When you said you adjust / tune engines by ear, reminded me of a friend way back in the day with a Pontiac GTO pretty sure it was a 1965 with 389 tri power. Yeah three carburetors!!!!! He had to adjust the carbs worked on it forever no success. Brought it to a guy at a speed shop he adjusted it in about a half hour, no tachs no instruments just a screwdriver and his ears👍
1 week ago I took out all my equipment. The 7 pieces are used on my 5 acres. Everything started up because of How I store my equipment and a lot of tips from you. All my stuff is OLD. Newest piece is 10 years old. Oldest is 82 years old.
List them please. I’ve never worn out a 2 cycle-drove over a blower, and a tree went an unplanned direction on a saw, but never wore one out. Combination of lack of heavy use and decent mechanical skill. My oldest is a CS510EVL.

I agree with you, I have a older Husq. Chain Saw-51 series that is 30 years old and has cut probably two semi Trailer loads of Wood-many Chains and several Bars but still has Original Spark Plug which is Amazing. Don't know about their Newer Models but I would buy a New one in a Heartbeat...
My Stihl BG55 wouldn’t run with choke open, so I took the rubber limiter caps off-threw them away- adjusted the carb & it runs great! All my yard tools are Stihl, except for my Echo edger, so a small screw driver works great!
Look here Chiquita! I listened to your review on the toolkit and went ahead and bought the orange one. Like usual, it was a mistake because when it arrived, I looked at the drivers and thought I better put them out in my toolbox so I would know where they were when I needed them. Well, I opened up the drawer that I thought would be appropriate for them and then I see a brand new black set that I had previously purchased! Go figure huh? Anyways, maybe you should tell us dummies to first go look in our toolboxes before purchasing....
Don't worry about it. If you need a set now you have two sets. It'll increase your likelihood you can find one of them. Especially since one is orange. I have the problem in that people will barrow my tools and refuse to put them back where they belong. Some tools have been in the same spot 30 years. Nope, put it someplace else. If I say something, why am I getting upset?
Once you start collecting and time passes .. well it happens.. Or you know you have it and can't find it.. that happens too. So. I go get another and when i go to put it up where i think it belongs.. guess what? I find the other one I could not find before.. call it "loss consistency".. this year was a first, I actually bought a third and they were all identical socket sets. whelp when I die there'll be plenty to go around i guess... since they won't spoil :) SMDH!

Working at an amusement park, I witnessed a guy smash his camera on the ground, grab the film and pull it out of the can. About a half hour later, he was back at the amusement park with a new camera. Apparently, the previous camera had been given him problems his whole vaccination. 😂😅
I did the same thing to a Homelite weed eater . Then I bought a Echo 210 straight shaft weed eater . Best decision I ever made . That weed eater sold me on quality power equipment. I still have the trimmer but the tree is gone . 😂
When I was a kid my dad had two Wizard 19" ? mowers , I think they were Western Auto brand , Green & Yellow , One day one of em would stop running every 5 minutes, he took it by the handle and swung it in a circle till it wrapped around a fig tree , after about 6 swings the entire deck was U shaped ,I was on the porch laughing so hard I thought I cracked a rib , when he stopped swinging it I went and hid LOL
I depend on those adjustment tools and found a pack of them at Menards for $10. Back in my shop days even snap on didn’t carry them. Thanks for the great info as per usual. The limiter caps I always took a small screw and needlenose to get them out along with those pesky emulsion tubes but it’s nice to have a magic tool for them now.
Thank you for this video. I bought a Husqvarna 322L weedeater seven years ago, and I've had to fight it to get it started and to keep it running. It was that way straight out of the box, brand new! But now that I've adjusted the carburetor, it runs great for the first time ever!
In 1990 I bought a factory refurbished Shindaiwa straight shaft trimmer and it would run perfectly but only half choked. Since I had that, 3 Homelight chainsaws, 2 Poulon chainsaws, a Husquvarna chainsaw, a Roof Vacuum/chipper, Ryobi Tractor, Simplicity tractor and Lowe's generator, I had to buy my first set of Carb tools. I think a set of 3. I'm on my 3rd set, this one has 10. In the '80's I had to learn how to break off the limiter caps on everything from small to vehicle engines. I was expert at carb rebuilding. Only until now have I learned from your videos the reasons for having to rebuild carbs. Back then parts were cheap and in most cases, easier than disassembling an entire unit. I've also just learned about hidden adjustment screws and a limiter cap tool! That may be why I just let it run half choked. That begs the question: Why did it come, factory refurbished, with a major issue? This video is gold! Thank you for posting this! P.S., 400K Drawing Winner!
I have two Troy-built trimmers that never ran right from the store. I fought these for years trying to get my yard cleaned up. They had to run on choke to run at all. In your previous adjustment video I followed along and this week I went out and started one of them, and it ran like it was supposed to on the 3rd pull. I was able to take it off the choke as soon as it started. Gave me a warm Fuzzy. Thanks Bree.
For the limiter caps, you can just use any screw extractor kit. A few bucks. Easy to counter screw in, you just pull the extractor with a vicegrip. Love your videos. Thanks.
I will be mowing my lawn for the first time this season. Pulled all of my equipment out of the garage, and everything started right up with no problems! Thank you for all of your small engine advice!
I think this is the first video to which I have made a comment, but I had to do it. I have a Husqvarna 128LD trimmer to which , at the start of the season, I installed the Shindaiwa Speed-Feed 400 after watching your excellent vid. Why, oh why I hadn't done this many seasons ago to avoid the continual hassle and frustration of adding new string with the standard head, I'll never know. IThe speed-feed is working like a charm, as you so eloquently pointed out. Same years of frustration with what I now know is a common issue - starts fine, warms up on half choke, dies on full throttle. I know! - CHICANIC!! Sure enough, found this vid. Checked fuel for water (none) and confirmed the filter was good, had already installed a new air filter, checked exhaust screen (clean), replaced spark plug with a new Champion RCJ8Y spark plug, 1/4 turn on both high and low and .... runs like a charm. Fiddled with the high screw a bit but a tac is on the way. Only problem (NOT) was I had to return the Ryobi string trimmer attachment without even taking it out of the box. Can't thank you enough. I'm ready to tackle the carb rebuild at the end of the season. One question - the Husqy spec calls for a Champion QCJ-8Y plug but I couldn't find one. Is the RCJ-8y an acceptable plug and does the trimmer require a resistor type plug? Long winded comment but I'm once again in love with the Husqvarna trimmer. Thanks for your excellent vids and instruction - clear, concise and to the point. Keep them coming!
I’ve been cruising thru YT trying to understand how to replace the pull rope of my Stihl KM55 RC. It’s so old that it doesn’t look exactly like the stuff you put in a recent video, so I was watching many different presenters. Here’s what I learned: you are head and shoulders above all those guys in your capacity to shoot and edit video, to explain, and to demonstrate! I appreciate you even more than I ever have, and I want to thank you!
Thank you for zooming in on the idle screw and where it should be hitting the clutch. I finally got my Husqvarna to stop spinning when idling. I changed the carb parts and was able to tune it and got it running again. So it took me weeks. I’m a persistent 71 yr old gal. Thank you for all your videos.
Excellent!! Something new I learned today. In My experience with small engines equipment doesn’t have to adjust carburetor yet. I’ll get ready for it just in case 😂😢 Thanks!!
On those "hidden plugs," what I've always done is heat a tiny flat head with a torch lighter and press it into the plug. Once it cools, I can slowly twist and pull and it will USUALLY come out. Notice I said "usually." Sometimes it gives me a headache. So THANK YOU for those part numbers! I knew that there was an actual tool for that, but I had no idea how to find them!
I have re-written - edited and corrected your introduction text. It is now written in correct grammatical legal English. Your experience is small engines and not writing. As I have written and co-written several operations manuals for the USAF ( when I served on Officer - exchange attachment ) Thus I am suitably qualified - not only as a pilot - also in writing - Electrical Engineering - teaching and Law. I wish you success in your small engine repair business. Every'one' has equipment with small a small engine - they would be wise to tune into your channel and similar channels to learn practical repair skills. from your experience or have you undertake the maintenance if they reside close-by.
Hey miss Chickanic, my name is Rodger, just wanted to say hey, so hey!!!! You're awesome in your awesomeness, great advise! Thank you. Have a great day! Man! You made my day thanks!
I picked up a $5.99 Pac Man adjuster for the Ryobi I inherited when an old client bailed. But your link to a 10pc set of them is good. As I was fueling the 5 year old Ryobi, the fuel line broke in half, helping me diagnose my problem by leaking. ;) And as you said, it didn't really need any adjustment once the fuel was easily had through the new fuel line.
To remove limiter caps, heat to red hot the end of a small drill bit, insert and wait 27 seconds (or thereabouts) then pull straight out. Works almost every time; repeat if necessary. (Your Husqvarna trimmer sure had a lot of bog on throttling up).
Have a Poulan blower the fuel lines were f Junk. I bought a carburetor and kit. Replaced fuel filter, lines, and carburetor. It ran fine except for high speed, it would surge. I richened up the high spsome and it ran fine. That was 2 years ago and it still runs great. I use it all year so that may help as well.
I took your advice last fall and pumped oil into my 16 year old 440 Husqvarna using the primer bulb. Ran fresh gas oil mixture through the carburetor and dumped out into a container. Added new gas fuel mix First pull on choke it fired. Put choke off and startled right up. I did the same with my Mantis tiller last fall. Should run good Thank You
You are good people Chickanic ! Just saw your add on helping others with your tool savings offer and what you do on your channel. I'm same way all my life. That's why you see me trying to help you with products etc. That I've used for a long time both marine repair and automotive which I've found out thru the dealerships I used to work for as a young man thru to 25 years ago when I opened my own repair business in marine repair. Just closed it due to 2 back injuries , memory loss and right hand curling in. Great for gripping tools though 😅. Which is probably why it is like it is. Since 1967 professionally in dealerships. You probably remember me from the " engine tuner / carbon guard/ and Sierra products used for removing " coking" on piston skirts and freeing sticking rings in 2 strokes. Take care and msny thanks to you for helping others too. Lynn Central Florida. Stay safe the both of you ! This country is in ttouble
I appreciate learning how to care for my lawn stuff. That being said...do you teach how to save time, money and frustration in other aspects of life? Example: suddenly become a full-time caretaker for my mom. 😮
I’ve had my Husqvarna 128LD for a little over 4 years now. The only thing I’ve had to do to it was adjust the L/H screws a little to get better throttle response and to fatten it up just a touch on the top end. I’ve repeatedly used this trimmer with the edger, pole saw, and mini tiller attachments that I have for it and it handles them just fine. I know it’s a homeowner trimmer with the braided steel driveshaft and not the solid steel. I work the trimmer fairly hard, but I don’t abuse it. Simple basic maintenance and it still runs like a top. I also pulled the muffler and the piston/rings and cylinder are well lubed and not one hint of scoring. The exhaust port and spark arrestor are also absolutely clean. All I’ve ever run through it is either Amsoil Saber, Echo Red Armor, or Husqvarna XP+ all mixed 40:1 with 90 octane ethanol free gas.
Tools to get my motor running as well as you do! Had to order the orange kit though, the black kit is over a month out. You may want to mention counting the turns in - so your viewer has a fixed reference point to the original settings. Once one starts turning adjustments like this, one will quickly lose any idea of the original starting point. Counting turns until it just bottoms will assure one can get back to the original starting point when one screws up. That way, one has the opportunity to screw up many times and still recover.
Stihl adjustment tool feels loose because they actually are a fuzz smaller. I've got an xtra OE adjuster tool if ya want it, I'll send it to ya. They send them in all of our tool boxes whenever we open another store. As far as those limited caps, heat up a small pick and burn through it. Makes digging it out alot easier, especially if you have a small enough pick to get under your hole.
You have been so helpful to me. I have a Husqvarna walk behind trimmer. This thing never worked right. I only use can fuel. I purchased those droplets things and see that it has water in it. I also purchased the tool to suck out the old gas. I love that tool. I am going to buy another one. A giant ant was inside my tank. Lol. This year I am going to try to get it started myself. Watching your videos has helped me so much.
grate channel :) learned and remembered some hacks I am at the other side of the ANTLANTIC Bulgaria -being a biker tuning a chainsaw would be a walk in the park - did everything still wasn't running well - air filter clogged - being smart does a bad job
Great basic breakdown👍🏻 for the Echo and Shin tiny plastic plugs, I don't remember the size but take a drill bit smaller than the bore, heat the tip with torch, lighter etc and sink the drill bit straight into the plastic plug without turning. Let it cool a minute and it'll pull that plug out just as well as the proper tool. For the larger orange/red Echo/Shin limiters, cut or grind the sharp tip off a drywall screw and it'll screw into them for removal.
I bought a craftsman brush cutter made by Shindawa that thing is almost 45 years old and still works great . Shindawa has to be the top of the line tools
Great video. Thanks. I watched a tutorial the other day and the guy used a tiny flathead screwdriver like you use to work on eye glasses. He would get the end hot with his portable torch and then press it into the rubber cap. Leave it there for a few seconds while the rubber cools and hardens again, pulls right out. I can't recall if he put it back in the opening after he did his tune up. However, It did seem to be his "go-to" way of removing them. May or may not help someone that doesn't have that specific tool available. Idk.. I just figured it was worth noting. Thanks again for your video. I like your format and the way you cover the information. Much appreciated.
From watching your videos I diagnosed my mower in less than two minutes. From this one I will make the carburetor adjustments. Thank you for your videos. Also how do I become a member?
Thanks for that, I've actually done that adjustment before and got another season out of a trimmer....back when I really didn't know what the adjustments were. Oh, one thing I have been doing that seems to really help, and it was something you said, when I grab a tool I haven't used in months, I monkey with that choke a few times before I try to start it. So far, every one I do that with starts right up. Exception, dang Craftsman push mower that doesn't have a choke. You have to pull it hard 5-7 times the first start up of the season....oh well.
Thanks. I have several pieces of equipment with various carburator problems. Mostly from bad gas where I disassemble the carb and clean them and then they never stay running no matter how much Sea Foam I run through them. I'll let you know how the adjustment works when my adjustment tool kit arrives.
Well done I learned alot. I fixed the blades that fell out of my blower instead of replacing it. It is an old Ryobi blower that works as good a s new now.
My Stihl FS-56RC starts easy, and runs great at full throttle, and cuts like there is no tomorrow. Unfortunately, it had no problem whacking the fiber optic cable that brings my AT&T internet and TV signal into the house. However, if I try to let it idle for very long at all, it bogs down and dies. So, maybe I need to tweak the low side of the carb a bit. I have lost track of how many seasons I've used it. I winterized it this year by getting the gas out of it, and putting a bit of two cycle oil in the gas tank then pumping the purge bulb a few times. This spring I put fresh 89 octane no-ethanol gas mixed 50:1 with Stihl UHD Oil. It runs better than it ever has. I have the Echo speed feed head on it, big improvement. Then I took her advice on getting the trimmer string moist, makes a difference. I bought some 095 string from Lowes, that I was ready to throw against a wall, until I soaked it. Now it lasts longer and cuts better. So, I may be investing $11.00 on the carb adjustment tools.
Learned something new today. My Airens 42in deck needed spindles, wife looks up the parts for me. You can buy spindles pulleys and belt in a bundle. Very cool. Wrong now my belt is to long.:( mmmm. My pulleys I removed are 6.5inch the new ones are are 5in. Know wonder you get the belt in the deal. Lol Thanks for all your help
Good info, as always. Love your channel! I'd fuss at you about hearing protection too, but you said.... BUT, if you had to spend one day hearing the constant ringing in the ears that I have, you would use protection, before it's too late!! There is no going back! BTW - What's up with the bottle of what looks like string beans, in your toolbox? (right between the pumpkin seeds and small Summit Racing sticker)
You are the bomb for explaining how to repair these machines! Awesome! I have a thought for you. Can you use your borescope to film those hard to focus adjustment screws? Then you could just film the borescope screen. Just an idea😁
I have a bolens blower that is acting just like this one, so I’ll try this tip in the morning. I will also check out your other video link just to be safe
Perfect timing! Doing mine tomorrow. Thanks for the tips as always!👍 Oh, and I was lucky enough to order the black tool kit a few months ago...VERY handy.
True story. My fam bought a Weed Eater brand like 20-24 years ago. It’s so ancient it has the heeled base. We’ve never adjusted the carb. I can’t tell you how many winters it was stored with fuel in it and it fired over in spring. Granted short winters. The thing smokes and runs ruff like a log truck. My new Husq is so delicate to octane and last week’s fuel isn’t fresh enough. It’s constantly complaining even when I do all your teachings.
I usually find a self tapping screw in the screw bucket that fits well enough to pull the limiter caps. If you do this for a living I guess you have a dedicated tool like you do.
Love the different pronunciation. Around here it's "Huskvarna", but you say "Hooskvarna". Not a gripe, just an observation. Like the difference between soda and pop.😂 Great video, Brie. A good excuse to buy more tools!🤣👍👍
I remember when they started sealing the adjustment screws on some models! Can't remember for sure! I think they silicone the hole if memory serves me. I went into the field of machine shop work! Aka machinist!
I have had some luck with a small sheet metal screw with fine threads that will grab the end and pull it out. Trick is getting the right size to go inside of the cap
Carb adjustments worked like a charm, thanks! Maybe now my throttle cable is a tad tighter but the carburettor now clicks into a full open mode. Seems by design, how do I prevent that? Thanks!! (2 stroke chainsaw, Sovereign)
I have Snapper weed eater I love it! I have used Walmart mixed gas and it can use up to 10% Ethanol! For the last two years it starts on 2nd of 3rd pull, I have never had such a good weed eater. Wonder what you think of snapper?
I used a drywall screw to remove the limiter caps on my Echo cs-590.
I like this one.
Left hand 2.5mm drill bit works also.
When you said you adjust / tune engines by ear, reminded me of a friend way back in the day with a Pontiac GTO pretty sure it was a 1965 with 389 tri power. Yeah three carburetors!!!!! I never knew about the hidden ECHO adjustments, Bre. I just (stupidly) assumed they had none.
But......That is why I Love your channel!!

Most say Hus-ka-var-na.
I bought that kit about 2 years ago and it paid for itself in just one season. NIce video - stay safe.

I've run many brands of weedeaters but I've been running my Shindaiwa with ez feed 450 for the last 20yrs best one in my book!

Thanks Again Girl!

You're a WEALTH of knowledge!!!! Thank You!!!!!
After following these tips and buying the orange bag toolkit, my bolens blower and my echo weed whacked are both running smoothly, thank you Bre ❤️🙏🏽
Excellent!! Something new I learned today. In My experience with small engines equipment doesn’t have to adjust carburetor yet. I’ll get ready for it just in case 😂😢
Thanks!!
I tried looking for the Echo tools also. You have to be an ECHO dealer to be able to purchase them.
@@danieldominguez7146 Well, that sucks.
I have re-written - edited and corrected your introduction text.
It is now written in correct grammatical legal English.
Your experience is small engines and not writing.

I wish you success in your small engine repair business.

or have you undertake the maintenance if they reside close-by.
Hey miss Chickanic, my name is Rodger, just wanted to say hey, so hey!!!! You're awesome in your awesomeness, great advise! Thank you. Have a great day! Man! You made my day thanks!
Great video as usual..You are the BEST!..🫡👍🤙🏽
Awesome video Bri. Many thanks! 😊
Love your videos, thank you for your time and knowledge
That’s what I’ve been doing 😢
Have a Poulan blower the fuel lines were f
Junk. I bought a carburetor and kit. Replaced fuel filter, lines, and carburetor. It ran fine except for high speed, it would surge. I richened up the high spsome and it ran fine. That was 2 years ago and it still runs great. I use it all year so that may help as well.
*Thanks Bre!* Best Tool yet is *Right Here,* ... just need to seek video, Watch, Listen, & Try, Cheers!
I'm just here to say i love all of my echo equipment, my srm-2620 runs like freaking beast. Big fan of echo
I took your advice last fall and pumped oil into my 16 year old 440 Husqvarna using the primer bulb.
Ran fresh gas oil mixture through the carburetor and dumped out into a container. Added new gas fuel mix
First pull on choke it fired. Put choke off and startled right up.
I did the same with my Mantis tiller last fall. Should run good
Thank You
You are good people Chickanic !

Yes, that's what I do,
Pretty ironic I was just checking out that exact problem with a craftsman trimmer. It worked! Thanks!
Thank you for this video.
I adjusted my carb on my 20 year old stihl hedge trimmer and it runs and idles perfect.
Thanks for another great video. I have a Echo trimmer thats about 10 yrs old but havent had to adjust it yet. Now I know how!
1 day late, ordered the orange kit yesterday. Thanks for the video. Good stuff.
From watching your videos I diagnosed my mower in less than two minutes. From this one I will make the carburetor adjustments. Thank you for your videos. Also how do I become a member?
Would have been nice to explain what initial factory setting are (bottom out than # of turns
I have to make those adjustment on a husky and use a little plastic hose that I ad, like 3/16 off an inch and this make my day
Thank you. This is what I needed to know for my echo weed trimmer.
Well done I learned alot. I fixed the blades that fell out of my blower instead of replacing it. It is an old Ryobi blower that works as good a s new now.
Thanks again for another awesome diy fix-it video. My weed eater has not run this good since new (10 yr ago!)
Very helpful 😊
I fix my poulan pro trimmer with easy instructions.
Use a small mechine screw to remove the plugs. Thanks for a great video !!
Nice hoodie! Thank you, very helpfull video! Congratzon 400k
Love the videos as I do most of my own work on my equipment. Glad a home girl is doing them. I'm in Benton.
Thanks for the tips.
Thanks for all your help. Great video 👏👏👏👏
Lol
Thanks for all your help
What was the good fuel line to buy?
Good info, as always. Love your channel! I'd fuss at you about hearing protection too, but you said.... BUT, if you had to spend one day hearing the constant ringing in the ears that I have, you would use protection, before it's too late!! There is no going back!
BTW - What's up with the bottle of what looks like string beans, in your toolbox? (right between the pumpkin seeds and small Summit Racing sticker)
I have such great timing that I went cordless just before your channel started. Your videos are still fun to watch though.
love all your craftsman tool boxes ,, thank you for shopping LOWES .
Bought the black kit 2 years ago. Have used it many times.
I' have both tool kit for a couple years they work great. Ty for another informational video.
I have a consumer Husq blower & trimmer. Thank you for the info!
Never knew about the special tools needed, Thank you!
I've got a troy buit and it uses the D type ... so I ordered the tool kit ... thanks ...
Really great information! 👏
Great videos always I bought the orange tool kit on your video best 10 bucks I have ever spent spent
Perfect timing!
Doing mine tomorrow.
Thanks for the tips as always!👍
Oh, and I was lucky enough to order the black tool kit a few months ago...VERY handy.
Exactly the issue that I have. What I don't have is the right tool... At least now I know for sure what to do.
You do it basically same as I do, I bought the multiple driver set in the black case
Super genius, thanks for the info 🇺🇲
Thank You Bre!
Love the different pronunciation. Around here it's "Huskvarna", but you say "Hooskvarna". Not a gripe, just an observation. Like the difference between soda and pop.😂 Great video, Brie. A good excuse to buy more tools!🤣👍👍
She used to say it like you but in an older video, she explains how she was told the correct pronunciation by the Huskvarna people themselves…
I have used a tiny screw extractor to remove limiter cap.
Carb adjustments worked like a charm, thanks! Maybe now my throttle cable is a tad tighter but the carburettor now clicks into a full open mode. Seems by design, how do I prevent that? Thanks!! (2 stroke chainsaw, Sovereign)
Great video of awesome advice.
I was not aware of the new adjustments tools thanks for the knowledge and Link for the tool set.
Great idea to do that for sure Bre
I adjust the same way, by ear and it has always worked , still does.
I have Snapper weed eater I love it! I have used Walmart mixed gas and it can use up to 10% Ethanol! For the last two years it starts on 2nd of 3rd pull, I have never had such a good weed eater. Wonder what you think of snapper?
