The Ctrl-key there is only used to select another object, which is at that moment I selected both texts on track 3 and track 1.

(Media matte) effect is not available in 2020 version, can you please help me in this.

On the left side of the Timeline, you can find a little eye icon for each track, right-click on it to apply the Matte mode which works the same as the Media Matte in the 2021 version
