Love Priscilla Lane! That was indeed her singing- she sang with her sisters in a band. What a wonderful look. Homespun. Playful. Sincere. Adorable. And Betty field who could pull a trick or 2 out of her sleeve. And Land could have done much more with her movies but could never go all the way - save, perhaps in Hitchcock's Saboteur. But what a doll!
Hey folks! At about 1:41 I believe the brunette dancer is Irene Thomas who was in several soundies, shorts and full-length features as a contract dancer. I remember seeing several of the other dancers in other musicals as well. Since they were uncredited, it is a shame that I do not know their names. Does anyone know any names of the other dancers?
Good question...my friend in Milwaukee has a record collection of nearly 30,000 pieces mostly from 30s, 40s jazz and big band. Why Priscilla Lane and Rosemary Lane did not record more is beyond us. I could only think that they were too busy with their movies.
@@brianoyler4777 30,000 that's amazing. I think you are right, their movies probably took priority, but it is such a shame brcause they could both sing beautifully. Priscilla's rendition of This Time the Dreams on Me is the best I have heard.
@@helenletos2661 agreed...yes, he has an "out of this world" collection. He used to attend all of the music shows in the Wisconsin, Illinois area. He now only looks for those few rarities that are so difficult to find. He has been trying to find Bob Chester Orchestra on Sonora label. I can't remember exact title...something like In My Arms...not sure, but when Jazz Mart was still open in Chicago, we used to look there. We have looked at Recordsmith and ChrisKnauk auctions and of course, Ebay, Amazon, etc...we don't know whether any copies still exists. You probably like the films Four Daughters, Daughters Courageous, Four Wives, Four Mothers series all with the Lane Sisters. Fabulous stories, marvelous people...really putting a lot of today's US entertainment to shame...
Who would ever want to live in a world without Priscilla Lane , she was lovely !
So true!!!
THE SONG IS GREAT , AND SO IS SHE , AS WERE THEY ALL !
A great song by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer. A great movie scene as well. Love it.
Best arrangement and delivery of "This time the dreams on me ever"
Absolutely!
She was a very fine piano player as well as a great singer and actress.
Blues In The Night is a great old movie...

"I'll never be alone if I just stay in the groove." Jigger from Blues in the Night.
A very nice interpretation of this great American standard with a faster than usual tempo. It works well however with that particular orchestration.
This is the original performance of the song. Everything else is an "interpretation".

I can't understand why Priscilla Lane didn't record more music. She had a beautiful.voice, like honey.

Indeed!
Maybe they thought she sounded too much like Alice Faye? You're right about the voice, though; this is a treat, even with the fast tempo.
Taekook brought me here.... 💜
Did you find any full song??
Beautiful voice .... Who is singing ?
Priscilla Lane
Sweet Pat Lane! Sadly, this tune and the title tune are tossed away in the film.
Well, I don't quite know what you mean by "tossed away". Perhaps, you feel they were not represented properly, or not enough time was given.
The movie's great, but you just have to roll with it. Musical comedy turned crime drama film noir. Crazy stuff.
The clarinet player is Elia Kazan
@Jayee123 Yes, it is she
Pricilla Lane is beautiful and a wonderful singer, but Betty Field steals this picture from everyone in the cast.
Betty Field stole many films- such a talented actress!
I love the movie, but you're right. Betty played crazy extremely well here.
