Peter thank you for all the fantastic videos! I've started a small green carpet juniper bonsai after watching your tutorial and it already looks great. I love the root over rock maple you've shown, could you do a video talking about how to start a root over rock bonsai or exposed root bonsai? I would be worried about harming the plant with too much of the roots exposed. Thank you for all you're quality content!

Love your videos. I’ve learned a lot. I plan to collect plants growing in my yard in February and develop some bonsais. You made a statement I am confused about. You said root bound plants can’t get enough air to breath, but trees don’t breath air.

As someone who gets a lot of knots in her hair, watching the root trimming is strangely satisfying. Does pruning roots stimulate growth of roots or growth of branches/leaves?

If I could make a request, would you make a video on the processes of creating a bonsai from cutting(depicting what to do in different stages of the tree's growth)?
Not a step by step guide, as every tree will be a different case, but just a general guide on what we may want to focus on most during certain stages of growth.

Peter, thanks for all these valuable information.
You say that deciduous trees should never be repotted once their leaves came out, or you have to cut all the leaves. Does this still hold if the tree can be put in a very humid unheated green house? Or is it still better to cut all the leaves even if it can go in a green house?

Hi. I enjoy watching your videos. Very informative. Doesn't the sphagnum moss you put in the pot retain too much moisture and lead to root rot? Also, I remember watching one of your videos where you showed a tree that you repotted in just sphagnum moss because it was sick and you said that that would help it recover. Unfortunately I don't remember which video it was and I would like to watch it again. Can you tell me which one it was? Thanks very much and keep up the great videos!

    • @Olcia27

Try to find the whole strand sphagnum because you could easily rot your forest. I grow orchids and pure sphagnum is used by a lot of growers as a medium to "rehabilitate" struggling or root-less plants. The "magic" works because full strand sphagnum stores but also evenly distributes moisture. It needs to be light and fluffy because otherwise it works like a never drying sponge and fast plant killer. Maybe try to look into New Zealand moss (in general they're a big supplier) or buy it online. They sell it as a compacted and pressed bricks that you rehydrate yourself. You dont need much because it grows 10x in volume.

    • @xxoTUBBSoxx
      @xxoTUBBSoxx 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@peterchan3100 whether this relates to other species, but I'm wanting to work on my first which is a Chinese Elm.
      It's from a Bonsai nersury.
So trunk has some thickness to it, but thin branches. Other branches shooting off from the main ones.
Was wondering if you'd be able to cover pruning technique to thicken branches.
Also a guide on what to remove from main branches, so growth will focus on main branches rather than wasted energy on shouts from junctions.
Root pruning and tap root cutting would be helpful for that particular tree as well.
I'm not to sure if you've covered those things in previous videos, I was unable to find.
Even trunk thickening and nubari talk would be good too.
Thanks for your time Peter. I appreciate it as an up and coming enthusiast.
Your videos are what got me interested in the first place.

A good nursery technique but for professional refining needs more detailed work. Understandable from a UK nursery where production and time is titred down to the essence but Japanese nurseries are much more fastidious.
