I am not sure that is what the behind the scenes disagreement was about that. Mike acknowledged the disagreement being carried onto the air and I think the stadium issues were the result of that. I do not think the stadium issues were part of the off-air disagreement.
ThailandKyle, there were rumors since the beginning of the summer but they did work together a couple times and seemed to get along ok. Russo's announcement came on a Thursday night, 2 weeks ago, while he was on vacation. He called in the following day (while Mike was doing the show) and bid farewell.
Damn, I'm in Thailand now so I have missed out on what happened this last month or so. How long were things in limbo before it was announced that Russo was going to Sattelite? Must have been a circus for a while. Perhaps was that a dig at dog when Mike mentions he never talks about his contract on air?
My name is Frank. I think what may have caused friction is Dog wanted to go to mornings. They had fired Don Imus a year earlier and had just come up with the Boomer and Carten team for mornings. Russo was down because he wanted mornings. Francesa wanted no part of mornings.
I remember that spring during their show regarding Russos contract status and he knew that he had serious xm interested. He left because he was offered twice than wfan had payed him
Totally agree. This load needed Russo's energy to move the show along and anyone who listens knows that. Good for Chris now. He's going to make 3 times what Francessa makes now.
Mike and Maddog has elevated talk sport nationally. I find Mike to be more hostile of the two to the fans calls that's obvious he's frequently impatient with callers, with a wave of his hand to the control booth he jestures to cut'em off quickly. while he rants in a monotone voice about a issue. In Dog's/Chris case his vivacious manner keeps the show going he is as opinionated as Mike, his rants on any topic are legendary. Chris is a prankster. If these two are stupid enough to blow it then bye!
hell yeah...i never really noticed how amusing a lot of the ESPN personalities were. I find Michael Kay great. Try listening to Max Kellerman. He's on from 10-1. Very amusing.
Sports radio is supposed to be about being a jerk? That's sad that you think that way. I honestly don't remember what stands he took (it was so many years ago) but I do remember him yelling at everybody, just like Downey - another jerk.
Yeah bro.. I stop Listening to the Fan. Other then that The best guy on the FAN is Tony Paige. He is the F'N Bomb he could talk to him for couple of minutes and he never cuts you off. I bet when Chris goes to Sirius he'll allow the callers more time.
I've been saying for a while that these 2 have jumped the shark. Admittedly there's an element of jealousy in my saying that. They get by now with benefits they enjoy by virtue of the fact they've been doing it for so long, in the spot, in the same town. They have the connections, the power, the media gravitas to not only talk NY Sports, but also in many instances SHAPE NY sports. And the biggest reason they've maintained the ratings for so long... THEY HAVE NO COMPETITION IN THE NY/NJ MARKET!!!
Without Imus around,,Mike is the big kahuna on WFAN.... I would assume he would keep that time slot,,,not Chris,,Mike can make ANY partner they may give him better,,,though I hope it doesnt come to that,,My pick would be Lori Rubinstein...
ive read bill simmons talk about how he doesnt want this "couple" to split up. give me a break. almost no new yorkers like these guys. mets fans hate mike and the mad dog; nba fans hate mike and the mad dog; hockey fans hate mike and the mad dog... give me schmooze from 1-630 or beningo and roberts, and im happy.
he'll just talk his way out of it if and when you do. His word is law, gospel.. he knows EVERYTHING! He's the quintessential asshole. And Dog defers to him every step of the way... USUALLY. I don't really buy this whole break-up. I think maybe it's posturing for some sort of contract negotions. Or possibly they see the writing on the wall and don't feel anybody can compete with ESPN in the long run. ESPN has bottomless pockets and are destined to control every corner on the sports universe.
I give the video a thumbs up and thanks for the upload. But Francesa is pompous, arrogant, and a hypocrite. And Russo is not intelligent, inarticulate, and uninformed about the subject matter. Congratulations to both of them for co-existing for so long together, and for entertaining so many listeners through the years (including me). I am glad their drama is over.
the seemed to have fun at fanfest if they got rid of mike( i would rather have dog but they best together but diog is better) dog would have to make a new theme song eddie and sal could sing in the backround lol
I agree. This was obvious proof that their relationship was fractured beyond repair. The show is soooo boring without Mad Dog. I like listening to Michael Kay more now.
Mike is boring, when he is by himself i dont watch, dog is fun to watch,, why are they fighting anyway?? they r suppose to argue about sports stuff, if they agree on everything then they wouldnt have been there for 20 years, its sad that this is going on but if I had to choose one i would pick dog. he is a lot more fun and energetic
Mike's gotten a lot worse in the past few years. Everything he says is related to his infallible opinion on sports or how someone knows less than him. Supremely arrogant. And this is the same guy who stays on the air with a straight face while arguing that Kobe is in the same league as Jordan. I hope WFAN keeps Dog and gets rid of Mike, if this "split" is for real. Funny the way Mike describes it like a marriage, "we've had 7 kids." Haha.
2:54 Who knew Mike and Dog had 7 kids together?
Yeah I didn’t know that either. Crazy
i agree, mike has a knowledge of sports that is unmatched IMO. Ill miss them greatly
10 yrs later both are great 👍
David Swift right.....😂
Mikes my guy. Mad dog energy is amazing
"Say something funny Mike!" Don't go guys

are there any clips of the fighting he's talking about?
yes the yankee stadium fight is here on youtube

What was the last "beef" between the two in April of 2008 about? What was the subject matter or basis for the argument?
My name is Frank. I think what may have caused friction is Dog wanted to go to mornings. They had fired Don Imus a year earlier and had just come up with the Boomer and Carten team for mornings. Russo was down because he wanted mornings. Francesa wanted no part of mornings.
Deb Pierce I agree friend on ur comment
lol thats because mike is the straight laced guy. Russo was the off the wall character
I remember that spring during their show regarding Russos contract status and he knew that he had serious xm interested. He left because he was offered twice than wfan had payed him

Franklin was SUCH a jerk!
Made Mike, Dog and Imus look like sweethearts.

What was the fight about, does anyone know? I mean, specifically.
I believe it had to do with Chris stealing mikes underpants and telling everyone mikes size
hell yeah...i never really noticed how amusing a lot of the ESPN personalities were. I find Michael Kay great. Try listening to Max Kellerman. He's on from 10-1. Very amusing.

the only problem with mike's show is sometimes it can be a little boring
Yeah bro..

Tony Paige is a hockey illiterate. Can't produce two coherent sentences about Isles-Penguies

It's pretty clear Mike wants no part of it anymore.
Agreed
ive read bill simmons talk about how he doesnt want this "couple" to split up. give me a break. almost no new yorkers like these guys. mets fans hate mike and the mad dog; nba fans hate mike and the mad dog; hockey fans hate mike and the mad dog... give me schmooze from 1-630 or beningo and roberts, and im happy.
Yes. Continues to this day. That weirdo Francesa oblivous to what's happening in the first round with the Isles and Blue Jackets
Uh ... he's not going anywhere.
Maybe Russo finally said what most think , he carries the show.
Thank god its over.
Thoses guys are the rudest guys on radio.
and never let you say more then 5 words.
he'll just talk his way out of it if and when you do. His word is law, gospel.. he knows EVERYTHING! He's the quintessential asshole. And Dog defers to him every step of the way... USUALLY. ego clashing.

Chris Russo is on the better path going to satallite radio. Mike is going to tank, he cant run the show wout THE DOG!!!!!!!!!!
Boomerang 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ten years later I listen to Francesa more than ever. Hes better alone
