey Eric! Just a suggestion you should make a video of all the train crashes you have had on the layout because I was thinking that huge layout there’s no way there hasn’t been a large crash!
These engines are absolutely beautiful! I'm so excited about the new MTH Z-6 challengers that they're re-releasing. For the first time in my life, I've pre-ordered an MTH locomotive!! I hope you'll get one as well, these things are absolute BEASTS and I'm pretty sure you don't actually have many NP engines. I know you're a big fan of adding railroads you don't have much of to your collection, so one or maybe even 2 of those would be amazing! Heck, you could get all 3, the SP&S which is already an extremely rare roadname. The GN which has that beautiful green boiler and red roof and of course, the Northern Pacific which is what I chose!! Much love from Texas as always! Keep on bein AWESOME!!!
Great locomotives Eric. I believe that the Atlas Models have more prototypical sounds like the real locomotives seen today on the rails. As someone who watches trains frequently, these models are close if not identical to their real-life counterparts. However, the only drawback I have with these models is the horn used these days these. I have a previous version of a Canadian Pacific ES44AC that MTH did back in the mid-2000s with Proto-Sound 2.0 and the horn on that locomotive sounded more accurate than this one does here. These are both very excellent models however and the paint schemes on these things are just absolutely gorgeous. I wish I could get that CP one though as I am a friend of CP and now that CP no longer the name anymore (which is CPKC when the merger with KCS occurred) it only makes me want to get this one even more.
I kind of lost steam in the hobby over the years no pun intended but Eric always does a good job reminding me of why I will always love model trains. I need to go fire up the layout!
I love them both you know they're my trains as well only will keep them at your place you know since you paid for them but I can see them whenever I want thanks for sharing buddy😂
I am a dedicated MTH fan and typically own MTH only with the exception of 2 legacy GP7s. I think the PFA sounds on the Atlas models may be more prototypical but the Lionel sounds overall are better as they are more enhanced by the bass speakers in the models. Thanks for another great video.
Do you ever wish they didn't use proprietary control systems and just used DCC like every other scale that way you can get the sound and features you want and then you just have to buy the model.
love your vids can you make another vid with all of your trains I seen the last one with the new bridge you made make another vid and with your heritage as well I'm your biggest fan
Great video! What remote do you use to run Atlas locomotives? Is it the MTH DCS system? I wish 3 rail O was like HO and N where there is one universal system to control any locomotive.
The story I heard was back when these systems were designed, DCC didn't perform well amidst all the electrical noise of typical 3-rail 'O' layouts at the time (what with open-frame AC motors and solenoid-driven accessories). While MTH/Atlas Protosound 3 units _can_ be driven with DCC (they have DCC electronics integrated into the PS3 boards), a wholesale changeover to DCC in 3-rail nowadays would leave most operators facing *huge* conversion costs in their existing command-controlled fleets.
I’m an N scale/HO scale person so I got no skin in this game, but the locomotive sounds on the Atlas SD70ACe are exponentially more accurate than the Lionel version. Cool comparison you did.
Hey Eric. I've always wondered about the speed matching, if any, you do when you run these engines not just of different models abut also different manufacturers together. I model N scale and always have to spend quite a bit of time speed matching models of even the same type and manufacturer before they'll run properly together??
hey Eric, I love the ATLAS brand for my N scale trains, preferrably the ATLAS rolling stock cars are my perfect pick of choice. The engines need a lot of work done to them, but I use the engines as static displays.. Stay awesome, man. -MG
Atlas took the Gold Medal home for 2024 on both of those runs that’s a big eye opener when you think about it. Lionel better step there game up. If atlas beat them on most of their products in looks, quality&price a few years in a row they are going to be in a real battle for their customer base I’m just saying people ok with paying a few extra dollars for something that’s not going to break before you can break it in 🤷🏾 that seems like the new norm these days
I have several Atlas freight cars but no engines. I've felt that Atlas has some of the best detailed add ons like grab irons and railings Sometimes to the point your afraid to accidently touch them cause they are so fragile but they look so good. Also the couplers dont always line up good with Lionel but that can be shimmed.
I have Atlas locomotives on the HO scale side, and they're a solid product (their rolling stock is a little more hit and miss, though). I think people are harder on them than they really need to be, yeah they don't have the detail and features some other brands have, but they're really good runners!
I think the Lionel sounds tops the Atlas but the Atlas details are a bit better than the Lionel. I love the Atlas 30K tank cars and freight. Don't have an Atlas loc yet but soon!
I just love the sounds that Mth trains do I like the cab chatter and the pfa's...don't git me wrong I like a few lional engines to buy there to me a little over priced..
I've got a question these new Atlas train engines will they run on a DCS setup will they actually go in the dcs remote in other words do they read the signal that the dcs box delivers I'm trying to say whenever you put a new Mth engine on the dcs track will the dcs computer put the atlas engine in the remote control???..I have all Mth engines and DcS and a TiU...
Lionel Legacy sounds are tops in my book, MTH/Atlas diesel sounds are not as bad as their steam sounds. I do have some Lionel TMCC engines that still out do the Proto 3 sounds. What I don’t really like are the 3 axle trucks that MTH/Atlas uses with the flange less middle wheels. Lionel 3 axle trucks all wheels are flanged. That was not the case in Lionel’s TMCC days.
The Atlas engines almost sound like they are sick when compared to the Lionel Legacy engines. I am not sure how else to phrase it. Now that being said I am a big fan of SD70’s, so I will admit that the Atlas engine is amazing when giving it the eye test.
Love this release. Only issue is that atlas have been using the same horn for all the PS3 releases, there are a lot to choose from, need more variety. Besides that great model
Both Atlas and Lionel are awesome I think. Love that there is some manufacturing competition out there. I find that the atlas models are slightly more prototypical with the voices of the employees more realistic. Lionel engines sound are better with crew talk less realistic. I find Lionel engines easier to buy than Atlas and with better discounts. I’m not a fan of the way Atlas markets its items for sale.
Nice video My trains are in storage til we move I’m curious, what do you do for a living? And What is the most cars you’ve ever had in one consist on this layout?? I was able to get over 60, but because it was a shelf layout, I was afraid to run it. Thanks I’m living my railroad life through you and other video posters So, how about some basic operations Thanks
So I can expect them to work for a little while and then suddenly they're just gonna quit working for no reason and just sit around the track like my MTH do. Some kind of battery Issue
I've always felt that the MTH sounds themselves are more realistic, but Lionel has a better delivery system (amplifier, speaker, bass enclosure). If MTH would upgrade their sound system with a better speaker and woofer they'd really have something special.
DCS has way better sound. I own many top of the line Lionel, Atlas & MTH models. I have been very impressed with DCS sound. But I still prefer TMCC/Legacy control over DCS control.
Atlas/MTH has way better start-up and prime-mover sounds... that distinct throbbing.. sound is just like the real one. Lionel's sounds like every other Lionel no matter what the engine is.
The crew talk sounds more clearer on the Atlas.
"THANK YOU ESSENTIAL WORKERS" 😂 I was one and all we got was our hours cut back and a stupid sign that said "Heros Work Here" freaking joke.

Ive always been an Atlas fan, especially the Atlas three rail track!
Two more beauties in the collection Eric!
Congratulations and enjoy them.
Atlas SD70ACE> Idle sound is spot on! Crew talk is also better on Atlas! Great video as always, Eric. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Nice crew talk on the Canadian Pac.

Great locomotives Eric. I believe that the Atlas Models have more prototypical sounds like the real locomotives seen today on the rails. I ended up buying two Atlas O Premier sd70ACe. Ferromex and KCS. They are awesome! Nice to see they are doing more of their models in Proto Sound 3!
I kind of lost steam in the hobby over the years no pun intended but Eric always does a good job reminding me of why I will always love model trains. I need to go fire up the layout!

alright lol
MRL 4404 looks and sounds awesome..love the paint, the PSA sounds terrific 💯.. enjoy your new loco's 👊
Love the orange CP. My favourite railroad of all time👍
❤I’m a huge MRL fan and am always looking for more.
Looking awesome Eric buddy I love see your layout someday your awesome man montana rail link is my favorite railroad
Oh no!! New trains!!!
That's Incredible, These Diesel Locomotives are Superb.👍
Two outstanding locos!
The Lionel bass note swings it for me. Bill
Very beautiful diesels. Interesting information about Atlas Steam. Hope they bought and do the NH I-5

Got my first Atlas at TCA York. Very nice.
Cool little fact since you said you like the orange, CP has a Hapag-Lloyd engine
Right on
Lionel has always had superior sound IMHO.
Those look great 👍 and will be considering Atlas in the future!!
Both engines look fantastic, I think I prefer their sounds over the Lionel's 👍👍

What system do you need to run atlas engines? Lionel or MTH.
MTH
Atlas took the Gold Medal home for 2024 on both of those runs that’s a big eye opener when you think about it. Lionel better step there game up. Hi eric those 2 engines look great i like them both the lionel only had a deeper sound but no biggie there both great runners.
Such amazing engines.
Yo Eric! Love the new trains!
The Lionel has deeper sound on the ES44, but I can hear the turbo on the Atlas, so, if nothing else that turbo whine wins it for me.
Where did you get that beautiful CSX tanker??????
Here: th-cam.com/video/CqG52ydmgFQ/w-d-xo.html
CP also has another orange locomotive. Hapag-Lloyd 8781. If someone else already said it, sorry for the double up.
Eric, like you said they all look great, but as far as sound , Lionel is hard to beat.
Hey Eric you said to hop onto the Atlas boat but I do Ho scale but I would like to try O gauge
I have Atlas locomotives on the HO scale side, and they're a solid product (their rolling stock is a little more hit and miss, though). I think people are harder on them than they really need to be, yeah they don't have the detail and features some other brands have, but they're really good runners!
That was a great video
Hey Eric is Atlas (ex MTH) or Lionel better for detail?
I think the Lionel sounds tops the Atlas but the Atlas details are a bit better than the Lionel. I love the Atlas 30K tank cars and freight. Don't have an Atlas loc yet but soon!
you should also get cpkc 2816 steam and the 1001 hydrogen green loco
yes!
I like the horn on the Lionel better
I prefer the Atlas across the board. Great video. Check your spelling on Announcement. You missed one of the “n”s.
I think the Atlas sound file is more realistic! Both Atlas and Lionel models have nice paint jobs! Im just more of an Atlas/MTH fan overall.
I'm so happy what Atlas is doing with ex-MTH. Also, will you post a video about the Lionel ET44 engines? Have any on order?
I just love the sounds that Mth trains do I like the cab chatter and the pfa's...don't git me wrong I like a few lional engines to buy there to me a little over priced..

These Atlas engines with PS3 behave EXACTLY like MTH engines. EXACTLY the same.
@@Ericstrains cool thanks I'll buying a atlas then in the future
Will Atlas (BRAND NEW) engines have to be sent in for warranty repair?
LIKE new products, the other outfit produces?
Not sure what you mean. Warranty service is done by Atlas.
Lionel Legacy sounds are tops in my book, MTH/Atlas diesel sounds are not as bad as their steam sounds. I do have some Lionel TMCC engines that still out do the Proto 3 sounds. Yes
@@Ericstrains that’s awesome !!!
Sweet ✔️
My question is do you have running sessions with other guys or just you running trains?
Just me most of the time.
did you get to aprils york show .
No, I'll be at the fall show.
Can I update a lionel engine from the 1980s to the new sounds?
Yes, but it's not an easy job.
My bank account could never
Atlas do HO scale locomotives
I like the Altlas SD70ACe sounds and Lionel ES44 sounds
Can we buy "toys" that run with one operating system?
Legacy/Proto sounds
what the hey🤯
Regarding the start up sequences, to my ears, Lionel easily wins this little comparison
sadly the two MRL heritage units is getting repainted to bnsf
You think Atlas will put PS3 in any of their master series locos?
yes. 6:32
@Ericstrains Great review BTW, comparison between the 2 manufacturers is great.

Run all of your trains in one vid like you did that one vid please I'm dieing to see your trains to run again
I've got over 500 locomotives. That would be a super long video🤣
@@Ericstrains can you at least do some heritage units
I think the Atlas sounds better. More clear less muffled.
The Lionels sound better. They both look good.
No it doesn’t. The Atlas one sounds so much more realistic.
@@Trainmaster909 I not sure what the real ones sound like but I like the sound of the Lionel better.
I like the MTH / Atlas crew talk a bit better
Lionel has the better acoustics and bass, but MTH/Atlas has much more realistic sound files overall. Espeically the PFA sequence and crew talk.
The Atlas ES44 engine sound is completely wrong. It's a V16 from a Dash 9. Other than that, very nice 👌
Nice video

Lionel, deeper more robust
So I can expect them to work for a little while and then suddenly they're just gonna quit working for no reason and just sit around the track like my MTH do. Some kind of battery Issue
I would love to buy atlas locomotives but my layout was built for legacy only. Too large to retrofit to DCS so I am out on atlas.
Always loved mths sd70ace sounds more than Lionel.
Lionel is going to win on horn anyday
The MTH startup sounds are more accurate to an SD70Ace. I also like the MTH ES44ac sounds better
Lionel is better but the Atlas (ex- MTH) dialogue is better.
Class act setup.butt everything looks to clean .your layout represents thousands of miles .i need a little weathering.🇺🇸👌
Ok lol
Everyone has their own opinions on sound but for me the MtH always sounded more prototypical
