    I had a upholstery shop install some 30 gauge vinyl last year replacing my back window and after a year it started to look like this as well. Great video. I would love to see a video showing an affordable option for replacing the plastic back window with a glass one.

    Your channel has inspired me to work on my 1997 986. So far I've replaced the (ugly original) wheels with 18" Cayman wheels, replaced the trunk and frunk shocks, fixed a non-functioning driver's seat electric back adjust, fixed the louvers I accidentally disconnected in the HVAC vents when I removed cup holders from them. Still on my to do list is fix a broken piece of trim around the convertible mechanism that rattles like mad and refurbish the leather seats. I'm also considering doing the mod where you replace the convertible's top front location points with 987 ones to reduce the creaking of the top when up - anyone have experience with that?

    Looks great! Love all your Boxster videos. I’ve just purchased a lovely lapis blue 986 2003 here in the UK. I won’t be doing too much work on it myself but still find them really helpful for what to do get a specialist to do or not!

    Thanks for the great advice. I have a 2002 Boxster and have always cleaned/polished the vinyl window by hand. Never thought of using an orbital. The inside does get fogged up I believe due to heat when it is stowed and clearly shows some round marks etc. Cleaning it with the top in place requires you to be a contortionist and its hard to keep from being sloppy. Opening the top a bit makes it easier but much less effective and likely slopier. Any further advice regarding possible tools to use on the inside to make the job easier would be greatly appreciated!

    Could you make a video on how to restore the small cracks and holes that develop in the folds of the plastic when storing the convertible top? It's possible that water may enter through there, but I don't see a way to fix it (aside from replacing the convertible top).

    • @HelpMeDIY
      @HelpMeDIY  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      +@sivispacemparabellum8592 I don’t know of a way to do that 🤷‍♂️

    • @sivispacemparabellum8592
      @sivispacemparabellum8592 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I had thought about applying some type of glue (flexible and rubbery) and baking soda to fill in, in conjunction with some type of waterproofing. What I would still need to know is what glue to use... one that won't burn the plastic, won't dry out and cause further fractures, etc. I had thought about using glue for ping pong paddles - which is rubbery (and I understand would withstand the folding of the convertible top). It's a topic for which I can't find any videos on TH-cam, no information in forums. It probably generates traffic for you; give it some thought. Many of us want to solve this problem (which everyone experiences sooner or later), and besides the cost of replacing the top, I'm not confident that it will be perfect in terms of opening, closing, and sealing@@HelpMeDIY

      @@sivispacemparabellum8592 I agree it would be a great solution (and video)! Not having a Boxster anymore makes it pretty hard to come up with something unfortunately. Re: Ceramic Coating: No, don't ceramic coat a flexible surface. Ceramic is rigid. It won't survive on a surface that is bending almost 180 degrees in some spots. You could try graphene spray coatings that have a 3-6 month life, but don't use ones with SiO2 in them.

      +Carlos Alberto not sure… the one I used recently probably wouldn’t. Last step is a sort of ceramic coating the brings the clarity, but you don’t want that on plastic that bends and folds.

    Hey Aaron, my Boxster started making a snapping sound when the convertible roof is almost closed. Thanks, love your videos
