It’s been two years since you made this video and Frigidaire is still coming out with this exact ice maker. I purchased mine about 5 months ago and received an email about a recall. I received the exact same ice maker as the previous one, so hopefully they made some improvements.
Your video was very helpful in the instructing me to install it without having to wait three weeks for a repair man to come and install it.

Frigidaire didn't really do jack. I heard about the recall too due to some white chips or material breaking off and getting into the ice. Supposedly they had made a new version of the ice maker, but when I got it, it looked to be the same thing. So I thought perhaps it was made out of different materials. NOPE! 2 weeks after installation it stopped making ice. (OK, not completely stopped, but it makes ice very slowly). Now 6 months later, the white chips have returned. I am under a service contract from the company I had bought the unit from, and they were out to my home no less than EIGHT (that's right 8) times. As of now I am trying to get a hold of the original salesperson so we can move forward from there. While I might get an entire new refrigerator out of this, it does mean that I am going to have to go back to researching them, finding out which ones are energy efficient...yada, yada. I am really not looking forward to that. As a whole the Frigidaire refrigerator I have is fine. Yes, I had some problems in the beginning, but all were rectified with the exception of this stupid ice maker. I think what might be a better alternative is to just replace it with an after market unit. I would figure that by now it is out there that these units are trouble. Yet, Frigidaire doesn't seem to be doing anything about it. So I am wondering if someone has replaced one of these flex tray ice makers with something better.

You saved my life. Our plumber installed the ice maker. And the next day the ice holder box was one huge ice cube. No ice cubes were made. So I found your video, took the cover off and then slid the ice maker forward to find that the water hose was BELOW the little curved slide for the water. Thank you soooooo much for telling me how to take it apart. I would never have been able to figure that out.

I just returned a brand new Frigidaire frig to Lowes because it required this POS ice maker. I bought it because it was “identical” to the one I had for 15 years and thought I could use the ice maker that I replaced last year but NOOOOO. They had changed the hookup and I had to buy this new one for $150. Upon seeing this video I returned the frig and got a Whirlpool that takes an ice maker with the heat element like the one I had for 50 bucks cheaper. I like the Whirlpool better because all I had to install was hang the unit in the freezer and it was very easy. Hookup the water hose on the back because all the piping was already on the frig. It was ice-maker ready. And the Frig was cheaper than the Frigidaire too boot. Thank you for keeping me from enduring a bad Ice-maker for the nest decade.

Thanks Dan! Perfect and clear explanation. The seller sent an installer team to install the icemaker after the refrigerator had been delivered.
It never worked and it actually leaked water in the bottom of the freezer. I turned the icemaker off and I have not been able to get the insyallers back.
I decided to fix it myself and yiour video was great. When I tried to take the cover off, I ended up breaking the little tab holding the cover.
I finally figured out that the screws were too tight and I ended up removing the icemaker tray assembly itself first and using a Phillips screwdriver, I loosened the three screws holding the cover. The cover slid out easily after that. After trying to reassemble everything I realized that the two screws holding the assembly with the ice tray were too tight as well and the assembly had not clicked in completely.
I have reassembled everything and I am keeping my fingers crossed ... :-)
    Thanks again for your video.

Wonderful wonderful wonderful.....I'd been trying to get that wiring harness out for about 3 days. Even had a borescope in there to see whether it had to be pinched from the sides. I ended up breaking the clip at the top the same as yours but finally got that thing out. Thank you Dan - you have a new subscriber.
Incidentally I've just dissected the one I took out - I'm in disbelief at the complexity and the cheapness of the build. The three wires are neutral, live and voltage out from a relay which presumable actuates the water valve. Live and neutral go to a full bridge rectifier, transformer and switching regulator to power up a processor and motor drive and sensor circuitry. They didn't even bother to put connectors on the board for the motor and sensor wires ... they're just squeezing the metal traces on the pcb with cutouts on the pcb to prevent lateral movement. Shake that thing hard enough and those flimsy connections would just fall off I think. All the other ICs and transistors are blob mounted so I didn't want to waste any more time on this piece of ... ice maker....just suffice to say it's not easily repairable.
Thanks once again ... the answer I'd been looking for.

Excellent video, thanx! A few people have asked about the reset button to the right of the on off button. In my research I found out if you push it along with the power button and hold it for three seconds, it goes into a mode where you can program the size of the ice cubes. One light blink is small, two is medium, three and four are bigger. Hope the thing lasts more than a year though.

@@danjiles Just went through your procedure on removal (I kinda jacked the plug in the back and shied away from actually unplugging the ice maker itself, but inspected the tray which looked shiny still.), and came to the conclusion that with our hard SoCal water, the 1-2 year life of the inline filter looks to be roughly 9 months. Switched it out, light is no longer blinking (yay!) and I'm betting on ice being ready for happy hour.

Any tips for having the tray turn a full 180 to drop the ice out, I have to manually lower the arm so that it knows the bin is empty and then it will continue to rotate to dump. Frigidaire sent a replacement and that one only turns 45 and I can't get it to keep turning to 180 to dump as the arm will not let me lower further. This tray model is actual by EMZ model ANC A11127913 and it is used in different Frigidaire in freezer ice makers. Turning/powering off, waiting, and then on doesn't reset or fix. Pressing the little ice icon in front doesn' t resolve problem just fills tray with water.

Dan -- you are correct that this style is a POS. I got a new fridge 2 years ago with this style. The first problem was really slow ice production. Several hours of internet and I discovered there are 3 settings for cube size. This info is not in the manual. I changed from the smallest to the largest and it then made a reasonable amount, still not as much as the old style. About a year in the circuit board failed. I replaced the unit and now after another year the replacement stopped working. Soooo I intend to adapt the old style …. As you know they work great.
I need to figure the wiring as the old have 4 wires and this has 3 … but I think it is simply that the new one has no ground wire. I will also may have to do some creative tubing if the inlet does not line up. This really. Is a POS. If you have any suggestions please weigh in.

Quick question (I hope): Will a Frigidaire (French door) still run normally if you remove the ice maker and don't replace it? Some people prefer the extra space and don't want the bother of a water line hookup. To be fair all of them have reverted back to flex tray-style even Whirlpool in their side-by-side models with the ice maker in the door. Maybe it's the advancement in plastics today or it just makes larger cubes. Who knows LG and Samsung also use this style mostly? so it left to be seen where reliability is concerned. Frigidaire is using this style for french door for some time so it's natural they use it on top mount and unify the lineup.

@@danjiles I bought a GoPro hero 7 Black awhile back before the 8 came out & I haven't even opened it yet. I'm just so used to using my phone to film. I totally understand. Ive tried shooting with my GoPro and also the DJI Osmo Action. I find the style a little off. you have to have really good lighting for the footage to look good. That's why I went for the Point and Shoot Cameras that do well in low light situations. A cell phone is a good tool, they have gotten really good on video and deal really good with low light. Keep up the good work.

We just got this fridge and instillation seemed easy for the ice maker. However there is no water flowing to the ice maker. We have checked all the connections, made sure there were no kinks in the copper hose water line or the plastic tubing that leads to the top of the fridge, and made sure that the water was on. Suggestions on why nothing is happening?

Hi, I just installed this ice maker in a new fridge my question is how does it know when the ice bucket is full. I see the arm on the side of the ice tray i thought it would pull down but it does not. I was going to pull it back out & look at it , but i thought you might know? wanting to understand how it works.

    • @BrandonTobiasKingT

when the tray flexes or just before it drops the ice the arm will come down to see if the bin is full or not.

Thanks Dan, GREAT VIDEO, unfortunately this is the exact model that came with my new refrigerator. Installation wasn't too bad but found NO documentation on the actual operation and any user controls. At first, all I saw was the green power button....on/off, ok that's easy. But without reading your viewers comments, I'd still be up &^$&^% creek. Once installed is there a correct sequence or set-up procedure to get this unit working correctly? Took about 5-6 hours to make it's first batch of tiny "cubes". If anyone has a link to any user-friendly instructions, I'd appreciate it. Dan, thanks again.

SOLVED: Order some Taylor food-safe silicon lube (blue tube). Remove the icemaker and let everything melt off. Apply the lube everywhere in the tray. Reinstall icemaker. Been going strong for a week now. It's either the thawing or the lube... worth a shot!

We started installing these units in June of ’21 , 98 of them. Lots of problems, some of the most common ones are ( upon arrival )
-Light not working due to warped door
-Small green water line pinched or loose and leaking
    -Bad computer boards
-power issues with wiring harness too taught
    - icemakers- leaking, freezing up
    - bad compressor/ loss of butane- which was unrepairable due to no trained technicians to work with butane anywhere near New York state (4 total)
    Not my favorite either Dan

Would anyone happen to know if there is an aftermarket substitute for this style of ice maker? I am experiencing the same problems as Dan outlines here and I was a part of that recall in which there was white chips that were coming off into the ice. However, the replacement is no better. It made ice for two weeks and then stopped. I almost NEVER have a full ice bin. While what was in there is fine for my family, there is NO WAY I could use the ice maker for a party. So I had to go out and buy a separate unit that works on its own. However, I want to rectify the situation with my Frigidaire refrigerator as the main reason I bought it was because of the ice maker. Would anyone know if there is an after market ice maker that would fit into the Frigidaire that is a different design, but fits in the same spot as the original. Any help would be much appreciated.
