Tune in for a live Q&A with Corey on Wednesday, February 7 at 3:00 p.m. EST! He’ll be answering any questions you might have on artists, materials, and techniques. th-cam.com/video/OxS8X_V6TCU/w-d-xo.html
Hi Corey I cant find anyinfo on why or the reasoning for a dyptich or triptych. Can you explain or give references to read on? What about if theres space between the panels or not and whether the surface design is continuous? Help
I am absolutely loving this series! Such a fantastic teacher, I love how he integrates information about the artist and their working practice seamlessly with the work itself. I have always had difficulty appreciating more abstract art at the level I would like to, but watching the process that goes into creating them has made me feel so much more involved in the works in a way that documentaries etc have never allowed me.
my favorite part is when he said if you find yourself getting too fussy about the little things to just stop, because that's the beauty of it. I loved that. I throw away so much art cause it's not exactly perfect and the way I want it to be, and honestly if I would just push through and keep painting the it would probably all work out in the end.
Whether or not you enjoy this kind of artwork, this series is incredible. My girlfriend and I often go to the MoMA in SF and talk about the pieces. This series has helped me greatly appreciate the process of these works as well as the physicality and philosophy behind their design. Even beyond that the instruction is amazing - it touches on theory, materials, history and philosophy without dragging on or being pretentious. As an engineer who has taken no art classes or ever felt like they should paint - these are making me want to paint - a lot!
I love this. I love how you educate without patronising. Your videos are wonderfully calming and always inspiring. Thank You so much. Kindest regards from England.
OMG! I love this series! I feel like I'm in a real art class. Thank you so much for offering an abundance of good, hard knowledge in a formal yet very understandable way. It's so interesting to learn about the artists.
I cant go to any sort of art school where I live so I'm very gratefull for these videos and this channel , it's like having the best teachers at home. Please keep doing lessons like that, its so helpfull.
Agnes Martin is one of my favorite artists. This is a wonderful series and when I saw this one come up on my suggestions I stopped everything to watch. Thank you. Also- How to paint like Paul Klee would be great. I love his work.
Love your hands on tutorials Corey they give me so many ideas for my own work and the insights you explain are very worthwhile, please keep the ball rolling with other artists we need to know more about, you are the man to explain these precious techniques, thank you.
i love how this gives a new perspective on the preparation and thought process behind modern art, please continue making more of these!! I go to SF MoMA all the time because I live down the street from it so I love knowing more about the artists featured there
Of all the demos from this channel, I think this one is the most difficult and I commend you for your bravery! Every stroke is bare and visible. I hope to try this as a meditative activity someday.
Tune in for a live Q&A with Corey on Thursday, September 14 at 3:00 p.m. EDT. He’ll be answering any questions you might have on artists, materials, and techniques. He’ll also be revealing the next episode of IN THE STUDIO to go into production!
I've really been enjoying these painting videos - as someone who knows nothing about art this great learning opportunity plus it's fun to watch him create interesting paintings!
Hey everyone, tune in this Wednesday, May 17 at 3:30 p.m. EDT for a *LIVE* Q&A with IN THE STUDIO instructor Corey D'Augustine. Corey will answer questions from previous videos, as well as from the live comments section. Watch live: th-cam.com/video/3Q2GDI673lo/w-d-xo.html
Just wondering how you would preserve a canvas like that? Would you varnish it with a couple of layers of gloss acrylic varnish then a layer of matt varnish. Would you have to use an isolation layer? etc.
+hifijohn you're only seeing him copy famous contemporary artists. of course it doesn't look like it requires a great deal of skill and talent. it doesn't mean he doesn't have talent or skill.
Dude, just so you know I've enjoyed all of the how to pain like series. It's cool and I appreciate the commentary as you demonstrate., Thank you so much. I would like to see some impressionism paint-thrus though :)
Corey is such a great teacher. Knowledgeable, able to paint, articulate, precise. Its just a shame for me that I can't get excited about Agnes Martin. Grids? Yawn.
I love your videos - so far I’ve tried painting like De Kooning. Question: why do you refer to Agnes Martin as “Agnes”? The men are “Rothko,” “De Kooning,” “Pollock,” etc. Seems like a surviving tinge of chauvinism.
Where are triangles in nature? In mountains, in the shape of ears of various animals, in the beaks of birds, the empty space between 2 legs and the ground when moving. The strength of a triangle is not consciously shown to us but enters our subconscious as all images of perfection does.
Think I'm going to have to re-watch this one, not entirely clear on how to draw a basic grid and put a mark in each one. All I can say I wow the things people appreciate as art stuns me beyond belief
ive got a bit of a love hate relationship with abstract art and i do admire martins work. that being said it just looks like a fucking lined notebook with dots....but i kinda like it
Thanks for the quick tutorial! Couldn't you fix the pencil w/a light coat (or 2) of spray fixative, then do 1 or 2 isolation coats, then the final varnish? Love Agnes Martin's work . . .

Just wondering how you would preserve a canvas like that? Would you varnish it with a couple of layers of gloss acrylic varnish then a layer of matt varnish. Would you have to use an isolation layer? etc.
Let's get a how to paint like Rembrandt!
i second that. heck i'd settle for lesser masters like dali. i mean no hate, i just want a "paint like.." about dead old masters
no, that takes talent.
+hifijohn
i'd like to think that if given the chance, this guy can show that he's talented
painting like the masters is a million levels beyond this 2nd grade style painting.
+hifijohn
you're only seeing him copy famous contemporary artists. of course it doesn't look like it requires a great deal of skill and talent. it doesn't mean he doesn't have talent or skill.
Cory you are an insightful amazing teacher.

I want more videos from you
Well you kinda need steady hand and that's all. I would use those as an decoration. Not provocating to see, but still kinda pleasure to see them.
Traducción al español sería genial
This was such a nice video! Really enjoyed it.
Just like a cookery demonstration.
Think I'm going to have to re-watch this one, not entirely clear on how to draw a basic grid and put a mark in each one. All I can say I wow the things people appreciate as art stuns me beyond belief
hills or mountains are triangular, and even some rocks.
ive got a bit of a love hate relationship with abstract art and i do admire martins work. that being said it just looks like a fucking lined notebook with dots....but i kinda like it
i just spent 20 minutes on.. when aint gonna lie. i think like i could paint things like this.
Thanks for the quick tutorial! Couldn't you fix the pencil w/a light coat (or 2) of spray fixative, then do 1 or 2 isolation coats, then the final varnish?
Love Agnes Martin's work . . .
Great series but we don't make "errors" we make human variations! It is the definition of hand made!
I would be so triggered by these 2 or 3 wider lanes. They really are the center of attention.
Please a Velasquez how to
