Leaving Oatchi to protect a luminkoll will be basically essential on the later nights, I'm afraid. But if you max out his chomps and health, he'll survive basically any creature that comes near it. Besides, you can always switch to take control of him :) He's such a good, floofy boy
Additionally, the glow pikmins have the (completely non-tutorialized by the game) effect of instantly teleporting to your active leader, so even if you leave Oatchi on his own, switching to him WILL give him control over all the glow pikmins you currently have, even if the player character is on the other side of the map !
You know, something I don’t get is that the in game text says that you can destroy Smoky Progg eggs before they hatch, but there’s usually like literally 5-10 seconds of opportunity, so such a narrow time frame makes it seem impossible
I've never seen a content creator so vigilant for his fans, it's very admirable. I'm sure no one would complain if you didn't do things like a notification sound for your updates or helpful adjustments like that, but the fact you do is valued very much by all of your fans.

Aw it's a shame that scruffy didn't change his color to Shnauz's right before talking to him. If you don't know scruffy, there's secret dialogue for each character if you change your character to look exactly like them.
Made a soup today. Green onion and garlic, sauteed in a pot with olive oil. Added chicken broth and let it simmer (Low-Medium). On the side, I added small amount of soy sauce, sesame seed oil, chili oil, and mirin to a bowl, and cooked a slice of bacon halfway in the oven (425F). I chopped the bacon into small bits and let it finish in the soup, before cracking an egg into the pot to poach for a few minutes. Finally, I added a pinch of salt and poured it into the prepared bowl. I've only just started adding bacon to my soup, and this playthrough will forever remind me whenever I taste it. I recommend you try it sometime, or adapt it to your own recipe!
Putting Oatchi on Lumiknoll duty makes him your last line of defense. He'll probably technically get into less battles. And here's a hint about the larvae... The holes they're coming out of are dirtmounds like you're familiar with!

thank you for adding the sound cue! like you said, others have commented that they've been mainly listening while doing other things and i'm also one of those people that's been doing that! very helpful to know when to look at the screen for important notes so i'm very grateful :]
While Pikmin are probably small enough that a fall at terminal velocity isn't lethal to them, who knows what's lurking all the way down there... I also really admire your amazing vocal range. You're still keeping every voice so unique! Some (unsolicited, perhaps) advice below! - - Kudos to your strategy on not being overeliant on gear! I certainly was... But don't neglect the potential they have, either. Especially at night, where things get frantic, or whenever a Leafling needs to be, er, "convinced" to come along. Most gear really aids in Dandori factor, including the hazard resistances. It's a lot easier to ignore a hazard than spend time clearing it out - though of course, making an efficient path may also be just as paramount. Things might feel "overpowered", but it some situations, you're going to need power in spades! - As much as it might pull at the heartstrings, don't feel bad about always leaving Oatchi behind on guard duty, or whatever else might need a helping paw! The big guy has been trained for this, after all. And the upgrades Oatchi can obtain via Russ and Training can turn him into a one puppy powerhouse, a whole squad of Pikmin of all colors wrapped into one adorable package. Eventually, he'll be capable of bowling through hordes of full-size Bulborbs like an avalanche of Purple Pikmin!
coupel of tips based on yoru nightmode playing: I find swapping between captain and oatchi and being on opposite sides of the map works best for me,a nd i pause frequently to look at the map. enemies that are actively hunting the lumiknoll flash, where as inactive enemies jsut. exist. another thing is the bulborb larva do not have to be infinite! if you go to their source, you can cut them off and keep them from surfacing. it makes it so much easier.
By the way, the bulborb larvae don’t count as creatures, but their spawn points do. I’ll leave what that is for you to discover during your nightly expeditions.
@13:41 Don't worry, Scruffy, I also said it the exact way you did when I played the game and didn't even know it was wrong until you pointed it out in the video.
Ngl, you having 99% completion again is hilarious. Also, I knew what was coming when you entered the Secluded Garden. The first dungeon that traumatized me. The dang Desiccated Skitterleaves. They scared the daylights out of me. Also, definitely don't hesitate to splurge a little bit. The equipment is very helpful. And I wouldn't underestimate chomp. It's helped me a lot. Btw, tip for an upcoming dungeon. Use the Glow Seeds. You'll know which one I'm referring to. They definitely help a lot. Btw, the chats everyone has after your day/night is over are hilarious. Even the ones that are mini tutorials are entertaining.
Hey Scruffy, for the bulborb larva it didn't count as defeating them at night because you have to dig up their nests to stop them. That's why they kept coming all night.
Only just started this video, I feel like you used it before too, but I love the "edit notification" sound being one of the Pikmin ones, but in a kind of smooth style, the sound feels very Scruffy to me.
If it's not too much to ask, you should definitely read through the voyage log and rescue journal at some point, maybe in a big reading episode with the piklopedia and treasure hoard? I'll admit they're mostly tutorials, but there's also a lot of interesting lore tucked away in there too. Especially in Shepherd's Family History.
A tip for those flap bridge things like at 23:42 - if you want to make sure you don't miss, you can use ZR to lock onto it so you won't be able to miss unless you leave
The little red guys in the first cave are Shearfleas (part of the sheargrub family) and the orange blob thingy is a "Foolix" (basically the new Goolix)
So for your night mission, some of the 'creatures' that you failed to defeat were the bulborb larva spawners. In some of the future missions, you may want/need to seek out the spawners and destroy them before you get overwhelmed.
Yep! It's also worth it on some of them to let Oatchi defend the lumiknoll from the little guys, since he tears through them with a few Chomp upgrades, and then you and your pikmin can go beat up the bigger ones with glowmob. Glow pikmin are so OP lmao, even fifty of them in a glowmob is enough to take down the bigger foes in one charge!
my new current favorite thing is playing pikmin 4 (im slightly ahead), loving everything about a new area then patiently waiting for scruffy to get to it so i can hear his thoughts. its so FUN
Doing a rewatch binge of these, and I have to say, I love the little chime for when there's onscreen text. Since I have them on while I'm working, I sometimes do need a little poke to see if there's something going on I'd like to read. Good show, Scruffy!
That sound notification for notes is pretty neat! Also, if you make yourself to look exactly like another castaway, they each will have unique dialogue acknowledging the fact. Some of that dialogue is pretty interesting.
I hope you read the voyage log at some point, either on camera or off camera as there are some funny entries like about collecting an onion you already have.
Unfortunately, you will have to have Oatchi protect lumikolls from this point on, as the nights get harder. You got lucky with this night, but doing what you did for other nights will cost you big time. Also, it is best to start focusing on chomp, and for upgrades, focus on Oatchi, getting him the gear that increases his health, defense, and elemental resistances. Also, Bulborb Larva respawn through burrows on night missions. Have some of the Glow Pikmin dig them to close them off.
Not necessarily. Unless we're talking about missions with two lumiknolls at once, it's possible to use Oatchi to get a headstart on clearing out enemies before they start beelining for the lumiknoll (or nearest activated tricknoll) while the player character stays closer to base to grow glowies, especially after dash gets maxed out.
Fun as always! You can be a little more lenient on entering caves at the end of the day - you can enter caves right up until the final 10 second countdown, if you care about ultra maxium dandori which is too intense for me!
idk why but a lotta times throughout da episode, i kinda expected scruffy to just go "ZOINKS!" at something agahvsjsbdks anyways hai i love your playthrough it's a delight
Am I imagining it, or do different types of pikmin have different "carrying treasure chants"? The red pikmin carrying treasure around 17:30 sounded different than what I've heard before! Or perhaps it's dependent on different types/weights of treasures? I do remember that adding twice the pikmin to a treasure in transit will double the tempo :)
55:00 this was my first cave in the area, id only played pikmin 1 before so everything moving and falling out of the sky genuinley scared me so much (not as bad as the creeping crysthantumum when i thought i was finally safe again)
I would definitely recommend exploring out a bit more during night expeditions, Oatchi can generally defend the lumiknoll fine as long as you're being proactive about threats as you explore, plus bulborb larvae keep coming until you find their source
1:40:35 The reason why it says "Creatures Defeated: 2/6" is because the bulborb larvae come from holes in the ground, and if you dig up the holes they'll stop spawning. I don't know if that mechanic appears again, but know that there will be reasons to go out on the hunt instead of hanging back to protect the Luminkoll.
Man I love your videos and I want to say this the nicest way I can: 700 raw materials is insane, buy some upgrades because besides that and constructions you won't be needing them
I love having an "editor's note" sound. Stephenplays does the same thing, and it's nice when I'm not always looking directly at the screen.

thank you for adding the sound cue! like you said, others have commented that they've been mainly listening while doing other things and i'm also one of those people that's been doing that! very helpful to know when to look at the screen for important notes so i'm very grateful :]
One cave single handedly giving scruffy trust issues.
This game is awesome 🤣
This video was so cozy I just took a nap listening to it 10/10 amazing nap and video
While Pikmin are probably small enough that a fall at terminal velocity isn't lethal to them, who knows what's lurking all the way down there...
I also really admire your amazing vocal range. You're still keeping every voice so unique!
Some (unsolicited, perhaps) advice below! -
- Kudos to your strategy on not being overeliant on gear!
Oh my gosh you are actually the sweetest??! The notification sound for the notes and the warning for oatchi on the last video 😢❤
coupel of tips based on yoru nightmode playing:
I find swapping between captain and oatchi and being on opposite sides of the map works best for me,a nd i pause frequently to look at the map. enemies that are actively hunting the lumiknoll flash, where as inactive enemies jsut. exist.
another thing is the bulborb larva do not have to be infinite! if you go to their source, you can cut them off and keep them from surfacing. it makes it so much easier.
This game just gets better and better
There’s a secret dandori challenge in this game that’s actually nightmare fuel.
By the way, the bulborb larvae don’t count as creatures, but their spawn points do. I’ll leave what that is for you to discover during your nightly expeditions.
woa I wasn't expecting the scruffy movie to drop today
I really need that one giant video where you just read every treasures description
and examine them for hidden messages / details, like the stopwatch
yes. @@noahsabadish3812
@13:41 Don't worry, Scruffy, I also said it the exact way you did when I played the game and didn't even know it was wrong until you pointed it out in the video.
I look forward to this series constantly, its so relaxing
Serene Shores and “that boss” that was traumatizing until you got to a certain point to be able to take it down.
I love these, they always make my mornings better!
Your Dandori goes well Scruffy!
1:40:42 Nope. The 'Holes' that the larvae come out of count as 1 creature. If you dig up all the holes then the night ends.
these episodes are truly "inter-minable"
Hindsight 20/20 and all that, but for reinforced walls you can lay the mine first, then throw a bomb rock to get 2 back to back explosions
The little red guys in the first cave are Shearfleas (part of the sheargrub family) and the orange blob thingy is a "Foolix" (basically the new Goolix)
EVERYONE WAKE UP SCRUFFY HAS RETURNED!!! ☺️🎉
1 hour and 40 minutes??? We eating good today.
Edit: also serene shores next episode (:
Agreed Mr. Breadbug
This comment was in an older episode! And I don’t like you doing this but ok!
@@Luigi_bros4321oh sorry.
@@justarandomperson5557no continue, for I am the evil side on your shoulder
can't wait for The Horrors
It's so lovely seeing you upload on my birthday, it's like a little present! So thank you! 😄
I love these longer videos! Was definitely worth the little wait :-)
my new current favorite thing is playing pikmin 4 (im slightly ahead), loving everything about a new area then patiently waiting for scruffy to get to it so i can hear his thoughts. its so FUN
I love all your voices for the castaways, they're awesome
"Who do I have more of?" - In this situation, I like to create 5 glow pikmin from seeds and throw _them_ into the candypop.
Fun as always! You can be a little more lenient on entering caves at the end of the day - you can enter caves right up until the final 10 second countdown, if you care about ultra maxium dandori which is too intense for me!
the 4 missed creatures from the night mission were mounds where the larve crawl out off
33:51 "its not that i'm letting my guard down but like-" **burrowing snagret appears while he let his guard down**
Wake up, babe, new scruffy vid just dropped!!
The charging horn making Shepard and Colin move against their own will implies the pikmin don't chanege of their own volition either.
idk why but a lotta times throughout da episode, i kinda expected scruffy to just go "ZOINKS!" at something agahvsjsbdks
anyways hai i love your playthrough it's a delight
Am I imagining it, or do different types of pikmin have different "carrying treasure chants"? The red pikmin carrying treasure around 17:30 sounded different than what I've heard before! Or perhaps it's dependent on different types/weights of treasures? I do remember that adding twice the pikmin to a treasure in transit will double the tempo :)
Scruffy ! The glow pikmins are not in the pikmin family ! So what are they...
55:00 this was my first cave in the area, id only played pikmin 1 before so everything moving and falling out of the sky genuinley scared me so much (not as bad as the creeping crysthantumum when i thought i was finally safe again)
So happy the series is back! Love seeing you experience the game
Man I love your videos and I want to say this the nicest way I can: 700 raw materials is insane, buy some upgrades because besides that and constructions you won't be needing them
since you’re basically done with Blossoming Arcadia, you will LOVE the next area, Serene Shores
especially the caves
Air Armors are unlocked when you buy the Tuff Stuff upgrade of the same tier and the Air Armor of the previous tier
