a stephen king readathon would be so fun!
lets start with THINNER aka his best book ever
Yes it would! I recently purchased “You Like It Darker”
I will watch any type of video you post! Your personality and humor will make me want to read any book you rave about. I've picked up so many books because of you that I likely would NEVER have done myself. Keep doing you, Ian!
"Ian Gubeli's reading associates" needs to be on a tshirt. At the very least a sticker on RedBubble!
I want to see the library with the Harry Potter and Stephen king sets on it now😍
They all look so good. I wouldn't even know where to start.
Hey Ian. If you were interested, the short story collection Night Shift by Stephen King has some great stories in it. Some of which were made into movies. The one titled Jerusalem's Lot is a prequel to Salem's Lot. The one titled Night Surf is the origin for The Stand. My favorite one is The Boogyman from this collection. Happy reading!
I love it. On Writing is a gem of a book, truly. It was 5 stars for me. I just recently bought the Hodder editions, and I am obsessed with them. I'm 100% on board for a Stephen King readathon, but really, I'm just here for the ride. Anything posted will be watched and thoroughly enjoyed.
I heard For Whom the Bell Tolls is Hemingway's best novel, behind The Old Man and the Sea. Old man and the Sea is what got him a pulitzer, so definitely high praise.
Stephen King's short story collections are my favorite, Skeleton Crew being one of those. I also loved Four Past Midnight, and Night Shift.
Ive read King's hardcase crime books. Joyland was my favorite.
Godfather is very pulpy. Great read.
Joyland has one of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listened to!!
@@carleelynn2017I've only listened to one audio book. Cause it was the only way I'd ever get through it - Blood Meridian. Did it in a very long car ride.
Old Man and the Sea is where I always recommend people start with Hemingway. Not only is it a great book, it's only about 120 pages. I've been reading a lot of King myself. I've been buying that same Hoder series...love the looks of the spines. I just finished Carrie about two weeks ago myself, Salem's Lot is next. I love pretty much all of Stephen King's books, but his short stories are favorites of mine. Many of his best movies came from his short stories. Apt Pupil and Shawshank both come to mind.
Yessssss Liveship Traders is so amazing. I read it 2 years ago and still can't stop thinking about it! My absolute favorite fantasy Trilogy. Great haul, man! Can't wait for Kingtober 😊
Skeleton crew is my favourite short story collection
Oh my gosh, that Godfather book looks amazing. That is absolutely beautiful. These all look so fun. I can’t wait to hear what you think about the Robin hobb books.
I am currently reading skeleton crew following along with you. This is so fun. I love it.
lol I just bought that pet semetery copy myself and Cujo. I had to have both of those copies. They are so cool looking. And I just bought that hodder set myself. 😉
I still think about some of the stories of Skeleton Crew to this day and I read it years ago. I think you'll love it (or maybe you already have if I missed a video somewhere lol binge watching to catch up; I'm sure I'll stumble on it lol). Red Dawn update: Hooked from the prologue so lol looks like I'm fully down that rabbit hole! I've found so many good books watching you and Ashlynn!
Nice! My favorite Hemingway is Farewell to Arms. It’s soo good. The one you got is also excellent. Old man and the sea is also soo good!
YESSS a stephen king readathon!!! i absolutely love king and i have to recommend Fairytale to you!! i just finished it in July, definitely a different king book but YES YES YES
This was such a fun haul! I love that Ashlynn gifts you so many books, and that it's something you guys bond over! There are wayyyyy worse things to spend money on. :)
I've been on a huge Stephen King kick recently as well, because spooky season! Just finished 11/22/63 (best book ever, imo) and started Sleeping Beauties. The Shining and Doctor Sleep are two that I really want to read this season as well!
A rereading your fav books of all time vlog would be so fun! I love rereading my favs and it would be interesting to see someone else gush over their favorites! Great haul! Lots of fun reads
Ernest hemingway is such a good author that you can basically start with any of his books
I wanted to read Lonesome Dove so bad, since someone recommended it because I love Red Dead 2!
Would love to see a Stephen King readathon, but with Christine. That's one of my all time favorite book and movie, and I always say my truck is my Christine. If you know, you know (since there's parts of the book/movie non-car people wouldn't understand).
I'm excited to see future videos!
When he pulled out Lonesome Dove, that is what I thought. I am playing Red Dead now, and I thought, huh, maybe I should read that series while I finish up Red Dead, lol.
It's such a good game. I think it's tied for my all time favorite story game with the Witcher 3.
@@gigglingchicken8444 It's definitely one of my tops!
@@gigglingchicken8444same RDR 2 and Witcher 3 are the top of the top for me too and replaying Witcher 3 currently. Also reading the Border trilogy by cormac mccarthy, they’re really good too if looking for some westerns for that RDR fix
I read Moby Dick this past spring and honestly, the only way I could get through it was because my teacher made audiobook files of the entire book read by him and he would stop and explain the parts we had just read. Don't be afraid to skim some chapters, there are a lot of chapters that contain almost nothing of importance, and yet the meaning at the end of the novel is just profound. It takes a lot of energy but it's worth it!
Ahh The Liveship Traders! I read them earlier this year and they are fantastic.
This is a great book haul that influenced me to place a B&N order as well as a Blackwell’s order. I love watching you and your wife’s content.
My favorite short story of King is The Mist. Skeleton Crew, brings back great memories.
I've not read Hobbs. I do not want my heart broken.
Enjoy your reading, or why do it. 📚 ❤
I’ve just started watching recently and have been loving your videos! I found you first and have also started watching your wife ☺️ I’m used to reading books similar to the ones she reads but have been branching out and have loved some of the books I’ve read! Keep being awesome! ☺️
Hi Ian! Long time watcher of you and your wife. Lonesome Dove is my favorite book of all time and I watch the mini series every year. I'm not typically a western fan but it's a beautiful journey of epic proportion. Augustus for life. 🤠 Those Harry Potter books are stunning. 😍 And I just got Beach Song as well! My friend recommended it to me when we were at the used bookstore a few weeks ago!!!
Everyone! Ian has posted 🫡
I LOVE “On Writing!” Not just for the advice but the memoir portion of it is so good, it feels like you’re sitting in his living room just listening to him. I have three copies of it! Those Hodder editions are so beautiful. Nice haul 🙌🏽
Whenever I see “For Whom The Bell Tolls” it reminds me of my favorite stanza in any poem ever, which is
“Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.”
Good CLASSIC BOOK SELECTIONS,collectors editions also!
Wow I love your Harry Potter covers! I always wanted the OG covers but I went with the easy available ones 😂
I read The Shining during Christmas and it was such a good vibe.
Omg yes! Shutter Island!!!
So many books -- so little time! Thanks for sharing!
On Writing is a really easy read. It bridges on Memoir but it is so good!!
For Hemingway, I would def recommend starting with 'The Sun Also Rises' instead. It's way shorter, packs a real punch, and showcases his the biggest strengths of his writing that really trickle over from his short stories, which are widely regarded as his true masterpieces.
I think I've read everything that Dennis Lehane has written. I absolutely love the style of writing he puts on paper and of course, I love all things New England. He's a great choice!
I loved Later, The Shining and Doctor Sleep! All three are soooo good!!
Stephen King vlog, but also vlog for each Robin Hobb series would be amazing! Your reactions and such! Just started my Realm of Elderlings journey as well 😍
They filmed Salems Lot down the road from my house here in Australia. Let me tell you, it was so eerie looking up on the horizon and seeing that house up on the hill!! Great haul Ian ❤
Cant wait to watch it on Max in October. First King book I read in 8th grade back in early 80's
Wooooooooo! Love it! Love it! Love it!
You will LOVE the Liveship books! I can't wait to hear what you think about them.
I have also recently purchased Moby Dick. It just called to me for some reason. I was seeing references to it everywhere, and kept popping up in my dreams. Last week, I was driving to work and contemplating whether or not to give it a shot. I'm stopped at a traffic light, and car ahead of me had a vanity plate that read "Queequeg". The universe wants me to read this book! I'm saving for January, but will be interested on your take.
Skeleton Crew is a gem! Liveship traders are brilliant!
Harry Potter forever haha 😂 Awesome book haul!
I just read The Prince of Tides and was also blown away. Clicked on so many levels for me. Picked up The Great Santini for my next read for him. And +1 for Liveship Traders vlog. That series deserves it. It's incredible.
Godfather movie is super awesome… book is even better!!! 6 star
For whom the bells tolls… Great place to start. Hemingway’s best novel in my opinion.
I’ve also recently been turned on to Vonnegut. I started with Slaughterhouse 5 and enjoyed it. Just finished Cats Cradle, also good. He was decades ahead of his time in his writing style and subject matter.
I enjoyed the video and your content, keep up the good work!!! 😊
I’m so ready for Stephen King videos!! I would love to see your reaction to his short story “The Jaunt” in The Skeleton Crew! Don’t read anything about it, just go in blind. Happy reading!
We love a book haul! I just had my own haul ahha. I bought 5 books, found 2 thrifted and 2 in a free little library 😂
I read Salem's Lot 20 years ago, and there is a scene in that book that I can still see so vividly in my imagination that it gives me chills. I can't wait for you to read that and tell us your thoughts!
Awesome book haul!
Ohhhh so glad you're starting with Vonnegut, I read Cat's Cradle in high school and you're making me want to read Slaughterhouse Five. I also considered buying Hemingway recently and I think For Whom the Bell Tolls is a good place to start. I have Prince of Tides by Conroy and I've heard great things. I'm starting Assassin's Apprentice in either September or October because you and a few other BookTubers really got me interested. I bought Lonesome Dove literally because of you and I really, really want to read it this year. On Writing was one of the best books I read this year - I think you'll also love it! Congrats on the haul - I hope you love them all!
I loved Moby Dick it was one of my favourite reads of 2023.
I'm a third of the way through Ship of Destiny, enjoying it so much. I'd be keen on viewing whatever you wanted to share about reading these. 💜
That Harry Potter set is beautiful 👏
I’m pumped you dropped a video! Great book haul and I hope you had a great birthday! Lots of books for me to put on my TBR. Also, love the new Harry Potter set.
Larry McMurtry does not miss. Since you've read Lonesome Dove and Streets of Laredo, I highly recommend watching the movies. They are excellent. Dead Man's Walk is great too. Also, don't sleep on Stephen King's "On Writing". In my opinion, every writer should read it. Thanks for another great video!
UGH so many of these are in my TBR… Liveship Trilogy, Lonesome Dove, Moby Dick… please let us when you start and we can all do a read along!!
On Writing will surprise you! It was absolutely fascinating for a memoir (obvi King can make anything interesting) and a breath of fresh air for anyone who is a creative writer.
I love the cover of Godfather!!!!
Hi Ian, we just got Goodread friends last week! Looking forward to your Stephen King videos! Ive recently read Salems Lot and there were 2 bats flying around in my bedroom so it was extra scary. But I loved it.
I met Pat Conroy's wife, Cassandra King, a few years ago at a book signing. She was so nice and had amazing stories to tell about her and Pat's life together. I love her book Same Sweet Girls.
Nice book haul, and happy belated birthday, Ian! 🥳 I've got King's "The Shining" audiobook and ebook checked out from the library and plan on immersion reading it over the next two weeks and documenting my responses to each chapter. King's "Doctor Sleep" and "Fairy Tale" are on my October TBR.
Awesome video‼️ I am curious about Kurt Vonnegut. I am definitely going to add For Whom the Bell Tolls and Moby Dick to my tbr.
Omg the anxiety of recommending the wrong book to someone 👀 I feel for you!!! Also that King set is STUNNING
So excited for a Steven king month! You make them all sound amazing.I’ve never read any of his books. Not YET anyways
this format really suits me
For King, check out Under the Dome. Such a great book.
When reading Duma Key, take your time, it's good but you don't want to fly through it, IMO
I love HP &hbp also that’s my all time fav!
I’m doing a reread of The Shining this winter. Need the snow around me to feel more isolated.
Really looking forward to your Stephen King plans in October. Mr King is becoming one of my Favourite Authors. Pet Semetary was actually my first read and I was blown away, I recently started 112263, and I admit I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as not a huge fan of time travel but I'm three chapters in and loving it! Brilliant book haul, you deserve it and I bet your home library is looking amazing x
stephen king month yes! i have skeleton crew here too and will read it soon!
Places to get cheap books in Utah County:
2nd & Charles in Orem
Savers in Orem
Pioneer Book on Center St. in Provo
Eborne Books & Artifacts of Ancient History both in the Provo Towne Centre Mall
Hideaway Books in American Fork
DIs absolutely everywhere lol
Love the channel. I follow both you and the Mrs., I happen to live in the same general vicinity, and I also have a book habit that I couldn't afford if it weren't for the bookstores above. Used books are awesome! Happy reading!
Btw, of the three whole Hemingway books I've read so far, For Whom the Bell Tolls is my favorite.
I love 2nd & Charles that we have in AL.
"I won't be going book shopping for a very long time." HA! famous last words 😄
I started with "For Whom the Bell Tolls," loved it. Hated everything else I ever read by Hemingway. 😂
Happy belated birthday!🎉📚🎉 Great book haul.
Great video and haul, so jealous I want all of them 🤣
I just found Shutter Island at the thrift store! I love the movie, excited to read it. I have Larry McMurtry’s Terms of Endearment on my tbr shelf, LOVED Lonesome Dove. Doctor Sleep is going to be the grand finale for my haloweenie reads 🙂 I pulled out a couple spooky/thriller books to start when October hits!
I looooooved doctor sleep! Enjoy
Joyland is one of my favorite King books! Also, I have also always wanted to read Moby Dick and I can't think of a better person to read it with! I reread The Shining this weekend 😂
I cannont wait for october! I love hesring your thoughts on stephen king books! And sk is really good at writing short stories
This is amazing!! I’m excited to see you read more Stephen King and also Moby Dick!!!
When you guys decide to drive up to PDX so you can go to Powell’s together, you must go to Timberline Lodge! This is the location of film version of The Shining. It is now a historical landmark, so if something breaks they try to repair it to match what is already there. Believe it or not, I have never been inside. I have been to Timberline on a driver over to Bend Oregon, we just did not go in.
I have the same Harry Potter set, I love it 👌🏼
Omg! I just got pet cemetery and have never read it before but loved the new cover so had to get it! Also I am thinking about reading lots of Stephen king also in oct! 🙃🙃 happy reading!!!
Wow!! I don’t know where to start ? Larry McMurtry a must. Pat Conroy, is one of my literary fiction writers as well. Moby Dick, I read that when I was in 7th grade, on my own, not part of a class, and loved it. And well, you already know where I stand with Mr. Stephen “Genius “ King. His crime noir novels, are incredible.
Wow so many! I’ve been trying to read more lately but it’s hard to find time(especially as a college student). Still trying to get through the Silmarillion and LOTR. 😂
I had to read Slaughterhouse Five in college, many years ago. There is a quote from the book that still stays with me today but I don't want to spoil it for you. I was gifted a relative's collection of Stephen King books (40+ books). I plan to showcase them on my channel in October in order to get feedback on people's favorites. I have only read five of his books so I have a ways to go. I have read his "On Writing" years ago and enjoyed. I have a copy of it.
Nice haul! Excited to hear what you think of the liveship trader trilogy
Currently reading Salem's Lot! I'd love to do a reread of The Shining this winter, i think.
I've been making my way through a song of ice and fire for the past while thanks to you! Currently on storm of swords and I am Obsessed. I've never seen the show either so I'm aware I'm late to the game but I've just had no interest until I heard you talking about it - THANK YOU!!!
Beach Music is my favorite Pat Conroy book
Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger. Must read. Coming of age, mystery, historical fiction. I’ve heard Mike from Mike’s Book Reviews just say that if you love Stephen King coming of age, you’ll love this. I just read it, loved it, dying to check out some Stephen King now for comparison. Nathan Drum is the man.
Nice! I read Cujo when I was 13 and it messed me up so bad, lol.
Salems Lot comes out on HBO max early October so might be good to read that one first if you intend on watching that
I love the original mini series of Salem’s Lot!
I loved On Writing! I think you'll really enjoy it! I'd love to see a Stephen King/spooky reads video in October! 💀👻👽🎃🕯🪦⚰️
Dude, read Running Man, its my favorite King novel I reread it every year! Also glad to see the beard coming back!
I'm about to turn 30 and a coworker got me to start reading I've never read a book in my life till a couple months ago started with the Hobbit then a Louis L'Amour book and now Billy Summers and man I'm hooked. Found your channel and it seems we have the same taste in books my plan is to finish Billy Summers then read Misery. I told my parents and to this day still believe "that a book cant scare someone" but I will go for reading Pet Cemetery after Misery and see if it scares me. I've been watching some of your older vids and am writing down books you mention and will give those a try. Any advice for someone starting to read?
Speaking of classics just in time for Halloween, I was able to find Frankenstein for dirt cheap, picked up a lot of thrillers and sci fi including wool and The road thanks to your recommendations!
I will skip October.....like your non-King stuff though!
Stephen King in October was what I planned to do as well. Given I still have too many books on my TBR list for this year, I am naming 2025 as the Year of the King! My goal is 25 of his books next year, with The Dark Tower series and accompanying novels my main focus. Can't wait to see what you have planned!
I’ve been going back and forth about what HP set I want to get for so long. Think I’ve settled on the OG hardcovers bc I’m not a huge fan of the spine on the set you have. However those covers are fantastic
