The production and mixing on this album is phenomenal. Valotus having that angelic reverb piano just appear out of the chaos is a stroke of genius. It’s a rare experience to listen to a track and feel genuine disbelief. Masterpiece.

Had my first listen to this today. What a journey! Going to take a few spins to fully understand and appreciate what is going on but definitely intriguing!

Been listening to this all day. Between this album and Blood Incantation last week, its been a great week for cosmic, spacey, weird metal
    I dig it

    Excellent review!!
Love the album, consider it already a classic!!
Favourite tracks - the closer, Hautatuuli, Voitelu, Ikikaarme and the title track!!
I want more trip-hoppish Oranssi Pazuzu!!

Thanks so much for the kind words there Helen! I think that Ikikaarme is my favourite but really love Hautatuuli too. Trip Hop Pazuzu is the way haha - appreciate you checking out the video too!

Initial impressions of Muuntautuja: This is a really strange journey of a listen, but I genuinely enjoyed it. There were many instances where I felt like the instrumentation could be used as a hip-hop sample. Mestarin kynsi was certainly more immediate, and I do enjoy it more; however, I'm excited to give this album more time!

Totally! There was more of an emphasis on electronics and hip hop on this one which I think is so cool to say about a Black Metal record. Honestly, for me there's no one out there that sounds like them! Truly visionary.

Hello from the states! I've been a fan since Varahtelija! Loved the waste of space Orchestra side project as well! Thanks for shining a light on one of the more obscure metal bands out there!

Hello back from the UK! No worries at all. I love this band so much and I really think that they’re doing something totally different to anyone else out there. I also love WOSO - great one off project that one. There’s another project which features one of the members of OP - I think it’s got like pink and green artwork and looks like a kind of hallway.
What do you think of Muuntautuja??

Haha me too!! I’ve been spinning it a hell of a lot since I received it as a promo and while it wasn’t quite as immediate as Mestarin it’s just a great record overall. Definitely in my album’s of the year for sure

The start of the album reminded me of Broken/Downward Spiral era NIN when I first heard it.
Haven't really processed the full album yet though. I loved the previous album, but this is even more out there... But I'll definitely going back for another listen. It is really intriguing.

Definitely, it's one of them that definitely takes a little longer than you would think but also rewards with repeat listens again and again and again. It's a really fascinating record and I have to say, as much as I loved Mestarin Kynsi, I am finding myself drawn back to this one more frequently! Which is weird.
I reckon because it's dark but also chill at the same time haha
