It'll get much smoother with time, mine now has lost all stiffness. Seemed really tight at first, now it almost feels too loose 😅
Love my CRKs! My first expensive knife was a PJ small sebenza, and I still carry it often. I was lucky enough to snag a Tanto Zaan late last year on a random drop. Absolute beauty and beast of a knife!
I knew you would be back. You have to get a Zaan.
I tried both large Sebenzas, with and without inlays. It's weird, but the inlays made the handle too thiccc for me. Kept the version w/o inlays, it's purr-fect 🥰
I didn't like the Sebenza when I first got one a few years back. After some use I now carry one quite a bit. I do however find myself carrying an Inkosi more often than not. Glad to see a CRK back in your pocket!
You can polish the washers on a strop and make it insanely smooth in 5 minutes.
I do this on all of my washer knives and the difference is immediately noticeable. The QC drift large became drop shut after a good polishing.
That's the first thing I do with EVERY washer knife I buy
Funny you made this video, if you recall I left a comment on your Rosie video that I just got my first Rosie.
After 48 hours, I sold it. As amazing as the action was, and the innovation on the detent, I just prefer the action on my Small Sebenza.
My Sebenza has aftermarket studs, I'm able to thumb flick and reverse flick comfortably. I dislike the CRK studs.
Polishing the washers accelerates the break in process.
That’s a good idea, replace the studs. Where’d you get yours?
I hope they do get smother. I’ve had mine since Christmas and still feel’s stiff.
LOL No, they don't ALL do that. Mine doesn't, and I'm pressing as hard as I can. So unless you've handled EVERY 31 ... it's kind of silly to claim that they all have up/down play.
This is true. There are a ton of Sebenza 31 owners out there (including me) who have cranked as hard as they can without any rock. You can’t convince Doody otherwise though!😂
It says on the CRK website that it’s normal for Sebenza 31s to have movement
This is a response from Chris Reeve in the original Blade Forums thread where people were worried about the new 31 having movement:
The “lock rock” you are experiencing on your 31s is normal. With the ceramic ball added to the lock arm, the blade will rock over the ceramic ball slightly. There was a lot of talk about this feature during the design process and it differs from the Inkosi model because the shape of the lock arm is slightly different and allows for the contact point between the blade and the ceramic ball to be “more fluid”.
@@doodysdaggers yep that’s the corporate statement. Then in the FB Group where Tim is very active there are multiple discussions where he acknowledges that the movement varies based on the knife with many having none at all. Not a big deal. Wasn’t trying to argue with you my man. Yours has some flex and it’s a normal occurrence so that’s all that matters. Mine doesn’t, and I’m happy with that. 👊🏼
I guess it’s an excuse. Why should the lockrock be normal. I think it shouldn’t have any. I just ordered a 31 small and i am kinda nervous. If mine has it I definitely will send it back since i see ppl saying not all have it. I wonder if it could cause the issue when i crank down on it so i will try it gently. 😬
So hyped for it to arrive
Just saw your video with Sebenza 31 and now you coming back to Chris R. Great.
I wanna get my hands on an umnumzaan. My favorite looks wise outta the CRK. Thanks for sharing Dood
Yeah it’s pretty badass, the umnumzaan is a true super heavy duty knife
honestly feel like that blade rock is kind of a plus the ceramic ball wont wear enough steal with a few prying tasks that were light to affect the knife and that flex on the blade will help deviate pressure off of the lockbar itself. still wouldnt use it to stab hard objects and it consernes me as well but they have proven to last lifetimes so i carry a second cross bar lock knife for my stabbing prying and hard use and my small sabenza for my slicing and precision tasks to make sure i always have a sharp knife when i need it.
The question now would be. Large Sebenza or Zaan and why? Id need help deciding.😅😅
I’d go Zaan. It’s super heavy duty and badass
I just “joined” on Monday. So nice! Removed the lanyard.
Congrats man! 🤘
Doobenza is back
Dood, that’s THE knife right there! It’s all that/perfect size……
The Sabenza reminds me of a super high end Bugout! You don’t love it right away but great quality high end working knife the more you use it the more you fall in love with it!
Good Morning!!!!!
I hate blue 😅
Borrow a small Inkosi before you buy one. It's a bit smaller than the 31. I have smaller hands and the small Inkosi took some getting used to. With that being said, I absolutely do not regret getting the small Inkosi. It's my house knife and so it probably gets the most use because I tend to be a homebody. 😂
My small Inkosi has the Insingo blade which I think is really good as a utility knife.
Oh good to know. I just assumed it was small Benza size
It's barely a 4 finger knife and I wear medium work gloves. Another thing that makes it a little weird are the finger grooves of the Inkosi.
My first CRK is my small 31, and it perfect for my hand. It feels more comfortable with virtually no hot spots, whereas the large 31 is a little less comfortable. I think it comes down to how the pocket clip fits into my hand. I still like the large and I'll keep it, but for EDC the small may be the closest to my "perfect" EDC.
That's awesome you're liking the the Small 31! It's crazy how insanely overbuilt that little guy is, or any CRK for that matter.
I did recently get 2 large Inkosi's. One is the plain-jane with a Tanto and the other is the drop point with Micarta. The Micarta really seems to make a noticeable difference in comfort. I think the large Inkosi with the micarta is becoming my favorite knife. As far as comfor goes I'd put it right there with the Spyderco Shaman. The Inkosi with Micarta just melts into my hands.
just got my 4rth Sebenza, the Prometheus design version and even my 2021 s35vn model doesn't have that "blade rock" or at least I can't feel any movement in any direction personally, and it will drop shut, but I have seen them talk about a flex in the lock bar that can cause movement? As others mentioned, the Zaan is king! and Inkosi has a great fit in the hand! Love the content brother! glad to see a Reeves in your hand!
None of the inlay versions look good to me...i have always loved how that blade shape looks with the hump over the thumb stud....
Just get a Land 812 and be done with it 😂
Haha right
I wish they would bring back the 21,i can't stand the new lock interface or the new pocketclip.
The only upgrade it needed was a overtravel stop.
Those fidgety knives are cool but they’re also just a fad that will die out. Sebenza lives forever
I'd welcome you back, but I am not a member of the club, so I will just sit here and wish you a congratulations!
I've never handled a sebenza, but i love my large inkosi. Use it every chance i get, the wear it gets from use makes it better looking and adds character imo
yeah, my mini seb has a ton of movement for sure. luckily my large insingo blade actually is pretty rock solid. only gets a hint of movement if im pushing insanely hard. the sand blast on these look awesome, hope you enjoy it!
Nice pick up. I’m a big fan of pj Sebenzas and they get better over time and wear.
Small 31 is just perfect!
The micarta inlay is what you need.
Lynch North West sells some nice deep carry clips. The sand blast finish is a pretty spot on match.
the pj's sexy though. you came back with a good choice.
Get a 21 and the rock is non existent! The best knife ever made
Purrfect size is a 1/2” longer man
I love the look 👀 and been curious for a bit ….😅
These are not my cup O tea. Good video. Thanks
I think you would really like the small inkosi insingo
Have to buy a zaan and own a large inkosi.
Agree that it would be nice for crk to make a medium size sebenza and inkosi, like a 7.5" oal would be perfect. And if they did them on bearings it would be even better.
One of the best things about Chris Reeve folders is that hey don’t have bearings.
I need to get back in the Benza club. I still have two zans and an inkosi, love em! It’s the single thumbstud that I didn’t love about this one.
Yea me either, might replace them
Need to get me a sebenza
The small inkosi is even smaller than the small. I like it, but for me, the first scallop cutout is a little small for a finger, and a little sharp as well.
Oh damn alright
@@doodysdaggers just made a video for you brother!
I would love a medium Sebenza.
Such a beautiful knife 🤌
Polish the washers to smooth it out
Just received my Sebenza 31 Large. And feel the same about the size. Trying to sell it to get the small!
Yeah it’s really big! And the small is really small
@@doodysdaggers damn 🤨
Wow had never noticed the insanely narrow space between the tang and stop pin. Impressive. It’s like that on my large Inkosi too
I know it’s nuts!! Wish I could fit calipers in there to measure it
I just checked a bunch of other knives and none of them have that level of tolerance. No room for error there haha
Atta boy!!!!
Awesome. That’s interesting that the S45 seems to hold a better edge than the magnacut. I have the small but want to get a large also. I saw a video that said the rock goes away after a while once it wears in. Thanks for the video.
Interesting, I guess we’ll see a year from now!
The good ole 31 rock. The inkosi seems to have really almost fixed that completely. I can say without a faint that his s45 is heat treated to what they claim. Mine has kept a stupid sharp edge for a good long while now and get a lot of use.
I know you've tested both seb and zaan but which one you think it's better?
The zaan is the super heavy duty one, Benza is great too. I like em both
