Tbh BTS have done so much to spread their culture. Before knowing them I didn't care about South Korea at all, but now because I became a fan, I started to learn more about Korean culture and history and I'm fascinated with it. If I have the opportunity I would like to visit South Korea and as you said, experiment South Korea by myself.
Thanks you guys for doing this type of videos, I always read the translations of bts' songs but with this type of videos I can understand the lyrics even better ^^

No one with brains can say that BTS are westernized. The SK goverment gave them an award for speading Korean Culture globally for christ sake, ONLY kpop group to get one. Their songs speak for themselves. Ddaeng, Baepsae, IDOL and so on. They have ONLY one song in full English, after 2 years od big popularity in US, when other groups have released full English albums withou demand. They are the reason millions overseas bother with all these K-award shows. Not to mention the UN speech. Honestly, when I see someone saying that I know they are haters or completely ignorant of BTS work.

Seo Taiji and Boys, the greatest influence that made Kpop today used different genres from the West to create his music and yet kpop fans of today dare say that BTS or other 3rd Gen groups are 'becoming westernized' when Kpop already had western influence since the 1st Gen, sigh.

this actually rly hurt my heart u know, BTS bring so much profit to South Korea, they spread South Korea's culture, they do so much for their country, yet still so many people in their own country don't respect them and even accuse them :'(
if bts originally from my country, I'll deadass rly proud and help them support them respect them with all i have, "give back the love"

I never realized BTS's song covered all the regional versions! I LOVE their cover of Arirang and it made me explore so much more about Arirang and traditional Korean music! I learned that there are different variations but I never put together that BTS's song weaves them into one. It is definitely a permanent song on my playlist. My favorite part is how the members harmonize at the end (Ari ari seurri seurri). Snatches my heart 😍 I'll never understand why there are kpop groups with so many members but so few harmonizing parts. . .
A lesser known BTS song, but deserves a place in our hearts 💜

Sidenote becausee not BTS related, but can we acknowledge how amazing that one lady was, that was shown several times? Her voice and art of singing was really great.
Another sidenote. My ARMY daughter just downloaded Arirang somewhere but did not know anything about the background. When we visited my parents together and were talking about how we both got into Kpop (or better BTSpop), we played some songs and Arirang came up. My mom who sings in a choir, where they sing songs from all over the world, said "I know this one, it's basically like a Korean anthem, the most popular song there". So my mom, who has no clue about South Korea otherwise taught us about Arirang.

Fun fact (not very fun), they teach Arirang to little Canadian kids in elementary school music class. We are all about the multiculturalism so they teach songs from different cultures (LOTS of Hebrew songs) and it's a good way to introduce that one scale, you know, the one you can play on only the black keys.

Oh my good god that woman singing at 4:24-4:58 literally sent shivers down my spine and made me burst into tears. Gosh this song just conveys so many emotions its incredible.
As always, thank you so much for explaining this in depth. I'd been wanting to understand some of the meaning behind Arirang ever since I found a video of BTS performing it in 2016, however all other explanations really fell short. Once again, you guys do such a fantastic job of laying out all the complexities and nuances in this explained series and I'm really truly grateful.
Culture is such a wonderful, diverse, and incredible thing and I love getting these glimpses at the history and traditions of Korea. Thank you to you and BTS both!

Locals be saying we are so into korea that forgot our own country but for me it made me love my country even more because I admire BTS for loving their country...it depends on the fans how they interpret the song and apply to themselves
Ofcourse I love korean culture too I'm curious of others too...I swear I wished I was into thier lyrics from the beginning:(

Arirang is my favorite korean folk song, if not my favorite folk song. Ever since I first heard So Hyang's version (which is my favorite version with BTS's being my 2nd fav -surprisingly-), I've loved this song.

I was in a Korean rock n roll band back in the late 60's called the Devils. We sand this song in a verry similar tempo to what BTS is doing here. I guess we were about 50 years ahead of our time. I was the only American to ever be in this group and I sang Arirang in Korean, which was very unique.

As a Korean American, this song wrenches my heart every single time I hear it. Nothing logical about it. It's so unbelievably beautiful and I can't properly verbalize it. FYI I cried through this entire video.

It is so nice that you explained Arirang. Hope you keep this series going! Thanks for explaining the lyrics to people who don't understand korean and also giving us the knowledge of the social and cultural backround to see the songs in a larger picture. I think many people are keen to know more about korean culture and society and how it is represented in todays pop culture. I was at an Arirang festival myself when I was traveling Korea and didn't fully know what meaning it had, other than it just being a traditional form of music. So thanks for broadening my knowledge. Keep it up!

I have recently travelled with other army to South Korea and explored Busan, Daegu and Seoul. It was amazing seeing a little bit of the culture, hearing the language, blending in with locals and experiencing the vibe and atmosphere of the streets.
The people were friendly and so welcoming. Even if they didn't understand much English they were all trying to help us out.
I have fallen in love with all 3 cities and I cannot wait to come back and explore some more. Maybe learn the language also...I will try at least :)

Thank you so much for making this video. I wish there were more of these made. Many times the direct translations can be difficult to understand without the cultural background. You enriched the experience so much by explaining them in this way. I was familiar with Chinese culture and a little with Japanese but was fairly ignorant about Korean culture before discovering BTS. It may have started with the beauty of the music videos but that led to learning about BTS members then the idol industry. Which soon lead to trying to understand Korean culture, history and people. Which led to exploring the food, the beauty products and the fashion. Next trying to learn the alphabet in hopes I can one day understand without subtitles. I am currently exploring what sights to see when I am able to visit one day. It has been endlessly fascinating and enriched my life. Lastly, I will include an appeal to your Mother. I am a 58 year old mother of two and I watch your sons videos. Please let your son continue. We appreciate so much what he does to help us understand Koreans. ❤️

Thank you, David, for explaining this so clearly. The example clips you used have me even more fascinated by Korean traditional culture and history. From the clips, I heard echos of Jimin's unique vocal style (or isn't it more the other way around?) and now I wonder how much traditional singing styles influenced him. Thanks so much for showing us what we don't even know we would want to learn! 💜💜

Thank you so much guys for breaking down the lyrics & highly possible meanings of BTS's (and other Korean artists') songs for us, while also leaving room for interpretation. I only discovered their cover of this wonderful traditional folk song a while ago, so it's super meaningful to see this now.
I'd also love to see more videos that deal with other aspects of Korean culture, traditions & history, if possible. I find your explanations pretty straightforward & detailed too.
Thanks once again & keep going! 🔥💜
