It's really tough to hear A/B compression comparisons on TH-cam videos, because of the re-encoding done by TH-cam. I noticed I was not hearing a huge difference - and then realized I wasn't watching the HD stream. Switch the video stream to "HD 1080p" (click on the little gear in the bottom right) and you'll get a much higher bitrate audio stream, which makes the A/B comparison much more apparent.
I just found out about Joshua and Stam. Watching videos and comparisons online I'm blown straight away by the sa76 and sa2a stuff so far - only stuff Ive looked up. I ordered both instantly! This things from what Ive heard so far are just crazy good.

Ermmm.......I appear to have a problem. I couldn't hear "any" difference in the sound even in 1080 stream. I wasted a couple of hundred pounds on two different makes of compressor as well and still couldn't hear a difference. Could compressors actually be an acoustic version of "the emperor's new clothes"?

This compressor is good, but there is only one machine with samples so wonderfully compressed to a single sound, yielding a sound with infinite density which can punch a hole in the fabric of spacetime itself and make beautiful music...

I would love to win this compressor so I can finally bring one of these home, I go to school for Audio Engineering and we have a rack of UA 1176 clones and an 1178.
The coolest thing about this to me is the different revisions, trying to compare different versions of old compressors can be tedious to set up but this makes it so easy. Also bonus points for the blue strip, definitely my favorite thing aesthetically about the Rev-A 1176.

@@ludovicomixing3739 that's just not on. But I have to say that Stam has regular competition giveaways on fb and instagram and they almost never announce winners. Go have a look. Out of say 5 comps, maybe there wil be 1 announcement/winner. Seems like the wrong way to advance your brand and try to promote a product. I've contacted them before and they dodge my questions.

I watched this yesterday and tried to ask a question (but couldn't because the video disappeared).
Anyway, I want to ask, what exactly am I trying to listen for when you have used the compressor? At 4:15, I hear you bypass and enable changes, but for the life of me, I can't figure what changed, it sounds the same to me, unless this is one of those situations where this is a "transparent" compressor, which, I do not know what that means.
Tony Lancer As someone who is currently enrolled in a program for Audio Engineering, compression is an extremely hard concept to get a grasp on, I still barely under all the ins and outs so don’t feel bad about having trouble with it.
The difference is really subtle, the 1176 this is based on has extremely fast attack times, so this is really just catching the transients (hard picked notes and the actually sound of the pick) and smooths out the rest of the audio that isn’t so loud. When he A/B’s I can hear only a tiny difference but it definitely adds more body to the sustained guitar sound while bringing the harsh transients down a little bit.
Keep in mind if you’re not watching at full 1080p TH-cam compresses the audio and any difference you might have heard won’t be so apparent any more so maybe try raising the resolution and listening again. If you have any questions feel free to message me :)

@@Evildandalo I guess because the result is so subtle, I can barely hear it. I want to know how to use a compressor but all I do is play around with some knobs and make it louder (I have a Waves CLA-76, use the Bluey preset and just play around with In/Out knobs or just use a preset).

As an audiophile i can tell you its a dark long hole just noticing the differences perceived and real when injecting switches into a topology. He was honest and admitted that sometimes it was all in his head. Ive been there. So tested different parts and their subsequent affects takes time and I’m sure this guy has a life so things take time.
