      Ugugublu its Aristotelian ethics. your question is its own answer. "how do I get great at x"? do it. by great at it. that simple. change occurs that way from the second states of being are opposed. the second you go from not doing it to doing it, you already effected the first and most crucial step to getting it done

      I agree with Mr. Jocko. However, I wish that he had elaborated on the thought processes that entail "just moving forward." The importance of rituals, prepping your gear (for me--the coffee maker) the night before. At the age of 51, I know that going to the gym is ALWAYS better than not going--even if it's just getting the blood flowing. Jocko is a great role-model. A little more civilian-friendly (multiple response strategies) might be useful. I'm a veteran, so I get where he's coming from. Much respect!

    I always knew that whenever I work out, my mind and brain just functions better like a well oiled machine. I thought it was just dopamine but Dr. Andrew Huberman talks about it how osteocalcin is released by stress on the bones by weight training and how it strengthens neural connectivity.
    Since then, no matter how behind I am with my studies and other life obligations, I always make my way to the gym afterwards.

    For ultra solid life principle motivation talk that can really improve your mindset, jocko podcast is the very best. The messages I've heard in the podcast resonate in such a true way that other podcasts don't really capture, it makes sense that the podcast is surrounding books because the right books have the most power possible because they are someone's mind focused on the best way possible to say a message , then edit it down to the essence etc. Jocko is the kind of guy that you would be lucky to be near or with if some disaster situation went down, he's way more likely to survive than most people. Even if he was captured, he would be good. learning about people who went through hardcore war and hearing jocko talk about it like his own battles aren't anything close in comparison is a humbling insight, it helps to complain less about stupidly small problems when you hear these kind of discussions, thanks for making the podcast, it has definitely helped me improve my mindset.

    I’ve watched many videos like this and the basic conclusion that I get from every video related this topic is that you have to master your own mind. It’s the hardest thing to do which is why very few ppl are at the top, those living a good life have mastered their own mind. I will try to do the same. Even tho I’ve tried so many times and failed. I’m 19 goin on 20. Glad I figured this out young. Mastering your own mind is literally the key to success. Good karma plays a part too, IN MY OPINION.

    This is the right mentality, but not a lot of people are willing to talk about the elephant in the room. Burn out is a clinical condition and it can be a serious problem, you have to bite the bullet and make time for yourself in order to stay healthy, motivated, and productive. Don't be afraid to take a day off when you need to, but account for it and build it into your plan. Make sure that the time you set aside for yourself is completely devoid of all work, in other words make it count. Love y'all, keep moving forward!

    • @nemofilipovic1695
      @nemofilipovic1695 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly right. Jocko Knows what he's talking about. Nothing but love for his advice, but I do feel that he missed an opportunity to talk about how after you put off that rest and push through this hard day, you should pay particular attention to your diet and sleep that night to make sure you're better tomorrow.
      Then again, this is an excerpt. He may have covered it.

    that's a good attitude to have sometimes; don't take today off, take tomorrow off

  • @MichaelFrank-ls6xv
    @MichaelFrank-ls6xv 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The right attitude for the situation at hand, which is a lack of motivation - not burn out. Burning out is when you don't program rest and recovery into your life and break under the pressure of unaddressed fatigue. You program rest and recovery into your life just like everything else. You don't just decide not to do something else in the program - that's called laziness. By programming rest days, you retain command. Fatigue didn't overwhelm you and prevent you from doing something, you controlled your fatigue. You decide when to sleep, not your fatigue. You decide when to eat, not your hunger. By maintaining that mentality of having command over yourself, staying motivated becomes much easier.

    My wheels popped and I almost died…took my only one week vacations to fix my car and check up on my legs because it got destroyed. I am at the hospitals waiting room rn and watching this. I feel like I want to eat somebody the minute they say hi but hold my anger back and say I’m my mind “they don’t have anything to do with this” and say hi back and bring create a smile on my face to show them I’m doing alright and I’m strong. I was humbled last week with a dude who worked all his life at this pizza place and he was the only worker there. He was lifting heavy boxes of bottles and ingredients. He always joked around and smiled at people. So one day I was shitty on that particular day and said “you are so stupid for being happy with your life” and he looked at me with a different face that I never saw from him and he said “men aren’t supposed to be happy to live, I work to feed my children and to put clothes on their backs and make sure they don’t look at other people and say why them and not us”
    A real man does what has to be done and not being happy sometimes is the norm. When you have children you don’t do anything for yourself truly but you do it for them. That dude works every day of the year from dusk till late night to provide for his kids. And I’m here with no kids and small problems compared to him and feel like I’m the most important person in the world…man we should do more

    I think a lot of people got this kind of backwards here, so I will try to put my personal perspective on what he said.
    This is not advice on how to start doing things per se, he is talking about that urge to give in, that weakness that constantly whispers in your ear before trying to do something hard. He isn't saying that "the way to do x is to just do x", but rather he shows that he feels that same drag as he keeps up with his routines, and outlines how temporary that temptation really is, something people tend to forget. He says to persevere and always do all you can, even if you don't feel like it rather than creating complex lies and excuses of being tired. Maybe you are, if that's the case, then rest, but otherwise, push forward. That horrible feeling goes away and suddenly you are back in the proper headspace.
