  • I wanted to make a quick video explaining how to set the timing on a first gen civic. It is common that people put the distributors in 180 deg off because they only set the engine to TDC but do not check to make sure the number 1 cylinder is at the top. You can do this by looking on the cam gear and there should be a lobe that its pointed up. Then you know your engine is correctly situated and you can pull or put back in your distributor. In this video I show you roughly where it should be at! This will get you close enough and then you should be able to use a timing light to get it perfectly dialed in! Timing should be roughly around 10 deg before TDC. Hope this helps someone. Comment if you have any questions!

Thank you for just getting to the point and showing the actual process. I had to figure out a similar thing for the 20R and every video I found with information took like 5 minutes of exposition before they showed how to do it.

Trying to figure this out for a cvcc engine. What is tdc? What is the firing order on the distributor? It's frustrating to find info on this.

I have a Cvcc I am going to be working on soon. In the video I can go over how to set the timing also. Subscribed and stay tuned👍🏼

Those 2 ports on distributor. Where did you plug them on Weber? I only have one port on Weber for vacuum

One is vacuum advance. Not sure what the other is. Cap it off or join the first gen civic group on Facebook and ask them. Lots of knowledgeable people willing to help on there

@@Mechanic_kid I did the one furthest from cap plugged to Weber the one closest to cap I am plugging. I just was making sure you did that.
Literally making a Facebook for that today. Thank you.

@@gonzaloverduzco8328 I don’t think I ever hooked them up as the car needed brake work also. But that’s a great question for the group and someone will know. Take a picture also

Do you not need to use a timing light or anything? It looks like you are just randomly finishing in a spot. How do you know "That's the spot"
