He asked multiple times and multiple ways if she fired Shia. She not once could simply say, "Yes". I get the sense he left before she had the stance of "he's fired." Whatever it is though, why does it matter? Okay, someone quit your movie, say that and move on to your movie. Why have arguments about it?

Florence has stated many times that she was NEVER scared of Shia LaBeouf. It was a case of Florence not wanting to rehearse the amount of time that Shia felt he needed to do the role properly. There was no problem with Shia's on-set behavior - That was all cooked up by Olivia Wilde 👌

I don't know what it is called in English but in Spanish' there is something called 'despido indirecto' when the employee feels compelled to quit because of worsened work conditions (perceived or real). The employer then says that the employee quit but the employee says that they were (indirectly) fired. The claims, in this case, are the opposite but it is about semantics too.

i was on that same predicament in my last job. manager went out of his way to make work more stressfull that it it was and i quite. im sure he would say feel he got rid of me (rightfully so) and i say i quitted, so we both have control of the narrative. but with this story, its different. she, her self said ''he did not want to do the movie like i wanted it''. so unless she changed in the manner of how ''she wanted it '' with the replacement cast, he have the full narrative. i said this because i watched Shia interview a few days ago (nothing to do with this story), and he said Hollywood was turning him soulless. so putting both those stories together, it sounds like he was asked to do something he was not comfortable with and he decided to quite.

    • @Jay-ate-a-bug

I think in the case of LaBeouf there was pride at stake. The director fired him and stuck to her guns that he was fired because she needed to assert her authority in front of the rest of the cast, and Shia was not happy about being fired preferring instead to say he "Quit." It makes sense from both angles but Shia could be the bigger man rather than a whiny bitch about it.

Not sure if you know exactly how talkshow interviews work Michelle. There are certain questions a host is allowed to ask and not allowed to ask which are determined before the interview. Stephen Colbert did his job by asking the questions he was allowed to ask her and thus avoided catching any hell from her entourage. Also, it was not on him to call her out on any baloney she has said because doing so could land him and his show in hot water with the network and higher-ups. Talkshow hosts unfortunately have to tread lightly these days when interviewing celebrities like her who are shrouded in controversy.

Well...her agent and the network must have ripped him a new one because the next time she came on his show he did a complete 360 and was extremely nice to her.

I remember this kicking up last year when there was a story that was everywhere about her strict "no assholes" policy. All the headlines at the time said that in relation to her firing/replacing Shia with Harry. A simple tweet from her could have fixed it but nope. It was a good look for her after the mess came out with Twigs so she let it ride. Women can be just as shady & self-serving as men. This is an "L" for her but she'll be fine. People will forget about it when she has a big box office hit or directs something else that's critically acclaimed. After that video & the texts, anything she says now is just spin. She's had time since it's all surfaced to come up with an answer for what we all were shown. Her 1st one, basically blaming it all on the internet, didn't work. This one will get picked up by the media & make the rounds but I doubt it will work either. She just should have said Shia left & that would have been the end of it.

Shia was getting annoyed that there wasn't more rehearsal time for both him and Florence.
Part of the reason for there not being enough rehearsal time was a scheduling conflict that Florence had.
Shia was not annoyed at Florence about her scheduling conflict, that happens with most actors, he was annoyed at the movies producers and at Wilde for not working around her schedule to still give them plenty of rehearsal time. They had instead just cut the rehearsal time down. Which is one of the reasons Shia and Florence hadn't even met.
So Shia complained to Wilde and said he is leaving the film if there is not enough rehearsal.
Then Wilde dropped Florence in it saying that it was all Florence's fault for not having enough rehearsal time. And begged Shia to stay on if Florence agrees to work harder.
Shia said again, if there is enough rehearsal time he would do it.
Wilde went back to Florence's team and asked if there is anyway for her to get out of what she is doing now to come and do extra rehearsals for her film.
Florence's team got back to her and said sorry, but the scheduling was agreed upon and she can't get out of what she is already working on.
Wilde went back to Shia, and again putting all the blame on Florence, said that she can not organize extra rehearsal time. The only way she could do it would be to drop Florence and hire someone else and she didn't want to do that.
Shia said fair enough, I understand, but I can't do this role with this little rehearsal so I'm out.
    That is the story.
There was never any feud between Florence and Shia. And Wilde did not fire him.
What Wilde thought, wrongly, was when months after this all happened and we all heard about abuse claims against Shia. She thought she could get some attention for her film by simply saying she fired Shia because she was this woke Director who protects her cast. It backfired because she didn't realize Shia kept the texts and video messages and that Florence wouldn't back her bullsh1t story.

He gave her an ultimatum, she made the choice to keep Florence which means letting Shia go (firing him). To him it didn't felt like he was fired because he's the one who came up with those conditions in the first place. Therefore if she wouldn't accept his conditions he wouldn't want to be in the film.
From Olivias perspective, it looks like her making a choice that doesn't align with one of her actors wishes therefore meaning that Shia cant be a part of her movie anymore.
From Shias perspective it looks like his director was not accepting his wishes what means he didn't want to be a part of her movie.
It's not like she called him to "her office" and said you're fired and neither did he went to her office saying I quit.
I don't think anyone is wrong in the situation, it's just perspective.
And the viral video in my opinion is just her trying to keep both parties Involved in the movie and telling Shia she is trying to meet his conditions. Probably trying to keep Shia in the movie by convincing Florence to agree to more rehearsels. Once it was clear that would not be possible, she decided to recast someone for who that would not be an issue. The video does not prove what she is saying wrong in my opinion.
