I have seen it argued that Pearl was a huge turning point in his relationships and what happened to Pearl hurt Brian so much that he didn't want to get emotionally attached to the girls he dated, leading to his shallow relationships in later seasons.
The female dog from the dog show was perfect for him. Wish they kept her around as a reoccurring talking animal character like Jasper and Ernie I hated that American Dad went status quo after the purity episode with Steve. Having Steve lose his virginity or get a Canon girlfriend is a big plot point for the show

From Jillian on, so many of Brian's problems come from Peter or Lois challenging/disturbing him. Lois's judgement of Jillian in general causing Brian being insecure and making rash decisions. Lois judging Brian for Rita's age, despite Rita being an intelligent woman only 8 or so years older than Lois herself, which again, makes Brian get insecure and judge what rita does more. Peter getting obsessed with Brian's toy, breaking all of brian's teeth and then not paying for the damage Peter did himself. Stewie manipulates brian a lot, but was factually stating that Brian easily gives into what people say. In the end, It is Brian's choices and faults, but the family definitely screws him over a lot. Later seasons make it more clear that Brian is more at fault.
To be fair Brian already judged Jillian and it was clear he was only with her for her body which is why he hid her from the family. 7:47 Oh speaking of not knowing what an expression is or not knowing what something everyone knows is, I actually went through that once. This was a decade ago. Before we would ever have DoorDash or even have Uber in my area even though San Francisco just an hour south and Uber started there long before that but anyways I was working at Olive garden and when I told people there about a riddle that I recently heard from the Riddler on an animated Batman movie that was relatively new at the time, they understood me and while most the time I didn't figure out the riddle until I gave them the same hint over and over for some of them they figured out, when I brought up at my second job I had at the time at Popeyes I kid you not multiple people there I talked to about it had no idea what a riddle is. I mean who doesn't even know what that is? And no there wasn't some kind of language barrier. I had to try to explain the definition of the word riddle before I can even tell them the riddle. It ruined the fun. There were other ways that my co-workers at Popeyes were really dumb that would take way too much time to explain, including actually not doing the job as trained and well doing things wrong but just going ahead and doing them that way anyways even after I was trained to do it the right way For example, but yeah I didn't stay with that job for very long. It was not fun being around people who were this incredibly dumb. I've worked at fast food places before that and did not have this issue. Anyways the riddle which some people who I worked with at Olive garden figured it out when I gave them the same hint repeatedly is "What's something that belongs to you but everybody uses more than you?"

7:47 Oh speaking of not knowing what an expression is or not knowing what something everyone knows is, I actually went through that once. This was a decade ago. Before we would ever have DoorDash or even have Uber in my area even though San Francisco just an hour south and Uber started there long before that but anyways I was working at Olive garden and when I told people there about a riddle that I recently heard from the Riddler on an animated Batman movie that was relatively new at the time, they understood me and while most the time I didn't figure out the riddle until I gave them the same hint over and over for some of them they figured out, when I brought up at my second job I had at the time at Popeyes I kid you not multiple people there I talked to about it had no idea what a riddle is.
I mean who doesn't even know what that is? And no there wasn't some kind of language barrier. I had to try to explain the definition of the word riddle before I can even tell them the riddle. It ruined the fun. There were other ways that my co-workers at Popeyes were really dumb that would take way too much time to explain, including actually not doing the job as trained and well doing things wrong but just going ahead and doing them that way anyways even after I was trained to do it the right way For example, but yeah I didn't stay with that job for very long. It was not fun being around people who were this incredibly dumb. I've worked at fast food places before that and did not have this issue.
