An Introduction to Agnes Martin

Curator Tracey Bashkoff introduces Agnes Martin, an exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum tracing Martin’s career from her early experiments of the 1950s through her mature oeuvre and final paintings.
Visitors have an opportunity to explore the artist’s subtle and evocative striped paintings and her signature grid-pattern works. The artist's restrained style was underpinned by a personal conviction in the emotive and expressive power of art.

I'm a practicing painter, studied art all my life up thru graduate school. Yet still....when I hear academics speak about art it's like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard.
I happily walked away from the tiny world of self satisfied intellectuals long ago. Never regretted it.
If you're an artist, stay true to your self through anything and just do it.
Don't bother about what anyone says.

I wish people just don't interfere how the viewer wants to see the art work. All this is this, it says that, happiness , sadness ect. Very sad fact that art world is surrounded by people who making money talking about what art is.

Agnes Martin was extremely deliberate. She literally spent months planning out each painting.

u wouldnt have never survived this womans life. agnes martin was a brilliant artist; spent her life painting and living and breathing art. what have u dont?

This kind of "art" reflects on how shallow humanity has become. There's absolutely nothing to those works, yet it celebrities as a huge achievement. Sad times to be alive.
