A perfect song. I haven't really much considered looking at it from the angle of him talking about a girl, but I can see it. I look at this song as a way of saying that life is the most valuable of sacred blessings. Earlier, he acted in ways that did not celebrate that fact. Now, he realizes that was a mistake and is making a change. I can definitely relate. Edit: oh, and the positive message of "I wasn't sure if I could...but I can." That is such a central component of life. I just can't get enough of this song. In a sense, it doesn't really matter whether the song is about a girl, life, or God. In the end, I think it's about devoting yourself to something bigger than you are. Whether one man looks to life itself, or some anthropomorphized form of it (God), or to a physical manifestation of one of his ethereal ideals (a woman), that's up to him. But the song is about choosing something and taking it seriously. Iguess that makes sense given that the title of the song is "The end of an anchor". Every man needs an anchor, but it's up to him to decide what it will be. What's at the end of that anchor.
Creo que la escuche de suerte en un cd de un amigo en el 2010... O 2009.. Fue.. Sublime! Solo este tema.. Es superior a los ultimos 12 años de lo que escuche! Es belleza pura!
i wasn't well for a while, i savored the things that i knew were sure to destroy me and that seemed to hold me that seemed to carry me where i couldn't go on the strength of my own but i should have known that that gets me nowhere i've learned that now, i swear
The Lead singer of the DC makes no bones about his being a Christian and some of his music is about his faith. Move on if you don't appreciate it- it's not the first song he did talking about his journey in the faith, and it won't be the last.
This is my first time hearing this song, but the lyrics are essentially a prayer to God:I was away for a whileBut I'm hoping someday you'll forgive me Though I don't deserve it I'll cherish it well if you give me one of your new startsJust one more last chance I swear that I'll earn it If you front me for now I'm good for it, I swear I'm better now, I swearIn earlier days, they'd persecute people They'd carry them off and hobble their legs For lesser offenses, than how I have harmed you And still you allow me to walk free of painThough I punish myself, I will never settleThe debts I've incurred for scorning the face Of absolute beauty and measureless graceAnd though I once mocked you I'm dying to pay for it now I'm dying to pay for it now
@@johnkreynolds86 my friend, these people found what Chris was trying to say when he wrote this song. all Christians use their talents to glorify God. Jesus loves you so much... please don't reject Him. He loves you so much He died horribly to save you... can't you see the beauty in this horrible, chaotic world ruled by evil that Jesus Christ came and preached a message of love, even for your enemies, even for the people spitting on Him and nailing Him to the cross, and then He died and rose again just for us... not because we are great, but because of how much He loves us... please just think about it... Jesus loves you so much you have no idea
@@georgewashingtonrockwell3355 prove one thing of what you are saying please. Do not simply assert that it is true. Life is so much deeper and more interesting than your bronze age fictional jesus story. Get passed it dude. True enlightenment and peace waits on the other side. I did it. You can too :)
“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” -Mahatma Gandhi I agree....wait...why are we talking about religion? oh yea b/c Christians are obssessed...
it's because Chris wrote this song to glorify God and it is very obvious in the lyrics. what people don't seem to understand is that the whole point of Christianity is that no one is righteous and we all deserve to be punished for breaking God's laws, but Jesus died horribly to take our place so we can be free. any Christian claiming to be perfect is a snake but we are commanded to spread the Word to try to lead as many souls to Christ as we can. please try to understand from a loving perspective.
It's such a shame such a great song isn't more popular...
WHY IS THIS SONG IN SPOTIFY? i love it so much its my fav from the album
It's not on Amazon Music either :(
Agreed
just came here now for this very reason 🥲
Neither in Apple music. It was there, I swear.. but I couldn’t find it now.
Me too!
the vocals paired with the guitar in this is just haunting
For me that's their best song by far. Forever and always.
A perfect song.

Very well said. I would argue this is his most "deep" song.
I wish this was on iTunes
Let's not argue, this song is beautiful, like all DC songs.
Underrated song.
gorgeous song. definitely a favorite of DC's :)
Chris said he was adding this to his setlist for the upcoming solo mini tour...lucky us!
Wow.
This song really is pretty damn good.
This song hits home on so many levels
Merry christmas...
This is... beautiful. It could be about God, maybe not. But to me, it is. It reminds me that there's reason for everything.
Never heard this song until now. Wasn't on the version of the album I've listened to.

I used to know this whole song on guitar.
Wish this was in Spotify
@j69confessional It was a bonus track on the non-US edition of the CD.
It feels like an apology that i deserved from my ex husband. It heals my heart in ways i don't think anyone understands.
So underrated
God I love this
i wasn't well for a while, i savored the things
that i knew were sure to destroy me
and that seemed to hold me
that seemed to carry me where i couldn't go
on the strength of my own
but i should have known
that that gets me nowhere
i've learned that now, i swear
Only 184k decent human beings could find their way to this video for the last 15 days.
It's A Great song.
Sounds like an early version of carry this picture.
It could just as easily be about a relationship with a girl as it is with God. People are so uptight, just enjoy the good song
i dedicate this song to the one and only person i loved and wound up hurting... :-\

Man.. I remember playing this song to a girl over the phone.. I ended up getting laid later that month..
I love this song and want to put it on my ipod! but i cant find it on TH-cam... So is there any way to download this on my ipod? (Preferably Legal)
@fulknawsm same.
That sounds somewhat evil.. if you care for someone shouldn't you want them to be happy no matter what?
why does everything have to have a religious backbone grr
too slow,i fell asleep,hehe.

How did you get God or faith in general from the lyrics? I'm failing to see how this comment is relevant to this particular song

Andy C why do the religious need to ruin songs by relating them to their vague beliefs that can literally be related to anything and nothing...
