TACLOBAN CITY, LEYTE: Join me on a solo adventure through the soon to be demolished slum of Barangay 37. The appearance of a National Geographic cameraman drinking Red Horse in the slum caused quite a commotion amongst the locals that afternoon 😁 Along with its neighbouring slums in the heart of Tacloban City, they are notorious for their filth, squalor and poverty. Despite the challenges faced by this community, the happy and friendly locals are known for their vibrant and resilient spirit. In this video, I take you on a solo tour through the narrow, noisy and dirty alleyways of Barangay 37, to witness the poverty ridden lives of the Filipinos who call this their home.

We continue on this intimate and heart warming adventure, as we witness the reality of daily life in the slum of Barangay 37, and the resilience and determination of the human spirit. As we delve deeper into this poverty ridden community, we witness it's shabby makeshift homes, whilst experiencing the warmth and hospitality of the friendly and welcoming Filipinos living there. We chat with the locals and gasp in amazement at how they maintain such a happy and vibrant spirit, despite living daily amidst such filth, squalor and poverty.
We hear the community share the City Government's plans to demolish neighbouring Barangays and relocate its residents to a distant slum. Sadly this friendly, welcoming, unique and vibrant community, a tribute to the strength and determination of its people, will soon be lost forever. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to capture and document the lives of this impoverished, yet happy and friendly community for the world, before it is sadly destroyed forever.
