  • Mount Sarakura is a 622m mountain in Yahatahigashi-ku, Kitakyūshū City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. This mountain is a part of Kitakyūshū Quasi-National Park. During World War II, an anti-aircraft gun battery site was set up on the summit. From there, it fired at the B-29 bomber corps of the United States Army Air Forces. Today, the summit is lined with antennas for TV and FM broadcasts.
The Sarakurayama Cable Car is a funicular line that connects Sanroku Station and Sanjo Station with a distanc 1.1km and height difference 440m. The gauge is 1067mm (3 ft 6 in) , and the maximum inclination is 27.8° (528‰). It opened in 1957.
From 1957 to 2000, Hitachi vehicles were used on this line, but since 2001, vehicles manufactured by CWA in Switzerland (Current Doppelmayr Garaventa Group) have been used. The passenger capacity is 112 people.
The slope car is a small automated monorail, or a fusion between monorail, people mover, and rack railway. It is a registered trademark of KAHO Manufacturing Co.,Ltd in Iizuka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. The system was originally used at construction sites and orchards on slopes, but in recent years it has come to be used like elevators and escalators in parks and the like.
The Sarakurayama Slope Car was opened in 2007 as a replacement for the chairlift. The mileage is 159.5m, the height difference is 50m, the passenger capacity is 40 people, and the slope changes from 3 °(52‰) to 22 °(404‰), but the vehicle is equipped with a mechanism to keep the floor horizontal.
