Good morning team! It's my hope everyone made it through another holiday, without problems. Gil, you are absolutely correct, and I wouldn't use any other words to describe it. They are certainly hanging Sorokin out to dry. That one point isn't the only thing that needs changing. There are several issues to go through, but making the attempt to keep your goaltender fresh, should be up at the top of the list. Coming up, we have the Penguins on a back to back. This should be amusing, to say the least. Can we possibly get 3 points out of them? We certainly could use it. I'm sure we'll speak more on that subject on tomorrow's episode. Everyone, have a great day! If you're at home relaxing, I'm jealous. If you're out an about today, please stay safe. See you all again tomorrow. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
I doubt they could take 3 points in 2 games from the Pens, but I'd love to see it. Yes, they are hanging Sorokin out to dry and I'm shocked that Roy of all people would do that. Thanks for the comment, Tony. LGI
Problem is Pelech and Pulock both have NTCs so they'd have to waive them. I believe Casey and Pageau have modified NTCs. I would trade either Pelech or Pulock but not both. Won't be easy to move some of those contracts. Thanks for the comment, alexyaybar. LGI
Sorokin should share part of the blame. He is so inconsistent. Stop blaming the defense for all of it. Roy's moves r strange at times Palmeiri Nelson Cizakis and Pelech should be traded.
There seems to be a disconnect between Roy and Sorokin. Not sure why. Not sure Roy is doing a good job. He's well known and respected around the league, but does that make him a good coach? When Roy coach Colorado, his first year won coach of the year and then the Avalanche didn't make the playoffs the following two years and was fired. He's not Trotz, let me put it this way.
I'm questioning his impact with this team now, too, MrAschiff. I don't know if any coach could get much out of this roster, and ultimately, that's the root of the problem. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
I used to think that every player on the islanders was tradeable except for Sorokin, Barzal, Dobson, and Horvat. I no longer feel that way. There are no longer any "untouchables" on this roster. Comparing the Islander organization to the Rangers organization, the Rangers have traded their captain, a former #2 overall pick, they're shopping Zibanajed, Kreider and now even testing the waters on Adam Fox. They just won the President's trophy last season! Meanwhile, the Islanders are in last place in the Metro, we lose Wally for nothing, we resign Matt Martin (no disrespect to Matty), our AHL team is in last place, and our prospect pool is among the bottom third in the whole league! How does LL still have a job?!?!
I don't know how he has a job. Three years and counting without a playoff series win isn't a good track record. Add the lack of prospects and bad contracts with NTCs and you're got a real mess. Thanks for the comment, Another_User_Name_. LGI
I don't know. I think he should have been let go after last season and maybe even the year before. The sooner they let him go the better it is for the franchise. Thanks for the comment, christophercancel934. LGI
Short term issues, long issues. That's what happens when louzer gm has to pay 30 his long term worth leaving back-up to broken down 35 year old 40 with nothing but journeyman/ahl caliber goalies in ahl not nhl caliber to call up. Louzer can't even pluck a goalie off of waivers with no cap room. Way to protect your investment in injury scenario louzer-just let 30 be overtaxed in goal. And the whole world except louzer knows isles should SELL SELL SELL by tdl. 29, 21, ufa's need to go. Doubtful contender bites on 27, 44. Should be shopping 3, 6, 24. I'd even look into what 8 could get in a deal before sinking 8x8 into future cap. Perhaps 13 as well-see what trade worth is in his prime. 10 sell high on NOW. No excuse for tdl failure, additions, trading first by louzer. His mishandling of and losing 26 for free is a fireable offense. Isles need picks, cap relief. I dread these two + months leading up to tdl and what kind of future damage louzer can do as isles tumble down the east standings. A prompt tailspin and louzer firing is what isles need. That 7-1 debacle vs. sabres was a blessing in disguise. It exposed isles for the frauds they are-nowhere near playoff caliber team. Weak, old, don't care anymore. The comfy country club mfkrs need to go.
I think Lee and Pageau would be attractive to contenders at the deadline even if the Isles would either have to retain a little salary or take less in return. I'd move 3 or 6 but not both and both do have full NTCs so they'd have to agree to any trade. Firing Lou is the only real solution because he refuses to retool or rebuild. If he re-signs Brock and Palmieri things will get much worse. Thanks for the comment, Steven. LGI.
@@douglemay7989 Then what is wrong with 40? 40 has always been injury plagued. at his age that is called broken down or can't go the whole season. that is life with a fkn old ass roster.
Hey Gil - All I'm going to say is it any surprise that Lou is a terrible judge when it comes to talent in all 3 facets of a hockey team ( Forwards, Defenseman and now Goaltending ). Although I just want to say this When Lou took this job he was losing Halak and so he picked up a guy not many from Long Island ever heard of in Robin Lehner although as a goalie myself I was happy to have Robin here, Anyway Lehner has one of the best Isles seasons for a goalie including being a runner up for the Vezina and Lou basically forces him to leave so he can sign Varlamov to help bring Sorokin here which wasn't a sure thing at the time. So he takes a winning tandem and breaks them up only because he wanted to and now look at what happened with Robin and Griesser after they left Long Island and all so he can have his Russian Goaltenders and in consecutive years they both were hurt for long stretches and now the only guy they could afford to bring in cheap Magnus Hogberg they don't trust to play so they risk hurting Sorokin again smh. How does Lou still have his job still and I think it's a slap in all the fans faces by this ownership.
Great to hear from you ssbouncer. Yeah, Lou doesn't hasn't done a great job of judging talent and he's been terrible at building the prospect pool. The organization is hurting big time under his leadership and it's past time for change. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
He is a big part of that locker room, but the team isn't winning and won't get significantly better without a roster overhaul. It's a tough call because I really like Lee and all he's done for the franchise. Thanks for the comment, Pokerjohn95. LGI
At the deadline they might be able to move Pageau especially since he has just one more year left on his deal after this season. Until this year, Pageau had too many years left and wasn't living up to the $5 million salary. Thanks for the comment Bigtime1972. LGI
I think a contender may be willing to acquire Pageau at the deadline. His inflated salary may mean we won't get a lot in return but I think we can move him. Thanks for the comment, marymarzulli7895. LGI
if they start sorokin in back to backs....im gonna flip....similarly if they bring back varly early and risk both varly and sorokin's health cause they can't trust hogberg for ONE game...im going to flip
It makes no sense to sign Hogberg and then refuse to start him for even one game. Seems Lou and Roy are not on the same page again. Thanks for the comment, foleydvm. LGI
Absolutely correct I think. He had 1good year. He is so inconsistent. His goals against average r going to go up. Give Hogberg a shot. What do u have to lose
this team has no talent. their most talented players (barzal, horvath, nelson) are "above average" players at best. i give them credit for working hard and getting opportunities but when they cant put the puck in the net, it is due to lack of talent. some of the shots they take...my grandmother could stop. they are also one of the oldest teams in the league. as far as goalie sorokin is concerned, yes he makes big saves at times, but he also lets in stinkers. when you are trying to hug the post on your knees, and the puck goes in over your shoulder on the short side, well thats bad...really bad. ive seen lots of goalies in the league let up goals like this. time for the owner to run a full page ad in the paper telling the fans they are starting over and expect some losing for the next couple of years (it almost worked for the rangers). coach roy is not the problem. bill torrey didnt get rid of al arbour after AA had playoff losses from 76 to 79 before finally winning the cup in 80. yes, give goalie hogberg some starts and lets see what happens.
Richard, I agree it's past time to retool or rebuild. And the talent level is the biggest problem. Add bad contracts, NTCs and that Lou traded away picks and prospects to chase 8th place in the conference and you have the crux of the team's problems. Yes, Sorokin lets in some stinkers. I hope they let Hogberg start a game or two. The team needs a new GM. Thanks for the comment and LGI.

I agree about trading Brock and Kyke . However , if thats the case then we should also trade Casey and JPG and Pelech and Pulock
MAJOR REBUILD!!!!
The Isles have players that will make a good team better
This team is hideous

I agree with you Gil 100%. Ilya had surgery in the off-season. Over-abusing him and wearing him down will be detrimental to his future. LGI
Again seems like Roy and Lou are not on the same page. Thanks for the comment, Darrell. Have a great weekend and LGI.
How much of Iya’s problems are because of the team in front of them, though?
I'm sure the majority of them, but you still can't run him into the ground either way. Thanks for the comment, JeffreyWeaver-t2t. LGI.
THIS DEFENSE IS A PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!
One of many, jaktripz64, but yes, it is. So is the lack of offense, depth, physicality and intensity. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
So is the offense, the PP, and the PK.
