Keith’s the type of dude to put mitered solid walnut edge banding on the part of the cabinet that will never be seen. Kudos Keith, your work is ridiculously high quality.
Hi Keith, you could put threaded inserts in the underside of the shelf and threads on the top end of the posts with the bottom just resting on the cabinet top. Then there won't be any holes in the top of the cabinet so it could be re-used without the shelf if desired. Also, attaching felt under the posts would help minimise damage to the cabinet top.

Thanks! I used a heat gun quite a bit, but I think since the consistency of the mix was so thick and I used the faster drying hardener, the bubbles just didn't have a chance to make it to the surface and pop off.
Love it love it and I’m soooooo happy you used brass powder with epoxy!!! I wanted to use it in a project recently but didn’t have materials on hand and was concerned it’d look awful. Now I’m not so thanks a bunch! Love those dynamic edges with the deep chamfers, love the French cleats, love it all

Great video. I'm interested in seeing how you dial in the epoxy brass inlays. I tried that on my own project and it didn't come out very well. I tried a similar process, went through the grits with the steel wool, but the color came out dull and I could tell it wasn't real brass. I'm wondering if the gold mica powder made the difference or if I did something wrong. It's just not nearly as shiny and realistic as what Copper Pig was able to get. I'll have to keep trying because it looks so neat when done correctly.
What I learned from Paul was you need way more powder than you think which is what gives you that thick peanut butter-like consistency. Otherwise, the powder will settle to the bottom and the top will be dull.
Hi Keith. Great video, thanks. Lots of shared knowledge. At 5:28 you say the doors will get 1/2" walnut banding on the edge so you trace lines with a 1/2" setup block. I am a little confused here because in the outro scene there seems to be the 1/2" walnut banding but also a reveal that looks like 1/8". So how do you take the reveal into account when you trace the door with the setup block? can you explain? Thanks a lot for the dedictaion you put in your inspiring videos.
Great question! Unfortunately, this was 2 years ago and I don't quite remember. LOL. My usual reveals are 3/32", so I must have taken an additional 3/16" off the bottom and 1 side to account for that before applying edge banding.

Hey Wild Man! Another great build 👍🏻. About the floating shelf brackets, just yesterday a “relative” wanted a small favor, I cringed. All he wanted was for me to drill a few 1/2” holes 5” deep in the edge a 3/4” board so he could put up a floating shelf for his daughter to put BOOKS on. Using the brackets you used! I tried to explain but he’s a bit of a moron. SANITY PLEASE!

Anyway I cleaned them up and sharpened them and then built one of the finest boxes to hold them from walnut my Dad and I cut from a big tree in 1971 then shipped it to my younger brother. Really like the simple elegant design on this one Keith. Quick question, when you apply Rubio to your projects is it just one coat and done? Is that why it’s called mono coat?
Thanks Brian! And yes, one coat is all that is recommended, but I always apply a second coat to raise the sheen level. Also, I find walnut generally needs a second coat anyway because it doesn’t seem to fully absorb the Rubio in all areas when the wood is real dry.

Really like the simple elegant design on this one Keith. Quick question, when you apply Rubio to your projects is it just one coat and done? Is that why it’s called mono coat?
Thanks Brian! And yes, one coat is all that is recommended, but I always apply a second coat to raise the sheen level. Also, I find walnut generally needs a second coat anyway because it doesn’t seem to fully absorb the Rubio in all areas when the wood is real dry.
