I watched it because the interview was done very close to my date of birth, and love Letterman but conversely knew nothing of Rich. I didnt expect a goon, no, nor did I want one but I got one in you.     What an absolute gentleman, Roger Moore was distraught, when he sadly passed, as they were very close friends, despite the films. God bless you Richard, you're part of my childhood!

      He was born again. He wrote a biography. My mom used to make shirts for him. The shirts looked like tents if I'd put one on. Once my brother and I picked him up at the airport. He would be surrounded. He would talk to everyone. Was a very humble man.

    In real life Richard Kiel was hilarious.
    The joke about the gap in his teeth was both self-deprecating and a little dig at Dave and you can see it took Dave completely by surprise.

    I worked at a large teaching hospital it the late '90's. His photos with sick kids were displayed and come to find out he had a reputation for visiting kids all over. CLASS ACT.

    Flew out of Fresno back in 1985 and Mr Kiel was also a passenger. This was before cellphones and selfie’s. He signed autographs and took pic with anyone who had asked. Heck of a nice guy. Thanks

      Same here. Met him at a convention around 2010. He was clearly in pain and was drowsy from the painkillers he was on, but he took the time to greet every fan with a smile. I told him that nobody scared the crap out of me as a kid and made me laugh so hard as an adult like he did. He took my hand and laughed. I'm a big guy myself, 6'3" and 250lbs., but his absolutely engulfed mine. Absolutely wonderful man.

      I passed ways with him too within a few years before his passing it was late 2011 but I didn't speak because he was apparently with his family and didn't want to disturb him but it was at The Grand Canyon during the holidays it was eather Thanksgiving or Christmas. But he looked over at me and greeted although he wasn't feeling well as I could tell.

    My son met Richard and his wife at DFW airport, he'll never forget how kind he was to him. When my son shook his hand, my son told me, "Dad, my hand disappeared!"....So would mine son!

    He was great in the original The Longest Yard movie from 1974 . Richard played quite a few hilarious characters over the years of his career .

      I loved the scene in the Longest Yard when Connie Shockner broke Samson’s nose. Samson said he didn’t want to play football anymore and said Shockner broke his nose on purpose. Then Crew yelled at Shockner, “ TELL HIM YOU’RE…tell him you’re sorry”.

    Just a few short years before his passing, he was at the California State Fair in Sacramento, selling still prints from his motion pictures. If you purchased any prints, he would pose with you, with one of his many gruesome expressions, so I did, and my daughter snapped the photo, which I treasure very much. Indeed, a very kind and intelligent gentleman, with a great sense of humor. RIP Richard Kiel.

      It's (usually) because they never have to experience bullying so they grow up to be pretty well adjusted. They also (usually) don't have anything to prove to anyone since it's generally accepted that they could kick anybody's ass if they wanted to.

Where I grew up in Dungarvan, Co Waterford in the RoI, there were the three brothers Jamey, Jimmy and Ernie O'Brien. They were, in age and in size (at that time, 1960), 16, 18 and 20 - 6'8", 6'9" and 6'10". If they ever heard of anyone being bullied, they turned up. Bullying over!

    That's not what I expected having never heard Kiel in an interview before.... Kiel comes off as smart, funny and genuine. Letterman didn't give him a proper interview - seemed like he had lots of great stories.

      He and Ted Cassidy both had great voices. Kiel played The Incredible Hulk in the pilot and Cassidy did the voice (grunts & roars).

    Richard was a tremendous talent who was a strong Christian man. I loved him in the James Bond movies, the wild wild west, and Cannon Ball Run movies.

    You don't expect such an imposing man to be witty and funny. Both Letterman and the audience were too much in awe of him to even notice most of his jokes, which were brilliant! I almost barfed when he put his hand on Letterman and you could the blood leaving Letterman's face.

    I was a Bellman on the Las Vegas Strip 20 years ago, I met many celebrities, But Richard was the most Star Struck moment, As a huge James Bond fan I couldn’t believe I was face to face with Jaws. He tipped me $20, nice guy. And let me tell you he was Huge in person.

    I met him at a convention shortly before he passed. He was a very kind, interesting man. I bought his book about the original Cassius Clay, good read - I'm probably the only person to get a photo with him without him putting his tremendous hand over my face lol. RIP Mr Kiel

    I actually met this guy and his family at los angels international airport actually walked up and talked with him and his family they were all very nice great guy saw him in Burt Reynolds movies 🎥 back in the day 👍

    What a lovely guy!!! As a kid he was for me one of the scariest characters on TV/film, together with Lou Ferrigno as Hulk... I'd excitedly look forward to seeing them, yet I would have to hide under the sofa as soon as they appeared in a scene, watch them with my eyes half covered by my hands😂

    He was in the original "Longest Yard," Jaws in two James Bond movies, played all the aliens featured in the classic T. Zone episode "To Serve Man", and he was both the Diablero and Per Malfait in "Kolchak: The Night Stalker." Quite a memorable career.

    Richard Kiel was born in Detroit, Michigan and played the strongman in the movie Roustabout with Elvis and also played in the Clint Eastwood movie Pale Rider. Great interview!

    He sent me a short letter in 90 or 91 with his picture when I was a soldier taking part in operation Desert Storm over in the Persian gulf. Lived next door to my Aunt in CA I guess and she asked him to. Don't know how I got to this video, it was just there so I clicked on it.

    My first job was as a delivery driver for a Chinese Restaurant in 1988. I took an order to a hotel in downtown Colorado Springs, and this giant dude opened the door. He was in town for a church event. Of course I recognized him. Every 80’s kid knew who Jaws was. We chatted for a bit but I don’t remember what we talked about. He was so nice though. I do vividly remember how enormous yet soft his hands were when we shook hands. And that’s my Richard Kiel story. RIP.

    I've only really seen Richard, Andre the Giant and The Big Show, in any lengthy interviews where they really opened up as for as Giants are concerned. Each one of them also have Giant senses of humor. How ironic.....the man who looks like he can chew you into two pieces can have you bent over laughing in two pieces. Great Guy!!
